Go read the rulebook.

Can someone please just drop a link to that rule?☕

do you actually get the difference:

missing the car ahead right after the chicane—that means you're just staring at his bumper

and

driving side-by-side after the chicane toward the next turn... so you passed me because you hit a better line

stormybadger8 said:I honestly don’t get it, and you can kill me for saying it, but is there actually a rule that says you have to let him pass if you cut a corner? Like, did Lewis Hamilton fail to yield to Kimi Räikkönen? Does the rulebook specifically state he has to give him space at one meter, a hundred meters, or a full kilometer?☕

this penalty is just plain moronic☕

He’s supposed to let him through at whatever distance they were at before the launch, which is exactly what Hamilton failed to do.

I don't even know what to tell you guys; look, I’m a huge Ferrari fan, but maybe a two-place penalty would have been more reasonable.

My only real regret is why Kimi didn't just charge right into him and knock him off the track—honestly, seeing how slippery and passive he was... did you see that part of the race during the press conference where he was just sitting there laughing?🤷

Daniel Cooper40 said:Yeah, and that same "max" snatched the title from Schumacher by hitting him with a penalty during qualifying at Monte Carlo...

It’s not even about who gets hit or when. The point is that these penalties and rules are just idiotic.

Using a crane to pull Hamilton out? Idiotic.
Stewards pushing Hamilton's car? Idiotic.
Today's penalty? Idiotic.
Alonso's penalty after the Canadian GP last year? Idiotic.

placidsurfer9 said:but where does it actually say there's a rule against cutting the chicane and overtaking
the driver ahead of you

Of course there isn't a specific rule written down for that exact scenario. ☕
It falls under gaining an unfair advantage. He gained that edge by cutting the chicane, which put him ahead of Räikkönen despite having a worse start. I'm pretty sure the whole debate was just about whether
Hamilton actually let Räikkönen through or if he was simply slower. Personally, I think Hamilton was just slower because of his entry line, and didn't actually yield the position.

Total corruption... was it when that dark-clad driver ended up in the gravel last year, or when he kept messing up during that last race? I mean, maybe the officials had a hand in that too?

Who can really blame him? He probably should have just played it cool through that second turn and tried again later, but... yeah, he got what he deserved.

And why didn't Ferrari get hit with stuff like that? Is it because they aren't run by idiots who don't know the rules? Or does it happen to them too... like when Massa went through a red light (if we follow the theory that everything is rigged, I guess Massa would've gotten away with it)? And let's not forget Schumacher parking his car... these things are just like in football—the ref makes a call and that's that. A lot of times, you could argue it either way and still justify your side... I guess that's just how sports works.

My only regret? Why didn't Kimi just dive in and knock him right off the track? He was being so slippery. Did you see that part of the race he mentioned during the press conference? The way he was just laughing... 🤷

🤣🤣🤣 Honestly, if nothing else, this makes me happy. Maxym got a 3-day ban. 🤣🤣🤣

Welcome back, Maniac. 👍

And even if you think FIA doesn't care about Hamilton... honestly, guys, I don't think there's anything the FIA would love more than seeing Hamilton clinch that title. A Black champion, on top of being British? That would be like hitting a hundred consecutive jackpots in the Powerball....

Saw a few examples like that today. In every case, the guy cutting in missed whoever was right in front of him... doesn't Hamilton have to do that too?

Look, the FIA lives for drama. That's the whole point. No matter how much I personally couldn't stand Michael Schumacher, they screwed him and Ferrari over with endless rule changes and total nonsense just to keep things interesting. This stuff with Lewis Hamilton is the exact same playbook for the exact same reason. 🙂

I'm just sitting here waiting for the day they decide to ban everyone from using Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, or BMW engines altogether. 😵

The FIA would definitely pick an Englishman for champion

It’d be huge for that market

Isn't Max basically British anyway?!!!

As soon as Lewis moved behind Kimi to try and grab a better line—which is true, he did—Kimi is still ahead and holds the advantage... Lewis could have taken that same line too... now everyone's blaming Lewis because he tried to dive inside with late braking... but honestly, Lewis was just shadowing Kimi as closely as he was during that side-by-side mess in the chicane... he was faster... if he'd just let Kimi go right after the chicane, he would've been right on his tail anyway...

That’s a massive win for that market.

Wait, is Max an Englishman or something?!!!

Allegedly, Max is a Nazi.🙄And honestly, who knows? Maybe he isn't even an Englishman. We might need a DNA test to settle that one.☕

You're digging your own grave here

He should've made the move immediately. Doesn't matter if he would've overtaken him later or not

The whole issue is that he didn't let him through right then

You basically answered your own point

How exactly would a DNA analysis prove he isn't an Englishman?

They'll probably end up making a rule where you can't have more than a five-point lead... like, imagine you win ten races in a row, but since you've got a five-point advantage, none of those wins actually count toward your total. 😁

I'm pretty sure that whole bit—whether Lewis Hamilton actually let Kimi through or was just slower—was the only thing people were arguing about.
Personally, I think Hamilton was just slower because of his entry line, so he didn't actually let Kimi past.

Lewis wasn't floorin' it; he just let Kimi slide by so he wouldn't catch a penalty... it's obvious.. he didn't pull over suddenly because he didn't want to lose momentum, but Kimi ended up in front and he basically did his job. 🤷

Sam Roberts said:we saw a few examples of that today, and every single time, the guy cutting the chicane missed the car ahead of him. doesn't Hamilton have to do the same thing??

And did Kimi Räikkönen have to mess up and jerk his car left and right?🙄 In my book, that’s the actual reason Hamilton passed him, not some imaginary "extra speed" gained from cutting the chicane.🙄

Bottom line, I'm done arguing with you. Even if it were Sebastian Vettel instead of Mass and he grabbed his first win that way, I'd still say this whole thing is nonsense.☕
