I mentioned this in a few posts earlier—two of my recommended items just vanished into thin air (one was even wrapped like a package), and then a third one showed up a couple of days later... honestly, people are stealing like there's no tomorrow!

Aina Mo, don't you dare send it via standard mail!!! I sent an envelope that way exactly once and it never arrived—not even a trace. I made sure everything was sealed perfectly... but seriously... never again with standard mail!!!😳

Just a quick question about the post offices in Washington, D.C....

I need to ship a package, and I was wondering if I have to go specifically to the one near Grand Central Terminal, or if there are other post offices around the city that handle this kind of thing?

Just wanted to ask—since I've been waiting on my package for over a week now, what’s the typical turnaround time for delivery around here?

I can't recall exactly how long mine took, but if it doesn't show up in a couple of days, you might want to just walk over to the local Post Office and check if they have anything sitting there for you...

The package arrived from Canada in a 30x30 box, marked as a gift to try and dodge customs, but I’m heading out today to check the status—though I highly doubt I'll be paying $60 just for the shipping and handling fees alone. It's practically costing as much as the items themselves! ☕🤷

Just because someone writes "gift" on the label doesn't mean the authorities actually believe you. 😉
Customs officers have every right to decide for themselves if a package is truly a gift; they'll estimate the value themselves and then hit you with the full brunt of import duties and sales tax. 😉

I've been scrolling through this thread, and I haven't seen anyone bring up this specific "issue" before.😁

I’m looking to mail something to North Mexico. It weighs less than half a pound, so it should go out as a standard lightweight letter in one of those yellow bubble mailers. According to the USPS calculator, the whole thing—including tax—comes out to $22, which isn't bad at all.

My main worry, though, is that the person receiving it might get hit with some random customs fee or whatever nonsense they decide to charge. If that happens, I’d feel like a total jerk.😠

Has anyone actually dealt with this before?

By the way, I'm definitely not sending it via a Greyhound bus; that's basically just playing the lottery.😂

My main hesitation is the recipient. I’m worried they might get hit with unexpected customs fees or some other random charge upon delivery. If that happens, I’d honestly feel terrible about it. 😠

Has anyone here dealt with this before?

Just tuck a note inside, like a birthday wish or something similar; that usually helps prevent them from flagging it for customs. 🙂

Thanks for the tip! 😍
It’s someone’s birthday, so I’m definitely throwing a card in there too. 🙂

I have a quick question that I haven't been able to find an answer to yet, even though I think I've scrolled through the first five pages of this thread. 🤷
My mom went to the Post Office this morning to send off a package COD, and they told her there are two different ways to do it—one via HP Express and another option 😕—and they were trying to charge her almost $17 in shipping fees. 😕
I honestly have no clue what’s going on here. The package is worth $37, so how much should the shipping actually be? Is it really $8.25 like I've read mentioned in here? And what are these two different methods? 😕
What exactly should I tell them when I head over there this afternoon to drop the package off? 😳

Maybe they were thinking of EMS. That’s what they told me when I sent my first package, just a way to squeeze more money out of you, I guess...

Nah, you just grab that white slip for the package (the one with the little grid for every zip code, whereas the shipping ones are just one long rectangle), get that pale yellow payment slip (it's the 40-cent kind where you list yourself as the recipient since it's for the refund), and grab the yellow cardboard tag for the parcel. Fill everything out, make sure the package is wrapped properly, and drop the whole mess off at the counter. There isn't much else to figure out, really.

And EMS is some kind of fast service, something express... The slip for that is white too, but it has some blue markings on it (or maybe they were orange and blue, I can't be entirely sure)

Just head over to the post office and tell them you want to send it as a ransom! They'll hand you one of those yellow forms to fill out, $8.25 though you’ll have to cover shipping—at least that’s what I ended up paying, even though the package was only worth $67.
My mom calls it "Black Express" whenever she sends heavy 10lb boxes through FedEx for home pickup...

Look, it's simple. You grab that white slip for the package (the one with the little square for every zip code, though for shipments it's just one long rectangle), grab that yellowish-white payment form (it's the 40-cent one, and you list yourself as the recipient since it's for the money being returned to you), and grab the yellow cardboard label for the box. Fill everything out, make sure the package is wrapped properly, and take it all down to the counter. Once you do that, there's nothing left for you to worry about.

And EMS is like some kind of fast shipping, or express service... The slip for that is white too, but it has some blue markings on it (or maybe it was orange and blue, I can't quite remember)

What's this "black HP express" thing? That's just what my mom calls it when she sends heavy 20lb boxes and they come to the house to pick them up...

Thanks everyone 🙂
I'll try to handle it exactly how you guys suggested 😬
Hopefully, they won't give me a hard time again.

In any case, you’ll have to fill out a customs declaration anyway, where you specify exactly what's inside and mark it clearly as a gift. 🙂

I truly don't understand how this works. The package is valued at $37; so, what should the actual shipping cost be? Is it really $8.25 like I've read mentioned here? And what are these two different methods? 😕
And more importantly, what exactly am I supposed to tell them when I go to drop the package off this afternoon? 😳

The very first post in this thread covers C.O.D. shipments, so you might want to give that a read. I think it explains everything quite clearly. 🙂

So, what’s the move when you’re staring at an empty porch and the tracking says your package was delivered, but the USPS folks are just insisting everything went according to plan? I'm wondering what the actual steps are—or even what's worth doing at this point—to figure out where my stuff actually ended up 🤷

Sarah Jackson11 said:What on earth is someone supposed to do when they haven't received their package, yet the USPS claims it was successfully delivered? What are the actual options here? 🤷

She needs to go down there and demand to see exactly who signed for it in her name. Honestly, she should go ahead and argue with them over some phantom signature—let's see how quickly that "lost" package miraculously turns up once she starts threatening to file an official complaint. ☕

Quick question:

On April 10th—eight days ago now—I sent a small package from San Francisco to Dražica. It still hasn't arrived, even though domestic shipping usually takes maybe two or three days tops.
The recipient hasn't received any sort of delivery notice either, though they were keeping an eye out since they knew I shipped it back on the 10th.

I just stopped by the local post office, and they gave me the usual "sometimes things take a little longer" line. Honestly? I’m skeptical. Packages I sent a few days after this one have already reached their destination.

There's absolutely no sign of this package.🤷

Does anyone know where I should start looking for it?

Thanks!

Just wait a little longer... then head down to the local Post Office mid-week with your confirmation receipt and ask them to file a formal search request.

Hey there... I have a question. I’m sure the answer is out there somewhere, but honestly, I've read so much conflicting stuff online that I don't know what to believe anymore.
Regarding shipping...
I'm planning to send a small package—about the size of a shoebox—via COD (Cash on Delivery).
So, here is my process: I pack it up, wrap it in plain paper, tie it with some twine (what kind of twine should I even use?), head to the Post Office, and tell them it's a COD shipment. (I think I get the part about the recipient and how the fees work, etc.). My actual question is: how do I technically process this? Is it officially labeled as a "COD package," or does the label not really matter as long as the cash collection is set up?
Sorry if that sounded a bit messy, I'm having a hard time explaining it...
