It's honestly tough to say exactly

In my opinion, the processor might fetch $167, and the motherboard could go for maybe $133... However, since it's a newer Intel chip, people sometimes overpay for them—if you happen to run into someone who doesn't know any better, you might even squeeze out $220 from them. To be perfectly honest, though, for $300 I wouldn't recommend this combo to anyone. I've seen Ryzen 5 1600 setups going for $540-$$200, and for $133, you can pick up a brand-new motherboard, let alone a used one...

Picked this up last September, so everything is still under warranty.
Ryzen 5 3600
Gigabyte Aorus B450 Elite motherboard
ASUS Strix Gaming GTX 1660 Ti 6GB
Esports 34 Duo cooler
Hyper 500W power supply
Sharkoon AI7000 case
16GB DDR4 (2x8GB)
Do you think it’s better to sell the whole rig as one unit or just break it down into parts?

On paper, looking strictly at the components, you’re getting more value—it just means you'll deal with more headaches and likely spend way longer trying to flip everything for a profit.

Plus, prices are trending down. For instance, the 3600 was $333 on sale today, and we can expect GPUs to drop in price soon enough too.

HP Elite 8200 (Microtower)

Intel Core i5-2500
HP OEM PC motherboard/Power Supply
4x2GB RAM
250GB HDD

Selling separately

AMD Radeon RX 550

What’s a fair price for this without being unrealistic?

I can't say for sure about the graphics card, since you could grab something much more powerful for around $250-$100, but then again, you're getting a brand-new card with all the latest features...

This first one is roughly $500-$200

That first one is probably $500-$200

The first one likely includes a standard Power Supply and case, given that the "bundle" is listed at $1000-$400

Maybe even 900-$333 when you factor in that specific graphics card combo. Honestly, I don't think he'd have a "smooth" time selling it for $400—meaning, he’ll either be waiting forever or just won't move it at all.

With Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge i5 and i7 setups, motherboard prices have absolutely plummeted. You see people offloading an i5 2500K for $67. There's actually one listed on eBay right now for $57. Even motherboards aren't worth their weight in gold like they were a few years back... A buddy of mine struggled to move an i7 3770K, a Z77, 16GB of RAM, and a ThermalTake Contact 30 for $367—basically, he had to wait ages for some sucker to bite. 😁 In my opinion, $267 is the absolute ceiling for that kit. He had much bigger plans for it (he actually made $33 flipping those, and even drove out of town to hand it over to a buyer while heading down to Florida 😁).

He was actually pretty decent at turning a profit with those old Intel parts. I doubt he'll pull in more than 😁
anymore.

What I’ve got here is an HP OEM PC. Honestly, I’d be thrilled if I could offload this whole thing along with the AMD Radeon RX 550 for $333 (basically a functional entry-level gaming rig).

My younger brother is looking to upgrade; he might actually end up with a better setup than mine before I even finish my own build. 😁

I picked up a PC a few months back for $767, and looking back on it today, I have this nagging feeling I overpaid quite a bit. I probably could have scored something much better for the price. Does anyone know what a realistic resale value would be right now? It’s in great shape and hasn't given me any trouble at all.

Windows 10 Pro.
Case: ANTEC NX220, Mid-Tower, ATX, windowed, black, no power supply included.
Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-MX R2
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10GHz (4 Cores/4 Threads)
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (GIGABYTE) GDDR5
RAM: DDR3 2x4GB (SAMSUNG/KINGSTON) 1333MHz
HDD: 2 UNITS. One is 465GB and the other is up to 160GB.
Power Supply: I'm actually not sure which one it is; I haven't checked yet.

Windows 10 Pro.
Case: ANTEC NX220, MIDI, ATX, window, black, no power supply. $67
Motherboard: MSI H61 Motherboard. $50
CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10GHz (4 Cores/4 Threads) $50
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (GIGABYTE) GDDR5 $200
RAM: DDR3 2x4GB (Apple/KINGSTON) 1333MHz $67
HDD: 2 UNITS. One is 465GB AND THE OTHER IS UP TO 160. $50
Corsair: Not sure what model, haven't checked yet. ~$50 hopefully it's a decent one

... so just do the math yourself 🙂

So, I guess I dropped the ball a bit and missed out by nearly $333. To be honest, I don't really think two HDDs are worth $50; I’d say a fair price is closer to 200-250, and that goes for the RAM too, I suppose...

A 160GB hard drive is at least ten years old; honestly, it’s barely worth a cheap beer 🙂 Even then, you're overpaying, regardless of whether it's actually worth $17 as much as a used HDD

Well, I suppose that 160GB one might be $33, but the one from an IBM ThinkPad is definitely around $83, since it's pretty recent. I've noticed they're going for about $50-$60

A new General Electric drive starting at 1TB will run you about $93.

I've got four of those ancient HDDs sitting here. I'll let them go for $17 each—you'll make a killing😵😵😵

Man, nobody wants to hear that they overpaid for something, but it is what it is. Who here is willing to step up and say, "Don't shoot the messenger"? 😬

Man, it feels like just yesterday that used 500GB drives were going for $33, but looking at Pavlov’s new 1TB model, prices are starting at $90
.

Honestly, a 160GB drive is basically e-waste these days; you're better off tossing it in the bin or giving it away for free.

I actually gave my old 160GB drive to a buddy a few years back. Around three or five years ago, my cousin actually hooked me up with two working 500GB drives he scavenged from an e-waste bin at his company over in Germany.

I honestly think they’re getting so old at this point that I wouldn't even dare touch them. It's basically asking to lose everything you invest into it 🙂
