That thing is still a really solid processor... It handles just about any game you throw at it without breaking a sweat. I'm curious though—what kind of new components did you end up switching over to?

You could potentially see an improvement of maybe two hundred bucks, perhaps even a bit more if you're lucky. But honestly, if you aren't planning on upgrading other parts of your rig, it’s definitely not worth the investment.

Unless you're planning on picking up an Intel Core i7-4930K or an Intel Core i7-4960X, I guess it’s pretty much a dead end, just like the others were saying.

Yeah, but he already swapped out the 😁. I'm hoping he did it specifically to make room for some way more powerful components...

Honestly, this new setup isn't even that powerful, at least regarding the CPU:

- ASRock Z77 Extreme11 - motherboard

- Intel Core i7-3770K - processor

(Intel Core i7-2600 vs Intel Core i7-3770K])

- CORSAIR Hydro Series™ H100i Extreme - liquid cooling

I think I'll just keep this "old component" as a backup just in case.
It's not worth selling it, especially when I remember how much cash I dropped on it.
Anyway, 🙂 for all of you

I prefer Asrock for several reasons, mainly because of the extra HDD inputs.
As for the RAM, the old one is still a solid 16GB, so I'll either use that or
once I have the budget, I'll grab some DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB.

🤣

Mind if I ask what you actually do on your PC? 😁

Because you just listed how much, $1667? ...for the exact same thing. I mean, the gap between an Intel Core i7-2600 and an Intel Core i7-3770K is basically nothing—maybe 5-10%. The only real difference is if you're planning on heavy overclocking, but even then, you could just swap out the motherboard or find someone willing to trade an unlocked Intel Core i7-2600K (though you'd probably have to pay $33 extra).

In 99% of cases, you won't even notice the difference.

I spend most of my time working in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and Dreamweaver.

I guess it'll do the job, provided you push the overclock pretty hard 😉

Uffff, that’s a different story if you received it as a gift, but if you paid full price for it, what a waste of money. CPU performance has barely moved the needle over the last few years—it’s basically been stagnation, unless you count the integrated graphics improvements. Honestly, there's no point in holding onto this thing; sell it while it still has some market value. No matter how you slice it, you're losing money here. Either that, or pass it off to someone close to you so a beast like this isn't just sitting there gathering dust.

If someone wants to go ahead and put up $1333—assuming they actually have the time and patience for it—well, nobody’s going to be calling them 😁

I guess I lowballed my power supply a bit ☕—yeah, fair enough... I'll change it back to the original price $1167 though I could probably shave a little off for a serious buyer

I didn't undersell the PSU 😁
It’s actually a solid unit, especially since it doesn't have any warranty issues left

It might pass for a $83 power supply, I guess... though if you're looking at something brand new, it’ll probably run a bit north of $133, so... plus, prices on used power supplies tend to drop pretty fast.

Roughly speaking
Gigabyte MA 770-DS3 motherboard
ATI HD 3870 512MB card
AMD Athlon 6400 X2
4GB of 800MHz RAM
450W Power Supply
It's a burner, but honestly? It’s a solid case with those blue lights...

Rough estimate

Gigabyte MA 770-DS3 motherboard - maybe $50
ATI HD 3870 512MB - $67
AMD Athlon 6400 X2 - up to $67
4GB RAM at 800MHz - $83+
450W Power Supply - which specific model?
Optical drive - about 50-$20
A decent case with blue lighting - could easily run $100, $167
