Come on, admit it, you only joined Detles because of the boobs. 😬

I loved my preschool days. I was always in that group that stayed until 1:00 PM so I didn't have to take naps. My teacher's name was Josephine. I was a total boss and a straight-A student. Plus, I was the only kid who could actually draw—I’d start with the hair instead of the feet. That kind of thing.

My preschool traumas:
1) My teacher threw my donut in the trash because I was late for breakfast (she ended up catching TB later, mwahaha)
2) They ripped my Barbie dolls apart
3) Another teacher claimed my Barbie cats looked like rats😢

😲 Some teachers act like moms, others feel more like wicked stepmothers😁
In your case, they were definitely stepmothers.😬 😉

Is there anyone here who actually grew up without some kind of childhood trauma lingering in their brain?

Here are a few things I just can't seem to wrap my head around, no matter how hard I try:

1. Telling left from right without pausing to think about it first.
2. Remembering the capital cities of the Baltic states... you know, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
3. What "three quarters" actually means mathematically. Like, if someone says five, is that 4.15 or 5.45 or what???🤔

I always remember it because the logic seems totally backwards—it really is. "Three quarters of five" would be 4:45. To me, that sounds like it should be 45 minutes *until* five, but—well, no.

That strange way of thinking implies it’s three quarters of the fifth hour. So, 4:45.

🙂

As for the first and second points... I haven't the slightest clue.😕

Well, life happens.
There were positives, too.
One aunt used to let me stay in her room to play with makeup whenever I couldn't sleep.😎

well obviously three quarters of 5 is 5
4:45. 😕 🙄

15 mins - first quarter
30 mins - second quarter
45....3rd quarter!

total quarters passed? 3!

4 quarters of 5 is 5, so why even say it.
2 quarters happens to be half of 5, so no need for that either since "half" is shorter.

so... how can 2+2=5.

Thinking back to daycare...
The one thing I remember clearly is how we had stuffed cabbage rolls for lunch every single day. I absolutely hated them back then. I used to sneak one into my pocket to take home, and then I’d just flush it down the toilet when I got back.
At home, it was usually meatloaf for dinner. I hated that just as much, so I’d just shove pieces of it under the couch.

I didn't stay a secret for long, though. I got busted on both fronts pretty fast.

I was a total nightmare at daycare. One time, I actually tied some of the girls to the radiator. It sounds kind of wild looking back, but man, those teachers were freaking out. And some of the older guys watching were pretty concerned too.

Preschool traumas:
a) I was always the first one there because my mom had to head to work early. I was terrified she wouldn’t come back for me, so I’d practically bolt out onto the sidewalk three times every single morning just looking for her, crying my eyes out.
b) They used to force me to eat jam and beef.
c) My aunt's son, who was two years younger than us, once smacked me right in the head with a stick. Then they actually took me to get stitches.
d) I absolutely hated my name. I wanted to be called Ivanna just like my little friend from preschool.
e) I was head over heels for this kid named Andrew. He was the smallest one in class and wore glasses, but he was the only one sweet enough to draw me a birthday cake.😍

Basically, I didn't really know how to socialize until about 5th grade... 🙄

Here are the top things I’ll never be able to master:

1. Left vs. right
2. The capital cities of the Baltic states
3. What "quarter past" or "quarter til" actually means—like if someone says quarter to five, is that 4:45 or what???🤔

1. It’ll probably take me a few seconds to orient myself forever... though they say people who struggle with left and right have a better eye for visual arts and sketching.
2. I know it's Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius, but I have zero clue which belongs to which.😁 😁
3. I honestly couldn't care less about the time.

Oh, wait, I almost forgot one more little story from back when I was in preschool. I walk through the door after school...

Grandma: "So, how was daycare today?"
Me: "I was actually an angel today! Didn't beat up a single kid." 🙏

It sounds rebellious now, of course, though the teachers were understandably concerned at the time. Even some of the older staff seemed unsettled by it.

When you say things that cool, I honestly wish I could head straight back to your old preschool.

Man, I once tied up my cousin and a friend to a tree in the backyard and just walked away. 😬 My old man told me it was totally normal. Typical.

But he was still the big authority figure for those preschool teachers. 🤣 Seriously, my dad was something else. 🤣

There’s that one mnemonic thing where you hold up your thumb and index finger on your left hand to make an "L" shape to remind you which side is which.
It works, sure, but give me a break... if it's this much of a struggle, I shouldn't need a life hack just to function!

That’s helpful, I guess, but honestly? When things get this massive, I don't want to be relying on little memory hacks!

I don't really need that. I usually remember before it even comes up. I just have to double-check which hand I'm using to type or move my mouse, but it takes me a second to snap back. It isn't exactly automatic.
