(..)
Regarding their impact on the rest of the music scene today (if we aren't talking about the super commercial side like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and that crowd), I really don't think anyone has as much influence as they do—and probably Animal Collective right alongside them. No other band even touches the level of influence Radiohead used to spread, but I'd say they are definitely the most prominent ones out there right now.

all in all, I am just dying to finally hear them live! 🙂

👍 That’s actually exactly what I was getting at! Even last year, hardly anyone had heard of Arcade Fire, yet they still managed to pull in 8 or 9 thousand people to their shows. 🙂
And besides, I don't see how it helps us all knowing who Billy Idol is, right? 😬

Honestly, seeing LCD Soundsystem would make me happy too—even if their new stuff didn't quite click for me personally—but I have my doubts. Not because I think the promoter is clueless (actually, looking at how they organize things compared to other festivals I've been to, I don't think that's the case; plus, the fact they pulled off The Flaming Lips' only mainland US tour last summer says a lot!), but more because I doubt they could swing a gig here just a day or two before they head to Israel. 🤷

offtopic:

Even though I think AF is great, they aren't the best band of this era for me—there are a few higher quality bands out there in my opinion. As long as I get to hear this, I'm good

then those snobby little chirpers like Animal Collective and their kind can go play at 3 p.m., which is exactly where they belong.

Animal Collective were recently 🙂, and Explosions in the Sky are in the US during Coachella, so we are totally off-topic here, but EitS are clearly a much more snobby band 😛 (honestly, I'm curious where you see the snobbery in Animal Collective? From their interviews, they seem like totally down-to-earth people, and their music feels pretty straightforward too!)
And even if "Let Me Back In" might be my favorite track of the year, we've all heard it by now, and let's be real—it's nowhere near "What Would I Want? Sky"😍

edit: forgot the biggest news, Arcade Fire has a new track featuring David Byrne, Speaking in Tongues, honestly, it totally hits the mark and stays right in line with what you'd expect from 😲 👍

The guy was asking when last year's lineup dropped. That article (from June 14, 2010, at 1:51 PM) came out right around the same time as the official schedule. I don't have the exact timestamp burned into my brain, but word was getting around back then. It was roughly a week before the festival kicked off.

There are definitely a few others with more substance if you ask me... though, when you put them next to that weird, almost second-rate group called Animal Collective, I guess it makes sense why everyone puts them on a pedestal.

Man, you're totally comparing apples to oranges here.

Well, of course I'm making comparisons. Am I not allowed to? Well, shoot. It's summer, anything goes, I guess 😉

And regarding the whole snobbery thing, I don't mean it when talking about the artists' characters—since I don't actually know what those indie kids look like (nor do I care, really)—but rather their music. And I would absolutely never say that Explosions play snobby music; quite the opposite, actually. To me, their melodies are just so full of emotion, almost borderline melodramatic 😉 )... honestly, what gets under my skin the most is seeing them get praised to high heaven on various forums and sites like Pitchfork, where their work is declared the albums of the year (back in 2009) alongside acts like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, XX, The Very Best, Antony and the Johnsons, Bill Callahan, Wild Beasts, The Antlers, Florence + The Machine, not to mention Fever Ray, that project by that one Swedish lady (what was her name, Karin something...) which might be the best thing to happen to music in the last few years.

P.S. I realize taste is extremely subjective, and those lists are too, but if I don't vent about people putting LCD Soundsystem, Animal Collective, or that annoying mess that is Dirty Projectors ahead of much higher quality musicians, I fear I might start following everyone else's reviews. Then I'd end up thinking some mainstream pop star is the next big thing, and that is a very rational fear, if you ask me.

Oh, right... I listened to "Speaking in Tongues" by David Byrne. It's great. Now I can hardly wait for Coachella, though I still hold a grudge against them (and they're probably crying crocodile tears about it 🙂 )for booking such a small number of "important" artists, if that's how you want to put it.

Look, you could probably book Fever Ray for basically the same amount they paid those acts playing at 6 PM and 8 PM slots back during the old Coachella days. Maybe we aren't talking about massive household names here—I get that—but let's be real: FR puts on a show that raises the bar for any major festival lineup, and honestly, they deserve that kind of spotlight at Coachella too.

Man, I really didn't need to hear that. Now I'm just 😠

Stupid question, honestly 🙂 if my girlfriend and I are planning on sharing a tent, do we both need to buy camping passes, or is the fee charged per tent?

Dennis Lee87 said:I find myself staring at this headline regarding T-Mobile US and their apparent refusal to respect a legal ruling, and I can’t help but feel a sense of weary déjà vu. It seems we are once again witnessing a massive corporate entity deciding that the rules simply don't apply when they become inconvenient to the bottom line. It’s a classic maneuver: ignore the mandate, wait for the inevitable fallout, and then deploy a fleet of high-priced lawyers to argue that the decision was flawed to begin with. One would think that after several such instances, there might be a shred of institutional respect left, but clearly, my expectations were misplaced. It reminds me of a time back in Chicago when I dealt with a major telecommunications provider over a billing error; they treated the entire concept of accountability like a suggestion rather than a requirement. At this point, it feels less like an oversight and more like a calculated strategy of defiance.

Does anything here seem off to you? 😁 Politicians seem to possess a singular, almost specialized talent for dismantling everything that actually works; frankly, they lack the basic competence required for anything else. Perhaps this serves as a moment for some genuine reflection before you head to the polls next time.

I'm heading out to the festival. It would be a genuine shame to miss an event of this magnitude, provided the weather decides to cooperate this time around—unlike that mess we dealt with last year. 🙂

I’m actually pretty stoked for the festival. Not sure why everyone is complaining about the lineup so much?

To me, it looks solid—Mastodon, Arcade Fire, Grinderman, Jamiroquai, Dubioza Kolektiv, and so on...

Now they’re all acting like they’re "protecting the local tourism potential" just because they can't stretch the festival out to three days... Like T-Mobile US is some huge deal and they’re totally certain they could pull in enough massive headliners for a three-day run on short notice... If that were actually the case, they wouldn't be sitting around waiting until three weeks before the fest to announce a zero day... They're just gambling here...

And as for the venue itself? They could've handed that over for free if they wanted to....

If anyone botched this, it was the Coachella organizers.

If you're going to pretend to be a major, serious festival, you don't rely on the tactic of "maybe they'll just give it to us for free." You either negotiate way ahead of time or you plan from day one knowing you'll likely have to pay the venue rental. You don't wait until less than a month before the event to realize you have no clue when the festival is even happening or who you can actually call.

As for those crying babies running around whining about democracy because Dragan Čović won't give them a free ride... honestly, it's pathetic.

It rubs me the wrong way when people accuse the city's municipal holding company of just trying to squeeze profit out of the festival. And then you have the organizers acting like they’re running the whole thing purely out of the goodness of their hearts... which is a bit much. That said, I really wish they'd bring back zero day.

It’s been a minute since I’ve heard them play, but man, they’re actually pretty good. I really hope they manage to snag a decent time slot this time around.

Beats, Rage Against the Machine, The Roots, Overflow, The Rolling Stones... they’ve pulled some pretty solid names from the local scene—which, honestly, hits my specific niche perfectly—but then they completely missed the mark with the headliners. Maybe I was being a bit too much, holding out for someone like System of a Down or Foo Fighters, but still... I was really banking on one massive, high-octane rock band to anchor the whole thing. If it weren't for Arcade Fire, I probably wouldn't even be looking at a ticket right now, though I'm still weighing it up. There is a part of me that genuinely wants to see them live. It feels a bit calculated, though; as someone pointed out earlier, Dragaš seems to be shaping this entire lineup through his reviews—he writes a piece on AF, they book them, then suddenly he’s reviewing the new Luka Belania album just days after announcing his appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
