If they don't spot a deviation during that first physical exam, I honestly don't know what to tell you.
Getting an imaging study just for that seems totally unnecessary.

At the end of the day, the surgeon still has to determine if you're actually a candidate for the procedure before they'll even give you an appointment.

Getting imaging done just for that is a complete waste of time.

What’s your logic there? You think a doctor can just glance at you and decide if there's a deviation or not?

What's the verdict on Ostojic? Does anyone actually have any insight here?

Back when I was living in Cleveland, I saw a specialist who told me one nostril was bigger and slightly damaged while the other was smaller. He just gave me some saline spray and mentioned surgery might be an option later on. Honestly, I didn't have a clue what he was talking about since that was ages ago. But now over at the Mayo Clinic, they’re saying everything looks fine and just gave me some drops.

One side is smaller for me too. When I went in for imaging, they picked up a sinus deformity, so I ended up going under the knife.

boldnomad45 said:Mine was on the smaller side, too. When I went in for scans, they could clearly see the sinus deformity, so I ended up having surgery.

So, did the surgery actually do anything for you? And where'd you go for it?

Mayo Clinic. And yeah, it's the only thing that actually works.

That’s exactly what I mean—that’s precisely why they perform rhinoscopy and endoscopic exams.
I mean, how else are you going to use a standard X-ray to clearly show a deformity in the cartilage elements?

How on earth is a standard X-ray supposed to show cartilage deformation?

Clearly, we're on different pages. I assumed it was just a quick checkup—doctor looks at you, checks your nasal passages, hands you a prescription for some spray, and sends you on your way.

So, I had my nose surgery about ten days ago with Dr. Glumcic. Honestly? It wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be—I didn't deal with any actual pain at all. The absolute worst part is just that weird pressure in your nose and having to breathe through your mouth, but even that’s totally manageable. And getting the packing removed? Totally fine. It takes like two seconds and you're done. I was genuinely bracing myself for something way more intense and painful than this actually turned out to be.

Today's the day I finally get the splint off! I am seriously so stoked—I can't wait to see how my new nose looks 🙂

So, I had my septum deviation surgery about two weeks ago, and I just wrapped up my first post-op checkup today. Total brain fart moment, though—I completely forgot to ask the doctor how long I actually need to lay low... you know, specifically when I can get back to hitting the gym and lifting weights. I’ve heard some people say two months is the magic number, but is that actually legit, or am I cleared to start grinding sooner? 😁

Getting my splint off today. Super stoked and can't wait to see the new look 🙂

Did they break any bone?

Hey there, if you don't mind, I was wondering if you could walk me through the actual timeline of things on the day of the surgery?

Ashley Bishop43 said:Showed up at 8 AM. Spent the morning chatting with the anesthesiologist and going over my labs. Once that was cleared, I headed to my room and threw on one of those hospital gowns—not exactly high fashion. Glumcic took some photos of me, then we hammered out the final details on what kind of nasal implant I wanted. After that, they rolled me into the OR and hooked me up to an IV. The anesthesiologist tells me, "Alright, you're gonna drift off now. Just count down from ten." Pretty sure I hit seven and I was out cold. 🙂

Woke up feeling totally out of it. Vision was all blurry, so I just crashed again for a couple of hours. Once I finally felt human again, I chatted with everyone about how the surgery went, then headed home around 3 PM.

Megan Sanchez27, honestly, I don't even know what he was trying to pull. I didn't even want to find out. 😬 I had a decent bump on my nose that they leveled out, slimmed the nostrils a bit, and shaved down the septum. That was basically it.

Can't even say there was any actual pain after the surgery. Honestly, none. It’s just that pressure from the tampon that feels super uncomfortable, but it doesn't exactly hurt. Three days of dealing with that? I can handle it.

All I can say is, I pulled the mold off yesterday and I’m stoked. If it stays looking like this, I'm golden. 🙂

Thanks a ton for the reply! 🙂 I'm scheduled for an OP at the Mayo Clinic this November. Haven't even had my consultation yet, so I'm still in the dark. All I know is I've got this massive hump and a huge nose—honestly, feels like it needs to be completely broken just to stand a chance at being straightened out or resized. Interview is set for September, but I'm already obsessing over the details.

Ashley Bishop43 said:I rolled in around 8:00 AM, which naturally meant I was stuck in one of those endless little chats with the anesthesiologist while they poked through my lab results. Once that was out of the way, I retreated to my room to squeeze myself into one of those ridiculous hospital gowns they make you wear—you know, the ones that offer zero dignity. Then Glumcic came by to snap some photos and we had this whole final negotiation about what kind of nasal prep I wanted or didn't want. After all that back-and-forth, we headed into the OR, where they hooked me up to an IV. I laid down, the anesthesiologist gave me the whole "you’re going to drift off now, just count backward from ten" speech, and honestly, I think I barely made it past seven before everything went black. 🙂

I woke up feeling like my vision was completely shot, just totally blurry, so I ended up drifting right back into a two-hour nap almost immediately. Once I finally came to, I spent some time catching up with everyone and chatting about how the surgery went—everything seems fine—and then, about an hour later, I headed home. That was around 3:00 PM.

Megan Sanchez27, honestly, I don't even know what he was trying to pull there, mostly because I just didn't have the energy to find out. 😬 I had this pretty significant bump on my nose that they ended up smoothing out, trimmed down the bridge a bit, and refined the tip, and honestly, that was pretty much it.

I honestly can't say that I felt any actual pain after the surgery—it really wasn't there—but that constant pressure from the tampon is definitely uncomfortable, if not a little awkward. Still, it's nothing you can't handle for three days.

All I can really say is that I pulled the mold out yesterday, and honestly, if it stays looking this good, I am beyond thrilled. 🙂

Thanks a ton for the heads-up, I’m really glad to hear everything turned out okay. Now that you've finally pulled the mold off, have you noticed any leaking or seepage issues at all?

Once that was out of the way, I headed back to my room to change into one of those ridiculous hospital gowns—you know the ones, where you feel like you're wearing a glorified paper napkin. Then Glumcic came by to snap some photos and we had this whole final negotiation regarding exactly what kind of nasal prep I wanted or didn't want. After all that deliberation, we finally made our way into the OR, where they hooked me up to an IV. I laid down, and the anesthesiologist gave me that classic line about drifting off into sleep and counting backward from ten. Honestly, I think I barely even hit seven before everything just went black. 🙂

I woke up feeling like I was stumbling through a fog—everything was pretty blurry for a bit—so I ended up drifting right back into a two-hour nap. Once I finally felt like a functioning human again, I spent some time catching up with everyone to chat about how the surgery went, and then I headed home around 3:00 PM.

Megan Sanchez27, honestly, I don't even know what he was trying to pull there, mostly because I just couldn't bring myself to care enough to find out. 😬 I had this pretty significant bump on my nose that they finally went in and smoothed out, trimmed up the bridge a bit, and narrowed the nostrils just enough—and honestly, that was really all it took.

I honestly can't say I felt any actual pain following the surgery—it really wasn't there—but that pressure from the tampon is definitely unpleasant. It’s just one of those uncomfortable sensations rather than sharp pain, and honestly, three days of dealing with it is something you can push through.

All I can really say is that I popped the mold off yesterday, and honestly? I’m absolutely thrilled with how it turned out—especially if it actually holds up this way. 🙂

I totally forgot to ask about the logistics of the payment—does everything go through via direct deposit to their account before the surgery, or is it handled after the fact? Also, does that initial quote cover things like the tampon removal, getting the mold taken off, and those follow-up post-op appointments, or are those extra fees I should be bracing for? Thanks!

No worries at all, honestly—I'm just glad I could help you out a bit! 🙂

I've still got some lingering dark circles under my eyes, but once I layer on some concealer, you can't even tell!

I actually paid in cash, so I’m not totally sure how the bank transfer thing works (plus, they give you a 10% discount if you pay cash, which is a total win). They have you pay upfront before the procedure starts, which is actually pretty convenient since you're usually such a zombie from the anesthesia afterward anyway...
Just more petljanje then

What's the damage for an initial consultation with Glumcic?
