Windows 7

I’m thinking about dropping Build 7100 onto my machine—any major bugs I should be worried about, or is this thing basically solid at this point? Also, quick question—do I actually need to have Windows 7 beta sitting there first to make the jump, or can I just go straight to Build 7100?

Where’s the easiest place to grab this? Is it up on RapidShare? Also, I can't quite wrap my head around the timeline—I'm struggling to find the right term here... basically, how long will we still be getting Windows updates if we're running these "black" versions?

So, starting yesterday, anyone with access to TechNet or MSDN can grab the Windows 7 RC. Everyone else? You’ve gotta wait four days—until May 5th. Just head over to Microsoft.com and you're good to go.

Yeah, I mean—it’s pretty obvious that the folks over at Microsoft are basically running two separate teams on this one.
So, I've got one running on the RC and the other on the RTM at the same time.
So, just to say—and I’m totally just rambling here—if we were to say Build 7100 was basically the same thing as, I don't know, 7077... I mean, those numbers are just totally made up, obviously, this isn't actually how things stand, but you get what I'm getting at, right?

darkviper7 said:Yeah. I guess because Microsoft runs two separate teams simultaneously.
One group handles the RC while another works on the RTM at the same time.
So, just as an example—not that I'm certain—Build 7100 might be roughly equivalent to something like 7077.
But then again, 7077 leaked about a month ago.

Yeah, true enough.
Honestly, I just downloaded whatever the latest available build was—no point stressing over which specific version is technically newer out there—because, in my experience, the RC (Build 7100) runs pretty smoothly.
Besides, word is SP2 might be coming out soon anyway, so you might as well just settle in with this one and count down the days until next week.
Fall will be here before we know it, and then it’ll be the end of the year and Windows 7 will be officially out.
And then, well... we'll all probably head down to the local flea markets to hunt for our own copies xD
Btw, has anyone heard any rumors about what kind of security they're actually going to bake into Windows 7?

Generally speaking, people are looking for those 70xx builds, not the 71xx ones. Maybe try doing a little Google search before posting nonsense like our friend Thomas Hernandez21 did 😉

hahahahah LOLOL.. I mean, ROFLMAO, I honestly can't stop laughing at everything I just read here! Just pure, unadulterated nonsense.
The idea that 7077 is newer than 7106 is actually true, mostly because 7106 is just some random guy's repackage where he took build 7068 and renamed it to 7106, so that specific 7106 build from Microsoft doesn't even exist. It never did, and it never will.
7100 is the absolute latest build that leaked about ten days ago, and I've had my hands on it for a week now!! And if you want to know how the builds actually rolled out while I was testing them, it went like this:
6801, 6956, 7000, 7003, 7004, 7012, 7015, 7016, 7025, 7048, 7057, 7068, 7077, 7100
The next build, specifically the one hitting the Microsoft.com pages in three days—on the 5th—is gonna be labeled 7115!!

I’ll leave open the possibility that I said something stupid, but I don't think I did. Before, I probably would have just told you your post was nonsense because it lacked any logic whatsoever, you know? Software development. It’s a process, I guess. People talk about it like there's some grand, seamless flow, but it's usually just a series of controlled fires. You start with an idea, move into planning, then coding, testing, and deployment. Most people think it's just typing away at a keyboard, but that's probably only half the battle. There's a lot of moving parts and a lot of ways for things to go sideways. Maybe it works out, maybe it doesn't. That's just how it goes..
The 7077 leak from April. 8th, 2009:
There’s some news floating around about a possible leak involving Build 7100. I guess we'll see if there's any actual substance to it or if it's just more noise. It's hard to tell these days. Maybe it's worth watching, maybe not. We'll find out soon enough.
So, Build 7100 leaked a few days ago...
Just look at the build numbers. The difference between something like 7077 and Build 7100 is pretty obvious.
7077.0.090404 April 4, 2009.
7100.0.090421 April 21, 2009.
I don't think there's any point in arguing about this... unless you're looking at the calendar backward, 7077 can't be newer. 🙂

Can I actually run the games I'm playing right now on XP—like, say, PES 2009, Mirror's Edge, BioShock, and so on—on the Windows 7 RC? And more importantly, am I going to notice any real difference in terms of performance or overall quality?
#835 ·
And just so you know, simply booting up Windows 7 demands higher performance, which leaves less headroom for gaming during actual use.
I suppose if you have a high-end rig, everything should be fine.

So, I am currently in the process of preparing to rebuild my PC. It’ll be running an ATI Radeon HD 4870 with 1GB of VRAM, 2GB of RAM, and an Intel Core 2 duo e8500. Hopefully, that configuration should suffice for high settings...

Man, what's the rush? It’s not out yet... maybe try actually reading some of the threads before you go firing off your own questions...
