Viacom managed to book a way better alternative lineup in their very first year than Coachella has managed in all its history.

if they booked some indie legends alongside Tv on the Radio, then maybe I'd actually consider going, but right now? forget it. besides, even with Grinderman, Mastodon, Death Cab for Cutie, Streets, and Goribor... Coachella isn't even meant to be an alternative festival anyway, we've got Viacom for that, which I'll definitely hit up too.

At the end of the day, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival wasn't designed to be an alternative music fest; for that kind of vibe, I'll just happily head over to Lollapalooza instead.

I'm right there with you. My only tweak would be swapping out TV on the Radio for Cypress Hill, and then putting TV on the Radio in place of Mastodon.

Michelle Diaz14 said:Fine, but why spend weeks clogging up this thread with hate posts instead of just emailing the organizers to complain?

I’m not trying to kill the vibe here, but I sent emails last year and the year before. No response. No changes made. I didn't even get a polite "get lost," let alone a "thanks, we'll look into it."

I've accepted that it's just a massive corporate machine and nobody's forcing me to show up, but honestly? I'd pay double if they'd just book Grinderman.

I’ve come to terms with the fact that this is just a massive machine and nobody is forcing me to show up, but honestly, I’d pay double if it meant seeing Grinderman.

Exactly! Even through the official forums, you could file complaints or ask questions and get answers from other community members, but there was never any sign of life from the organizers themselves. It's interesting how they shut down the forum this year—makes you wonder why.🤔

Look, Live Nation brings out la ROUX. LA ROUX. It’s not even like they announced two solid acts and then decided to pivot to local talent—they always announce massive international stars who are actually good. Why are they so incompetent? Seriously. And look, the people at Live Nation are actually nice people. You see them on Facebook trying to listen to suggestions and acting like they care about making everyone happy by booking big names. They claim they’re trying their best and want us to be happy too.
But instead, we get this Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival mess. A total disaster. People are flooding their Facebook comments telling them to just go jump in a lake already.
Honestly, I'm so glad I didn't buy a ticket.

🤣🤣
la ROUX... what a terrible name, and what a terrible artist😂

Terraneo managed to book way more interesting indie acts in their very first year than INmusic has in its entire history.

Real talk. I couldn't care less about the "alternative scene." I'd much rather watch Nick Cave than some garbage bands that are only considered "cool" because nobody has ever heard of them.
If I'm shelling out cash for a ticket, I want to see actual good bands, not some alt trash.

I honestly can't believe what people are willing to fight about these days🤣

It’s officially started: a holy war between a legendary indie icon and some obscure nobody. Parents, you might want to keep your kids indoors for this one🙂

Look, there’s really no point in acting like some high-brow music snob and picking favorites just to look cool.

Honestly, you might as well just hate all indie artists equally. 😁

What a mess. For the first time ever, they've scheduled two bands to drop on the exact same day—and what a pair they are 😁

The simple fact that they picked this black sludge out of 122 different bands from 16 different countries says everything you need to know about Mary and her crew's taste in music. 🙄🙄🙄

Mastodon sticks out like a sore thumb on this lineup list. No offense to anyone who digs the more mainstream stuff, obviously. But seriously... this year's roster feels a bit lackluster to me. It feels like 99% of these bands were just plucked from a "similar artists" recommendation on Last.fm. I’m not saying their music isn't great, but shouldn't a major festival like the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival feature a few more household names? I honestly thought Damir had passed away until I saw the announcement for this festival. And Arcade Fire... well, I don't personally listen to them, but they are one of those "big name" acts that makes life feel a little less mundane, so I guess I owe the festival a small nod for that. Then there's Cypress Hill... look, it's Damir. As for Grinderman... hmm, they don't exactly scream "festival vibes" to me, so seeing Nick with them feels a bit unexpected, though I suppose it's fine. Mastodon is excellent, but they still feel like such an odd choice here. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy, but given their specific genre and style, they really don't mesh with the rest of the lineup—which matters when you're shelling out money for a ticket just to see one specific act. My point is, most people who love Mastodon probably won't care for the other bands being offered at Coachella. A little more balance wouldn't hurt. But I don't want to sound like your typical, grumpy, complaining American. It's actually quite good, it just could have been much better. See? I didn't even come across as a typical, miserable American just now. I totally pulled it off. Has anyone else noticed how much I love using the words "totally" and "bukkake"?

I am honestly so thrilled that Mastodon is the only metal band on the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival lineup this year, because it’s going to force all those narrow-minded metalheads who can't handle anything else to either skip the festival entirely—please, let them choose this option—or shell out a ridiculous amount of cash just to see one single act. As for the rest of us, who don't have an issue switching gears from garage rock to listen to some British hip hop (can you imagine the horror of experiencing two different genres in one weekend!?) we are going to have a blast...
