Maybe it's just me, but Windows 7 definitely feels more solid than Vista and isn't quite as heavy on resources... though I still think even Windows 7 might be too much for something like an old Dell Latitude or whatever. For those machines, Windows XP is probably still king. I don't know, just my take. I haven't tried putting Windows 7 on an old PC yet, and I probably won't anytime soon. Maybe when a reinstall becomes absolutely necessary.

I’m running Windows 7 build 7000—turned off auto-updates and don't have any extra software pulling updates (besides Norton, but I killed those updates too). I've got a feeling it's tied to the activation status, but honestly, I just don't want to activate it. Anyone know how to make it stop?

Why wouldn't you just activate it? You can still grab a beta key through official Microsoft sites even today.

So, I was wondering, how long does that beta key actually stay valid? I just used it to activate version 7054...

If you ask me... almost (I said, *almost*) every single person who just hopped on here for Windows 7 is gonna turn into a abuser the second they actually see a legitimate retail copy out in the wild

Come on then, let's see how many of you are actually ready to shell out for a legal copy when the time finally comes

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting this weirdly deep, sort of muffled sound whenever they're just browsing the web or clicking through files? It’s like, instead of that usual crisp little click you'd expect, I'm hearing this strange, low-end thudding noise, at least on my end... maybe it's just my hardware acting up, I don't know.

Let's see how many of you actually intend to buy a legal license when the time comes.

This might be the first version of Windows where it actually feels worth the money. I'm guessing we'll see a much higher rate of licensed versions compared to any previous release.

I have my doubts, though... Honestly, I suspect the older crowd is just going to cling to XP forever, and the younger generation probably won't have the extra cash lying around anyway. I’m really not sure what the price tag is going to look like, but if it turns out to be a total headache like Vista did back in $667, I’d much rather put that money toward a new GPU or something else useful. Let's face it: once Windows 7 officially hits the shelves, everyone is just going to head straight to a torrent site and grab it for free.

Come back to me once you experience this on Vista.

Take a look at that red circle. When Vista starts eating up 3% of my CPU just sitting there, I'm going to lose it.

At this point, there's really nothing left to debate regarding the differences between Vista and Windows 7.👍👍

You can come talk to me once you experience this kind of thing on Vista.

Just take a look at that red circle; I mean, when Vista starts hogging 3% of the CPU just sitting there, I’m ready to throw my hands up in frustration!

At this point, there really isn't much left to debate regarding the performance gap between Vista and Windows 7.👍👍

If you ask me...
memory management is the bigger issue here. Back in the day, Vista would just absolutely devour all your RAM. Of course, Windows 7 isn't perfect either—it can still hit that 100% usage wall if the processor gets overwhelmed.

Paul Moore20...

Don't even start...
Read this thread from the very first post through to the most recent one before you decide to chime in...
I know exactly why I made that post, and the veterans over at Google and the rest of the old guard know it too.

No hard feelings!!!
But can we do that??
If you actually understood the context here, you’d take the time to read everything properly instead of rushing out half-baked replies...

Seriously, man...
Just take a second to scroll back through this thread starting from the very first post.......... once you've actually caught up, then feel free to jump in......
I know exactly why I put this post together in the first place, and it’s things like Google and the rest of the old-school tech veterans already understand perfectly.

No hard feelings whatsoever!!!
Can we just agree on that??
If you truly understood the core of what's happening here, you'd make the effort to read everything thoroughly, so let's not rush into posting before you're fully up to speed.....

Hey, no offense intended . . . but if you think that simply reading through posts . . . is going to magically make me hear weird noises every time I open a window . . . or suddenly make me change my mind about taking a beta key . . . then you might be missing the point of what we're actually discussing . . . fair enough . . . xD

Paul Moore20...
forget all that noise you're making about sounds and whatever else...
people might think I’m just venting here, but I know exactly what I’m doing and why I’m saying it.

As for those specific audio issues you're bringing up, we already covered that in a different thread...

To put it simply... Noah Miller6 is essentially acting as a beta tester for Windows 7. Through daily use, he gets his hands on updates that the "average" user—the ones downloading a cracked version of 7 from a torrent site—never even sees. Trust me on this one.

look, let’s just move past that whole thing about hearing certain sounds or whatever...
I know people might think I'm just being difficult here, but I actually have a very clear idea of what I'm talking about and why I'm bringing this up...

We already went down the rabbit hole regarding those specific audio issues in a completely different thread...

To put it simply... Noah Miller6 is essentially acting as a beta tester for Windows 7. He's using the OS daily and getting all those official updates that your typical user—the ones grabbing a version off a random torrent site—never even sees, trust me on that one...

Are you talking about updates like these? . .

For what it's worth, I'm running Beta 7000 of Windows 7, which I "illegally" grabbed from a torrent site... even though Microsoft actually had the beta versions available right on their own website.

Hey Noah Miller6, how on earth are you getting updates on your version of Windows 7 when my copy—which I grabbed from a torrent but is totally legit and activated—isn't seeing anything at all?

EDIT:

So, I was wondering, does Windows Media Player on your Windows 7 act like this when you try to play MPEG files?

image

Does anyone know how I might be able to fix this?

Well, I lived through it. Here I am. How exactly do you plan on doing that? Pills? Carbon monoxide in the garage? Seppuku?

Well, I survived, so here I am. But how exactly do you plan on pulling this off? Overdosing on pills? Carbon monoxide in the garage? Suicide?

🤣 You showed him, but surely everyone knows how to hit "print screen" when the computer is idling nowadays.
just one more 👍
