It’ll sort itself out automatically (assuming you install W7 by booting from a DVD onto its own separate partition).

hey bago, you don't need to drop a whole new post just because you messed up a typo. there's an "Edit" button right there for a reason.

Everything is running smooth on my end, except I’m hitting a massive wall with DC++. I can't figure out how to get all the ports to open automatically. It technically works, but man, it’s dragging—it downloads at half the speed it used to back when I was running Windows XP. It’s super rare that I actually manage to grab files from multiple users at once. If anyone has a fix, thanks in advance. I'm on version 7057. Everything else is working perfectly.

Why on earth don't you have the aero effect enabled?

I think I read somewhere online that the final version was 6.1.7072.0.winmain.090327-1845 🤔

Joseph Robinson53 said:Hey guys, I'm thinking about installing Windows 7, but I'd love to keep my current setup on its own partition... is it actually doable to run both and just have a boot menu pop up when I start the machine?

Sure, you can definitely do that, but honestly, I wouldn't recommend it if you're running anything less than a high-end rig... it's just going to be a headache...

Larry Ortiz24 said:Sure, it's possible, though I wouldn't recommend it if you're running on lower-end hardware.

If multiple versions can run, then I guess Windows 7 should be fine on that machine too...☕

Even if you run them separately, either way he’s going to see a performance hit because those two operating systems are just too heavy... whether that slowdown is subtle enough to ignore or a total system crawl really just comes down to whatever kind of rig he's running...

Larry Ortiz24 said:Even if they aren't running at once, having both installed will probably slow things down since those are two pretty heavy operating systems. I guess whether the lag is noticeable or not just depends on how powerful his rig is.

He doesn't necessarily have to run both operating systems simultaneously...🤣

It can be run on a virtual PC, lol.

How could you even possibly know that... I mean, you’ve never actually run two systems side-by-side, nor have you seen it happen anywhere else, right...

I haven't seen that myself... maybe show me where you've got two operating systems running simultaneously on a single PC...🤷 (and I'm not talking about virtual machines, VMware, or anything like that)

Back when I was making the jump from 98 to Windows XP, the installer actually gave you the option, and when you booted up the machine, it would prompt you to choose which OS you wanted to boot into, which for me meant choosing between
Windows 98
Windows XP
You just click the one you want and it works perfectly fine... honestly, this was common practice for millions of people back when Vista rolled out and they installed it but decided to keep their old XP setup alongside it...

You just click the one you want. It’s pretty standard stuff. I guess plenty of people did that back when Vista launched—they'd install Vista but just stick with XP.

Yeah, I'm aware you can have two operating systems installed... I thought you meant running them both at once, like booting into two different systems simultaneously to work in them at the same time...😳

I guess there was just a bit of a misunderstanding😂😂

You click whatever you want and it just reads like anything else. I guess it’s just code that worked fine for millions of people back when Vista first dropped, and they just upgraded to Vista and left their XP systems running.

Alright, explain this statement again:

Maybe he won't notice if it slows down just a tiny bit, but that really depends on how powerful the computer is..

How exactly are two operating systems in a dual boot setup supposed to slow down a computer? I don't see how that works. 🙂 Come on, spill it. Give me the inside scoop. 🙂

The only thing that's going to happen is you'll lose more disk space. You can only load one OS into RAM at a time, so while one version of Windows is running, the other is just sitting on the drive, not touching the processor or the RAM. But hey, maybe you know something I don't. 😉
