Just one more thing... everything's done and the person got their package.
Will the mailman bring the cash right to my door, or am I gonna have to swing by the post office?
I got that yellow and black receipt slip...

The mail carrier should bring you the money if you're home, usually takes about 2-3 days...

Package was delivered Thursday, still haven't seen the cash hit my account... since it's the weekend now, I guess I'll probably see it Monday? ๐Ÿค”

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well
I'm looking into shipping a pretty beefy packageโ€”it's some kind of exercise equipment weighing about 90 poundsโ€”from one side of the US to the other. I'm feeling a bit stuck on which carrier to go with, especially since I'm going to need a heavy-duty, oversized cardboard box to keep the whole thing from falling apart mid-transit. What would you guys recommend for something this bulky? Thanks in advance ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey, quick question about mail.
How long does it usually take for a payment sent via USPS to actually show up in a JPMorgan Chase account?

Is it even possible for it to take a full week or more?

Is there any way to actually block a cash-on-delivery payment once it's been sent? We paid for something today and, unfortunately, got totally scammed...
The sender has already been reported for fraud, and we have the police report and all the necessary details ready to go. Someone at the local FedEx office mentioned they need to wait for some official word from the police before they can do anything.

Alright, look... if youโ€™ve been hit by one of those COD scams, there are a few critical steps you can take to try and mitigate the damage.

1) Call the main customer service line immediately to request a freeze on the payout to the perpetrator... you generally have about a 48-hour window before the money changes hands.
2) Head down to the local police station and file an official fraud report (there might be a small fee for the $6.75 paperwork).... itโ€™s highly recommended that you ask them to include a specific request for the postal service to halt the disbursement to the suspect, though it's not strictly mandatory.
3) Go to your nearest post office branch and insist on filing an irregularity report for the shipment; once you have that, along with the police report, the postal staff should be able to fax everything over to their central processing hub.
4) The claims department is then supposed to send a formal notice to the sender's local post office to intercept the payment slip and have it returned to the central office in Washington, D.C. (at least, that's how it worked in my case).
5) Don't just assume it happenedโ€”follow up personally with that local post office to confirm they actually received the intercept order.

Can't catch up on all the posts right now, got a quick question...
So, I want to ship a package via USPSโ€”not FedExโ€”and I need to make sure the recipient pays both the item value and the shipping cost. The lady at the post office told me that since my package is under 2kg, it'll be $6.00 for pickup (or $20 for home delivery), plus $2.50 for the COD amount, and then some extra $3.00 on top of that (what even is that??)
Iโ€™m totally lostโ€”what am I actually supposed to write as the value on the box?
For example, my stuff is worth $17. Do I just write $17 on the label, or should it be 50+18(or 20)+7.14... basically $26 so I get the shipping covered immediately, or what??
Ugh, it's my first time doing this and I am completely clueless...
help pleeease

Can someone please help me understand why on earth it takes nine whole days for a simple envelope to travel from Washington, D.C. to San Diego, and like, how is that even physically possible? I mean, I honestly think if we had just carried it there on foot ourselves, it probably would have arrived way faster than this.

Hey everyone, I was wonderingโ€”if I send something via certified mail, does the whole thing just come down to my own sense of trust? Like, am I basically just crossing my fingers and hoping the recipient actually pays up what they owe me once they get the package, or does the USPS offer some kind of actual guarantee or protection for the sender?

Also, if I decide to go with cash on delivery instead, is the shipping cost going to be higher than it would be for a standard certified shipment?

Also, if I go the COD route, is the shipping going to run me more than just sending it certified?

Thatโ€™s pretty much it. If you're just doing certified mail, the standard practice is usually that the buyer transfers the cash to the seller's account first. For small stuff under 50 grams, the cost for a certified letter is about $3.25, but if you're shipping through a major carrier like FedEx, it'll be around 16.90+ (and on top of that, the recipient has to cover an extra $3.00)

Well, the USPS completely botched my shipment. I sent out a package specifying that the recipient should pay $6.75 plus the shipping fee (meaning the total amount should be billed together), but instead, this elderly clerk charged $40 plus shipping! Since the lady hasn't responded and I don't have her account number to issue a refund, I am looking for more details regarding this http://www.fedex.com/en-us/shipping/services/money-transfer.html service so I can send the funds to that address.

Quick question about shipping a small package, maybe around a pound or so. I'm doing cash on delivery, and the item's value is $17. Should I just list the value as $17 and let the buyer cover the shipping, or should I put 50 plus shipping (since we already agreed they're paying)?
Also, what's the deal with boxes? Are there any specific rules I should know about? I tried searching the forum, but the search function is being pretty useless lately.

You should list it as 50 + shipping.๐Ÿ˜‰

There aren't really any strict rules about the boxes themselves, just make sure you pack everything up securely.

Hey everyone. Iโ€™m thinking about sending a certified letter, specifically one where I include some cash inside something else... so, I guess I'm wondering if a clerk could just open the envelope without my permission? And if they did, would I end up running into any legal trouble because of that?

Thanks.

Look, you absolutely CANNOT send cash in regular mail!!! If you're trying to move money through the mail, you should probably look into sending it as a registered valuable document instead.

Just a quick question for anyone who uses The New York Times for their shipping needs. Is it normal for the lady at the newsstand to tell you sheโ€™ll wrap up the package later once the shipment arrives later today ๐Ÿ˜•(instead of just doing it right then and there)?
