Since we’re talking about the best in the country...

Number one for me is definitely that spot in Rhode Island. Man, the food there is incredible. That's what life is all about. Hit up Robi's around noon for a cheeseburger or a bacon burger, then head to the beach to relax. Once the sun starts beating down, you deal with that alcohol headache and just sprawl out on your towel. Dip in the water for a bit, and just stay like that until evening. Then, hit up Veli Jože for some seafood risotto and cod paired with white wine. Do it all over again the next day. Mmmmmm....

The local bakery with the most underwhelming selection is definitely on Rhode Island, specifically in the town of Vis. Back when
that swampy group organized that little workshop-festival thing (Otokultivator, I think?), me and brightridge19 were starving right before the ferry. I went out with my boyfriend at the time to grab some food, ordering things like "let me get a croissant," "give me a meat burek," or "I'll take a cheese pastry"—you know, actual delicacies. But, man, what a letdown... the bakery was only stocking plain white or wheat bread. We ended up grabbing one of each just for $6.75. Honestly, I don't think I've ever in my life—before or since—been able to finish even half a slice of plain wheat bread without something to wash it down with. Not even water helps...

Man, City @ Saxophone... 😍 😍 😍

@ Melissa Sanchez37:
Don't even get me started on Rhode Island, that place is still alright. 🙂 So, we’re out here on Rhode Island after a total disaster of a night—you know the drill: too much drinking, crashing in some random backyard full of mosquitoes, and waking up with what feels like a smeared can of pate all over my clothes. We stumble into the only shop in Rogac looking for some bread, and the clerk just looks at us and asks if we pre-ordered. Pre-ordered? Who on earth pre-orders bread? Apparently, that's how it works here. They just drop a fixed amount of bread off, and if you actually want to eat, you have to place your order the night before. Ridiculous.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the island over in Komiža, they’re basically eating Hot Dogs all night long.

Except they call it a "hodok."😬

I was at this little joint in downtown Chicago, and I kid you not, the menu actually had "hot Dog" written out like that... just totally bizarre.
And then there’s those famous French fries... you know, the ones everyone obsesses over.

That’s how things worked on the islands back in the day too, just a few years ago... apparently you could just email them an order. 😬 Last summer, they really stepped it up for the festival. They had plenty of bread and all sorts of other treats ready to go.

and they called French fries "pommes frites."

Nothing beats stumbling upon a typo like "hemedex" somewhere.🤣

My top 5 misspelled pastries at the Bobis near the market:

1. Krafen
2. Krafen extra (<- chocolate donut)
3. Brooklyn sugar-free
4. 4. Punć kocka 5. Jadran kolać

Speaking of that Krafen extra... man, I would kill for a decent chocolate donut right now here in Washington, D.C. But those Bobis ones? They wrap the whole thing in chocolate. The ENTIRE thing! It's not just a little drizzle or a filling pop... it's everything.
I am seriously craving some carbs right now... 🙂

Honestly, I miss decent donuts in D.C., not even just the chocolate kind. For the first few years, I was literally dreaming about warm ones from Prerade or Gusic. 😢

It really gets under my skin when people pull that "they don't make things like they used to in my hometown" routine. Just being stubborn for the sake of it.

I don't see what's misspelled about it. 🤔
Where I grew up, we always just called them Krafen.

Jason Chavez32, shut it. In a massive place like NYC, you can't even find a decent donut, which honestly says everything about how much this city sucks. 😛
Ari bakes, but I’m a total donut addict and being without one for seven days is killing me. 😢

Stop commenting before people start thinking you're some local hero or something. 🙄

Don't you dare disrespect this city
If you're just hanging around here on a whim
You might find yourself getting kicked right in the teeth
Or maybe taking a beer bottle to the face instead
You're walking around wearing our colors
And hitting up our local clubs
But come summer, you suddenly act all high and mighty if you spot someone from NYC

show some respect, beeyatch! 🙂

Just because I said there aren't any decent donuts in Chicago doesn't mean I'm hating on the whole city. It just means the donuts suck. Period. Stop being so paranoid.

And yeah, I'll talk trash whenever I feel like it. I don't need your permission.

Nothing beats homemade donuts, honestly. Just plain and simple, then you can toss whatever kind of jam you're feeling on top... ☕

Vanilla donuts win, jam croissants are better, cheese strudels are superior, and cherry puff pastry is the way to go. 😬
