I just got my broadband set up and had Windows 7 Ultimate installed. My PC used to be lightning fast before this, but now it takes forever just to open anything. A friend told me my Intel 3.5, 2.2GHz motherboard is too weak and that the broadband connection is choking it out. Is that actually true?😕

Both you and your friend should probably just give up...☕ this isn't your kind of thing...☕ saying broadband chokes a CPU... wtf??? 😕 😂🤣

I don't get why people install an RC version of an OS on their main rig... or maybe in your case, it's just a beta... when you clearly don't know anything about computers and aren't even basic users, let alone advanced enough to be testing stuff.🙏

I’m running into a wall trying to install Windows 7, specifically the RC x64 version I grabbed yesterday. Everything seems fine at first—the installer pulls the files without a hitch—but then it hits this specific image, hangs for a moment like it's actually thinking, and then... nothing. Just total silence.

My hardware is fully compatible, and I pulled the ISO straight from the official site, so there shouldn't be any shady files involved. I'm just staring at a frozen screen, completely stumped.

My next move is to grab the x32 version and see if that actually goes through, but if anyone has a clue what might be causing this stall, please chime in.

My hardware should be compatible, and I grabbed it from the official sites... I guess I don't know what the issue is.

I might try downloading and installing x32 instead, but if anyone has any thoughts, feel free to chime in.

Does it throw an error? What kind of image shows up? Maybe you didn't burn the DVD correctly... maybe try burning it at a slower speed.

There isn’t actually an error occurring; everything is running exactly as intended, even if it feels stuck.
The issue is that the pleasant wallpaper they put there to give you a break while the OS installs just sits there staring back at you, and absolutely nothing happens.

But then you get that fancy little wallpaper they put in there—you know, the one meant to give your eyes a break while the OS installs—and it just sits there staring at you doing absolutely nothing.

I honestly think it's actually installing, man. Just look at the bottom. There’s that little progress bar slowly crawling along. That's what happens on my machine too; it looks like nothing is happening, but that line is moving bit by bit. It stays like that for maybe 10 minutes, maybe even longer, while the installation is grinding away in the background....

Thanks, Drew Garcia. I'll go hunting for that specific line, haha!
And you, Thomas Hernandez21, stop talking nonsense. I just finished downloading them and I'm putting them through the wringer right now!

I guess Thomas Hernandez21 is right...😁 x32 doesn't exist...☕ There's only x86 and x64 😍

I was actually referring to both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions—since, after all, they both exist.

Why on earth are you installing an operating system's Beta version on your machine? Or, in your case, likely just some unstable Beta... especially when you clearly have no clue how computers work. You aren't even casual users, let alone power users capable of testing anything.🙏

nobie.....
If it weren't for people like us doing the actual testing (thank God I actually enjoy it), you wouldn't end up with an OS that functions properly.
So, quit talking nonsense in the comments.
Have you even tried working on Windows 10? Have you even installed it? If you had, maybe you could write posts that actually make sense.
Do you even know what Beta means?
Beta means that if no more bugs are found, that specific build becomes the Final version....
Ever heard of a Beta or a Beta 2?

Come on, don't be an idiot!

Come on, quit the crap!

Don't start yelling right away..... ☕ You misunderstood me. I don't have anything against the QA Department... it's just people who barely know how to turn on a computer, yet they install a Beta OS and then complain about everything being broken...

I installed Windows 10 and I'm pretty happy with it.... it's my primary system now... (though maybe that isn't smart)... I haven't put the Beta on yet, but I probably will today...

By the way, I read somewhere that the Beta has issues with drives and drivers... I wonder if that's true? 🤔

By the way, I was reading somewhere that RC is having issues with disks and drivers... is there any truth to that?🤔

From what I’ve seen in my own workflow, there haven't been any noticeable issues, so 👍👍

Look, I’m not claiming to be an expert—that’s exactly why I’m asking for help from someone who actually knows their stuff—but clearly, you haven't got the fix for this either. Anyway, I've got 3 GB of RAM, which I figure is plenty for what I need, and my download speeds are fine... it's just that programs take forever to open. No viruses, though—already ran a scan.

Maybe the answer you need was in the previous post:

Who knows. Maybe that's it. We might just have to wait for the final version. Depends on the drive, though; maybe it just defaulted to PIO mode.

It feels like I’ve stumbled into a convention of absolute amateurs here. Honestly, I’d tell the moderator to just rename this whole thread to "The Daily Nonsense of Self-Proclaimed Experts."

everyone here thinks they're such an expert until someone actually has a real issue—if I could fix things myself, I wouldn't be bothering you all, but apparently, this forum isn't really for solving anything anyway... thanks for nothing, I guess

Is it possible to upgrade between different builds? For instance, if I install 7100, can I then move up to RC, and from there to RC 2, etc.? Or am I looking at a mandatory clean installation every single time?

I actually just picked up a new rig today—I still need to find some downtime to get everything assembled—and my plan is to install Windows 7. I’ve been eyeing this since I read an article on YouTube about two months ago claiming the betas were practically as stable as the final release. Apparently, everything works great, aside from maybe two or three major bugs involving media files or something like Winamp, which isn't a huge deal for me personally.

I primarily use this PC for work, and frankly, I don't have the patience to run a clean installation constantly—I usually stick with the same version of Windows for years at a time. That's why I'm specifically asking about the upgrade path. If I install the RC version now, will I be able to simply upgrade to the final version once it officially launches?

Thanks for the help!

PS: I know, I know—some of you might want to suggest that I shouldn't be touching beta OS versions if I rely on my computer for work, but my current gut feeling is that it'll be stable enough for me to pull the trigger.
PPS: Which version would you suggest I download right now (I have a 64-bit processor), and where can I grab it? (A link would be awesome if anyone has one).
