Hey,
Wondering what kind of cash I could pull for this setup, or maybe how to beef it up enough to actually run some newer games.
Got an extra Western Digital 500 GB HDD tucked inside here too.

I was wondering how much I could probably get for this setup—or maybe some ideas on how to beef it up just enough to run some newer games.
It also has a WD 500 GB HDD tucked inside somewhere.

Just swap out the graphics card.
How much cash were you looking to drop on it?

1 x OCZ ZT 550W Power Supply
1 x MSI HD 7870 2GB GDDR5 256bit, R7870-2GD5T/OC, 28nm,dual fan
1 x Thermaltake Contac 21, 775,AM2,AM2+,AM3,AM3+,FM1,1155,1156
$753 ADM ... it's a modest overclock on the processor, so it should be able to handle that GPU fine.

1 x MSI B75MA-E33, Socket : 1155, microATX, Intel ® B75, 2xDDR3
$1263 ADM ... this is a whole new platform, so you'll get a noticeably stronger processor right out of the gate.
IMHO, I don't think you even need the i5.

@crimsonstag84/">@@crimsonstag84 - honestly, his CX430 should be able to handle it just fine—it’s not like he absolutely *has* to swap out the power supply. Sure, it might be working a bit harder under load, but it'll hold up. Then again, if he's got the cash to burn, he can do whatever he wants.

Alright, I have a few questions regarding some hardware. I am currently looking into purchasing a new PC, and I was wondering if anyone could advise me on whether this old setup is even worth selling. Specifically, should I attempt to sell everything as a single bundle, or would it be more prudent to part things out? Furthermore, does anyone have recommendations on where one might actually find a buyer for such aging equipment?
Here is the configuration:
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400
GPU - Radeon x1950 gt MATICNA - Gigabyte Technology Co.
MOTHERBOARD - Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. M52L-S3P x.x
CD-DVD ROM - non-functional
RAM - 1GB DDR2
HARD DRIVE - ST3250410AS 232.76 GB SATA
OS - Windows XP SP3
Age is approximately 7 years.

If I were to let him have it for 400, where exactly am I supposed to list it? On Craigslist?
#331 ·
You can check Craigslist, or even our own marketplace here on the forum. Just a heads up though—I doubt you'll see a massive rush of people trying to offload ancient PCs all at once.

Robert Rodriguez2 said:400-$150Maybe even 500, I guess.
I guess it might work. $233 At least get started, because maybe... $167 If you look at those old Pentium 4 builds with a 6600GT inside, I guess this actually looks like an upgrade.
#333 ·
Even if that's the case, it still packs a dual-core processor and a decent-sized hard drive. At the end of the day, he might have to settle for a lower price point, but as long as he lists it, someone out there might just bite.

Thanks a lot for the assistance. I've gone ahead and posted the ad, so I suppose we'll just have to see how things pan out.

CPU - $100
Motherboard - $67
RAM - $83 (assuming it's 4 gb if I caught that right)
Power Supply - $33
Wait, where's the hard drive, the optical drive, the case...?

You planning on actually listing the rest of the components? I mean, just copying and pasting the same old text isn't exactly helping anyone here.

I’ve had this rig for about 4 years now—it's still in solid shape—and I'm wondering what kind of cash I could pull for it in the US market.
