Wow. That sounds absolutely incredible! Is anyone else looking to pick up two tickets for both days of the festival?😢 I think I'm going to pass.

Honestly, I'm only heading out there for that one specific day to catch Cypress Hill at the Ultra Music Festival...

I’m seriously starting to think about selling my ticket. I mean, things kicked off strong enough with Arcade Fire, Jack White, and TV on the lineup, but everything they added after that—well, it’s just straight-up terrible. Everything else is a disaster.
Arcade Fire actually outdid System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine, and honestly, maybe even the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They haven't quite reached the level of U2 or AC/DC yet, but they're getting close. By booking Arcade Fire, they proved they can snag the hottest band of the summer. But then you look at Gentleman and Cypress Hill and it proves they've never actually hosted a serious festival. That Kraftwerk/Moby/N.E.R.D. combo was one of a kind.😢

I think we can all agree on that (even if I don't personally vibe with RHCP or U2). I just don't get why American festivals keep pivoting toward the underground. Like, Ultra Music Festival goes indie, Hartera goes electro... It's stuff that only a few thousand Americans or Canadians actually listen to. Why not host a massive World Stage type event? What was missing for The Prodigy, Serj Tankian, or Franz Ferdinand? They might not be the absolute peak of the music scene, but they're definitely on the right track.

Personally, I felt the Nick Cave and The Prodigy combo hit much harder. I still can't quite wrap my head around why everyone loved N.E.R.D. so much back then, but man, that year was incredible regardless. We also had Franz Ferdinand, YYY, and Tricky on the bill.
#2227 ·
I honestly don't get why everyone is constantly coming for Cypress Hill. What's the big deal? 🤷
#2228 ·
What is the status regarding that extra (or perhaps third) day at the Ultra Music Festival? Apparently, a decision was supposed to be reached this Monday concerning whether the city council would approve the additional funding required... and word is, that entire extra day hinges on that single outcome.
Monday has come and gone, yet we remain completely in the dark...

Oh, totally. YYY, Tricky, Franz Ferdinand—that's basically a list of icons right there. N.E.R.D. put on a solid show, but the real issue was that about 70% of the crowd was just standing there wondering, "Who even is N.E.R.D.?"
@ Andrew Roberts3 - I've got nothing against Cypress Hill, and nothing against Billy Idol either. Honestly, back in the day, those guys were absolutely king. Cypress Hill's first two albums sit somewhere between greatness and a total masterpiece, but then they just steadily declined, and for the last 10 years, they've been completely irrelevant. Same goes for Billy Idol over the last decade or so. What's the point of those names if they aren't even hitting anymore?

Roger Newman50 said:What’s the deal with that extra (maybe third?) day at Ultra Music Festival? Word on the street was that by Monday, City Hall would decide if they were going to charge us an extra fee or not... and apparently, that whole extra day was riding on that decision.
Monday came and went, and we're still totally in the dark...
And who even shows up to play? Is it gonna be Kawasaki 3p and Earth, Wind & Fire?

It seems to me that "Day Zero" depends entirely on whether they've booked someone worth actually hosting a pre-party for. A decision has definitely been made, but the organizers are playing it close to the chest—or rather, they just haven't officially signed anyone yet!
Personally, I think Cypress Hill is totally fine. Even though I'm not much of a hip-hop head, they’re easily one of my favorite acts in that genre because of how they blend it with rock. Plus, there's a bit of nostalgia there; they were my absolute favorites back in my awkward teenage years. XD
I was just sitting here thinking about how Ultra Music Festival keeps missing the mark. Lollapalooza already booked Asian Dub Foundation... would it have killed the organizers to bring them out instead?

It’s almost like people would just say, "Oh, but they already played!" 🙄
I mean, would it really kill you to just stop fighting for once?
BI 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
edit: Man, I feel so bad for Jella—now that I think about it, I'm actually really bummed I missed seeing them last year! 😢

I'm with you, Morgan Palmer2 is totally overreacting here. People are gonna think there's actually some huge scandal going on instead of just a grumpy customer complaining about the service 🤷
And honestly, regarding Asian Dub Foundation, the smartest move for the guys running Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival would be to market them like this:
Asian Dub Foundation feat. Ali Rumjen (ex. King Prawn)
...I bet way more people would make the trip out to Austin if they saw his name on the lineup 😁

Finally, you seem to me...
Look, just go watch some TV or something. It’s clear to me that hanging out on this forum is getting way too under your skin—or at least, it’s getting under mine. Believe me, I don't exactly have any love lost on you either, but I'm not quite blunt enough to call you a total jerk to your face.

Jesse Sanchez60 said:I agree, Morgan Palmer2, you're really overdoing it. People are going to think there's more to this than just some disgruntled customer venting... 🤷
Given that he signed up at the start of the year and only posts in this specific thread—and exclusively to talk trash—it’s not hard to imagine there’s something more to it...
#2236 ·
I feel the same way about this year's lineup—it's pretty underwhelming. But I don't see why people need to keep pointing it out constantly.😬
There really is a concert for everyone out there... if you don't find what you like at Ultra Music Festival, you can always hit up a different festival. These days, traveling for shows isn't some huge luxury anymore.

They aren't quite at the level of U2 or AC/DC yet, but they're getting there. By booking them, they proved they can snag the most sought-after headliner of the summer. As for Gentleman and Cypress Hill, I guess they showed that those acts just don't really fit a major serious festival. That whole Kraftwerk/Moby/N.E.R.D. combo was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. 😢
So, regarding this Arcade Fire talk—I’m hearing about them for the first time now, mostly just because you claimed they’re better than RATM. Honestly, I have no idea what you're talking about. You're comparing a one-hit wonder band that people will likely forget by next year (think along the lines of Franz Ferdinand or Kaiser Chiefs, though I did catch both of them live) to legends like Rage Against the Machine or System of a Down. Those guys sell out massive reunion tours and have hundreds of thousands of die-hard fans, especially RATM. And yeah, RATM was actually the top choice for Lollapalooza fans last year, and since the organizers couldn't make it happen, they're basically the main target for Coachella now... if not already.
P.S. For me, the absolute peak lineup had to be The Prodigy, Serj Tankian, and ADF..
#2238 ·
Maybe Arthur Garcia59 thought AF had actually overtaken them in popularity. SOAD and RATM only stayed relevant because they were away for so long—now everyone’s starving for a reunion—whereas Arcade Fire is likely one of the most sought-after bands on the planet right now.

I AM TOTALLY WITH YOU ON THIS!!! 😳 😳 😳

We’re back at it again with the math games. Look, RATM is going to cost at least seven times more than AF—it's just basic economics. Any kind of break-even point for an act like RATM would require a venue way bigger than Central Park. So, realistically? You aren't ever going to see them play here.
AF is actually a pretty decent pick. Maybe the issue lies elsewhere in the lineup.
