If you're sending a package weighing under 11 pounds with a value around $12β€”meaning you'll be filling out $27β€”just grab the white shipping form (they have a specific one for certified mail), check the box for standard parcel, and drop it off in a different city from where you live. Does that sound simple enough? $4.75.

rapidtrucker13 said:It’s just a standard package. Mne was told by a female clerk today that they raised the prices, so now it's $5.75. I paid $1.25 for the envelope, whereas it used to be 2.60
.

Their website is still showing the old pricing.
There's nothing unusual about these packages πŸ™‚

ugh, I don't even know, I paid way too much today... whatever... Sandra Brooks91 is stressing me out because I didn't list the value of my package. I've sent stuff as a regular package countless times before, but this time I totally blanked on writing down the value. What happens if they lose it or something? Like, there's zero chance of getting my money back...

They definitely entered a value in there... they have to put something down. Most likely they just plugged in $33. Don't sweat it πŸ™‚

I've got that receipt right here and it just shows the tracking number. It doesn't list the value at all, and I didn't write the value on the package itself either. Ugh, fingers crossed she gets the package okay so there isn't any drama with it. TnxπŸ™‚

aha okay. but all I see in the post is that white envelope meant for certified mail. what am I supposed to ask about for a package? or, like, what does one actually look like?

It looks like they have the exact same thingβ€”there’s an option for a package. You can find them at the shipping counters. Just keep in mind that some post offices don't even handle packages at all.

Here’s how it looks:

image

You're listed as the senderβ€”Mate Smithβ€”and the recipient is whoever you're sending it to, like John Smith. In the top right corner, just circle PACKAGE, then write in the value $23 (postage $14.40) or $33 (postage $5.00)

That's it.

Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere. Can someone walk me through how sending money via the post office works when I only have a name and a home address? What kind of fees am I looking at for an amount of $72, and what's the best way to avoid messing this up? Thanks!🀷

Whenever I head down to the local FedEx Office to drop off a payment using a standard money order, the service fee usually ends up being $1.75. Did you actually get the account number yet? If not, you’ll probably have to deal with a postal money order instead, which means the funds get sent directly to their home address... Honestly, I'm not even sure which method you're talking about here...

Thanks, guys. I probably don't even have that option in my mail settingsβ€”they didn't offer it to me when I sent my first one. The slip is basically the same thing you'd use for certified mail, or at least super similar

Yeah, if it's going to a residential address 😒 there's no way I'm risking getting ripped off... πŸ™‚

...so I was sending some shoes to a lady from the forum today and the clerk at the USPS told me they didn't count as a standard envelope. Apparently, I had to use one of those big padded mailers with the dimensions listed so it gets processed as a package instead, which actually ends up being cheaper... the total came out to $14.40

and honestly, I've had such a bad experience with the post office latelyβ€”another member here had her item arrive with a note saying it was accepted as damaged right at the local branch! I mean, who even is the crazy one here? I know for a fact I handed over the goods perfectly wrapped and secured, because there's no way they would have even taken it if it wasn't packed properly. What happened while it was in transit, though... who knows... all I know is it clearly took some bizarre detour, even though it was only traveling about 40 miles between two nearby cities..ugh!

Apparently, if you classify it that way, it gets treated as a package, which actually ends up being cheaper. The total came out to $14.40.

I don't see why she needs to say anything to you. Just pack everything up in a box at home. You don't have to tell her what's inside; just fill out the paperwork and be done with it. $27Just pay her the $14.40 and call it a day. It’s done.

Don't go showing people exactly what you're sending!

Stop showing people what you're shipping in the post office!

The absolute best part was when she claimed she didn't even have any boxes available!!! Like, excuse me, she's too small to help, yet there isn't a single person there who actually knows how to be decent... it's unbelievable!!! Just typical for the USPS and how totally ill-equipped their branches are..

Can someone please explain why I’m getting hit with extra charges every single time the mail carrier drops off a $1.75 package or an envelope? Like, I always pay my postage upfront and cover all the shipping costs, so where is this extra $1.75 coming from?? hmh

Yeah, I ended up paying today too, though I honestly can't figure out why... It feels like they ask for it one day and then just forget about it the next.

Hey everyone, could someone shoot me a DM or just drop a comment here about sending a package COD? I tried doing this once ages ago, but honestly, my memory is totally shot and I can't quite remember how the whole process works... thanks! πŸ™‚
Specifically, I was wondering if there's any way to actually insure a package when I'm shipping it collect on delivery. Like, if the carrier loses it or if it gets banged up during transit, am I covered? And if so, do I need to fill out some extra paperwork or anything like that?

Those $1.75 charges apply when a FedEx or UPS driver pulls up in a van to deliver your package. If your local USPS carrier brings it, you aren't paying anything extra, but if it's one of those private delivery vans, you're always going to be out $1.75 if you're home to receive it. πŸ™‚

And you should definitely be getting a receipt showing you paid that $1.75 πŸ™‚
.
It has absolutely nothing to do with who sent the item. πŸ™‚

Question:
My package never showed up. The girl who sent it filed a claim, and turns out the shipment didn't even make it to my cityβ€”it just vanished somewhere in transit.
It’s been about 12 days since I checked in with her, and she mentioned she was waiting on a refund sent directly to her address.
I haven't heard a peep from her since. How many days does it usually take for an insurance payout to actually hit?
And how does the money get split up between the seller and the buyer?
I was kind of thinking maybe we could just split it down the middle, but I have no clue what you guys have dealt with before.
Thanks
