He got DQ'd because the idiots over at Aston Martin clearly didn't put enough fuel in the car or failed to manage consumption properly... just amateur hour.
I actually liked the F1 crew, but this Aston Martin team acts like they recruited a bunch of clowns from Ferrari...
First off, their strategy was a total mess.
Thanks to Nicholas Latifi, Sebastian Vettel had a massive gap ahead of Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, and the rest of them...
At one point, he could have pitted and still pulled ahead of Alonso if the pit stop hadn't been such a disaster (unlike the delay they suffered during the actual stop 😳). He would've cruised past Esteban Ocon too, since the undercut was lethal at Indianapolis Motor Speedway...
They botched his stop by about a second, after already being two seconds late before that... but man, he drove an incredible in-lap and out-lap. By the time Ocon exited the pits, Vettel was right on his tail and almost blew past him...
If he’d gone in when the gap was 0.5-1 second and things had gone smoothly, there's no way Ocon could have covered that...
The reality was that if Aston Martin had any clue how to strategize, he should have pitted right after Nicholas Latifi came in and they realized the rest of the field was falling apart.
Aston Martin probably had the pace to beat Alpine, but not enough to make moves on track without getting aggressive...
On the flip side, Nicholas Latifi was basically acting as a shield against the guys behind him. As soon as Nicholas Latifi cleared out, Carlos Sainz was flying—about 1.5-2 seconds faster per lap than Ocon and Vettel—and caught up to them in no time...
They even looked nervous about Carlos Sainz coming out of the pits because the service was so slow. Just a few laps before Nicholas Latifi pitted, the gap between Vettel and Carlos Sainz was 16 seconds, while he was nearly 20 seconds ahead of Alonso 🤦
Then there's the whole fuel screw-up...
How the hell are you supposed to know how much fuel you have left? Even if you'd backed off for Lewis Hamilton—which you definitely should have done in the last couple of laps—
you still would've cruised into a podium spot for third. Instead, you messed up everything in a row and walked away empty-handed...
Even though you were incredibly lucky with that start and should have milked it for all it was worth.
Now the clowns are complaining about third place 🤦
Who the hell is actually complaining? The penalty is crystal clear, and no amount of whining changes anything. You were required to show a minimum of one liter of fuel left in the car. You couldn't do it, so what's the point of complaining? What exactly are you going to argue?
Even if you somehow tore the car apart and squeezed an extra liter out of it, it wouldn't matter. You're supposed to extract that fuel through the standard systems after the race, not by dismantling the car and praying for a miracle...
