Has any of you actually consulted an OB-GYN or some other medical professional—to see if this nonsense is even backed by science?

Regarding that whole ordeal of being bedridden for three days straight... since I started taking birth control at eighteen, those dramatic episodes have largely vanished, and even if they do occur, I’ve strategically timed my cycle to fall over the weekend. Back when I was navigating middle and high school, my teachers were actually quite accommodating regarding my absences. I recall one particularly mortifying instance where I showed up for an exam or some such assessment, only to suffer a bout of bloody stools—honestly, it was utterly revolting and deeply embarrassing—which forced me to rush straight to the emergency room at 😁
Once I enter the workforce, I intend to rely heavily on the pill, because frankly, I find the convenience absolutely indispensable...😍

Great topic. I’m actually laughing my head off reading this...

So, here's the deal with my grandmother... she acts like she’s some kind of genius, eavesdropping on every single conversation in the house...

The other day, I was on the phone with my mom, telling her how bad my period cramps were hitting me, but mentioning I’d already had two cups of coffee so it should wrap up soon...

Sure enough, fifteen minutes later, things settle down and I decide to head out to the beach for a swim... My grandmother nearly has a stroke right then and there, asking me what on earth I'm doing and where I think I'm going... all because she's terrified I might accidentally go swimming while on my period...

I tried unsuccessfully to explain the concept of a tampon to her, then just gave up and went to jump in the water...

A different time, I wasn't even on my period, but she still had to chime in... A friend and I were heading out, getting our makeup done... I asked her, "Hey, could you please help me with some concealer for these dark circles?"

At that exact moment, Grandma drifts past us like a ghost and says: "Yeah, that's right, girls get those dark circles when they're on their periods..."

I responded, totally stunned: "But I'm not even on mine right now."

Grandma: "I know everything..."

Good grief...😕

Look, there’s a grain of logic in most of this nonsense
Soaking in a tub with hot water dilates the blood vessels—
which just leads to heavier bleeding afterward. Not exactly ideal if you’re already dealing with a heavy flow

Plus, when your hormones are all over the place during those days, even hair dye might not take properly
It’s similar to when a stylist tells you not to use conditioner before coloring because it "might" mess up the results

And so on. Of course, it varies from woman to woman and cycle to cycle
There are no hard rules here—other than the fact that you actually need to wash yourself, for heaven's sake 🤷

Maria Chase55 said:honestly, once you actually start working, you won't have time to just lounge around... you'll just pop two Advil on an empty stomach and power through—your boss won't be asking, "hey, are you on your period? why aren't you staying home today?" instead, you'll just get things done.🤣 🤣

yeah I know, I used to push through it back in the day—it's just that being a student has made me a little soft lately... if I could handle it then, I can definitely handle it now... it's really not that big of a deal...

(yeah, I know I'm totally off-topic 😢 oops 😢 )

here I am 😁

My neighbor (who actually showed up to protest because the sound of running water in the tub bothers her!) claims that only certain types of women need daily showers, while a "respectable lady" only needs to wash up on Saturdays. 🙂
Trust me, you don't want to hear my rant about that one. 🙈

Anyway, this topic is absolutely genius—I'm so bummed I didn't start it sooner!
Seriously though, what are you guys even saying? Some of you asking how people don't wash? If I didn't shower, I’d probably spend the first four days just sitting on the toilet using the bidet spray instead! 🙄
During those days, I go through five or six packs of overnight pads a day, so if I wasn't staying clean, I'd basically have a crowd of local guys hanging out on my front porch waiting for me.
I guess that's why they tell that joke about the guy at the fish market! 😬

And regarding jumping straight back into bed—unless it's one of those rare extreme cases—staying active and moving moderately really helps manage the pain.
It's just common sense; it's not like we're incapacitated or anything!
Someone mentioned just popping two Advil 👍 and powering through, like nobody's even asking if you're actually feeling up to it.

It’s an issue. One of those funnier topics surfacing today.🤣

God, I mean, why doesn't anyone here just take a break so they can lie in bed writhing in pain for five days because of that whole miserable period thing... and then on top of all that, they don't even bother with hygiene?
The mere thought of it makes me feel a little nauseous.😁

😂😂

Great topic😁, by the way. I’d bet my life that half the people who skip washing during their period have perfectly manicured nails and a diamond stud in their tooth.🙏

edit: and a French pedicure😬

Such an awesome topic😁, btw. I’d bet my life savings that half the people who don't bother washing up during their period probably have fake acrylic nails and some kind of glitter stuck in their teeth🙏

edit: and maybe even a French pedicure 😬

ugh, there's that old saying about being all show and no substance😁

I think our moms used to say that all the time

Like, totally fine on the outside, but just... yuck on the inside😁 😁

🤣

Sure, maybe, but there’s a massive difference between washing your hair during your period and just taking a shower (meaning just the body). 🙂I don't wash my hair during that time—I've already explained why—but I still shower normally every single day.

My hair tends to be pretty dry anyway. Even when I'm not on my period, I only wash it every five or six days, because I don't need to do it more often than that.

Since my cycle is super regular—exactly 28 days—I know exactly when it’s coming. So, I just get ahead of it and wash my hair the day before. That's it. 🙂

Honestly, I feel like women never get enough lectures about periods, whether they should wash up down there, or if showering during your cycle is actually a thing or not...🤷 😵

Actually, I wasn't even talking about hair. Hair can be tricky, I suppose. ☕But surely a quick five-minute rinse won't cause any harm, or maybe it will, who knows?🙄

And a little tip for those people who spend all day in bed because they're in pain: hydrotherapy might actually help ease things a bit.🙏

I think I’m going to lose my mind, what a topic 😂😂

And then there's the part where you could actually bleed out 😂 Just so you know; on average, a woman loses about a teaspoon of fresh blood during a week-long period, though about a third of that is actually mucus, bits of the uterine lining, and vaginal cells.

My monologue on this... you probably don't want to hear it... 🙈

😲

Back when I lived on the other side of town, my upstairs neighbor spent one morning screaming at her husband for showering every single day... telling him people only need to wash once a week. Must have been some coincidence that jadesailor14 and I were neighbors back then... 🤣

Well then, why in the world am I burning through two entire packs of night pads—and look, I’m a total amateur, 🙈 I only just realized that the Always brands at Target are actually bigger and work way better because the top layer doesn't feel like cheap plastic, if you can believe that 😁—plus another little pack with four drops left 🤷 if that's truly all that's coming out? 🤷

Please don't rub salt in the wound!
I almost lost my best friend at the beach last summer because she had the nerve to tell me she only needs half a pack of Tampax a month and wondered why I was acting like it was such a big deal for two and a half days.
Honestly, if I didn't have such a curvy figure, I'd probably just be wearing diapers!
