I'm totally pressed for time because I’ve got a midterm in less than five hours, but I just had to jump on here and set the record straight!
Adam Moore said:The editors🤮

But honestly? It wasn't even that intense—the guy actually seemed to sober up once he hit the stage!😁

edit: Oh, and I should probably mention—I can't even begin to describe my experience at Brooklyn. He played Ace of Spades😕 🙂 and right after that, I heard the news that Michael Jackson had passed away.😕 😕

I was already buzzed after three drinks, then I just sat by the lake listening to how boring they were 🙄

It’s a bit surprising that nobody brought up the editors; they were honestly top-tier, though I can't quite wrap my head around why so few people mentioned them.

I finally sat down and listened to those last few tracks by Art Brut.👍

After that, nothing really grabbed my attention—just a bunch of filler, some snacks, and then heading home.

I just ended up getting annoyed by the crowd jumping all over me (mind you, I wear glasses), because they heard some heavy beats in his set and suddenly thought they were being all "cool"... 🙄 Honestly—they bumped my elbow a few times. ☕

What were you even doing there?? It was a pretty dull day, just way too much loud, obnoxious nerd energy for my taste. I don't exactly love those types, but I showed up to listen and then just wandered around killing time until Brooklyn and that other act started. They were about an hour and a half late, which is fine, whatever, but it’s weird to me—the guy has seven albums under his belt and then he spends his set singing covers, maybe twice if I remember right. That doesn't make any sense to me. The best move he made, though, was jumping into the crowd during the encore—that was the highlight of the day. While I was wandering around, I hit up the 101stage where they were playing some dubstep; that was decent enough until they started cranking out this reggae stuff that I seriously can't stand listening to outside. All in all, I probably could have skipped the second day entirely.

uh, what a weird day

n.e.r.d. - yeah, okay, less talking and more music would've been better, especially since they ended things with a corporate sponsor shoutout *
s. garcia - nothing, zero, zilch
antrax - everything was fine, I guess, but I only really caught two things before those "how can you even listen to this?" guys pulled me away ***
moby - Simple Minds is a band name, right? But I'm pretty sure this guy's just doing his thing. When you're in a place like Chicago, you might not find anything super profound in this stuff, but it's fun enough
tricky aka miso kovac 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙂

The organization was great, honestly, except they totally botched the sound at the main stage. And that actually matters quite a bit. Dammit. Also, shove a $12 kebab up your ass.

Hmm... I’m honestly glad people liked Brooklyn, but I don't quite get the hype. Just to be clear, I came here specifically for him. I've been following his career for ten years, and the man on that stage wasn't the Brooklyn I know and love. I was right there in the front row, just staring in disbelief. I really don't see why having Ace of Spades was even necessary. Even if you argue the sound system was terrible, I think the real reason the performance fell apart was because he looked like he was high out of his mind—just a complete wreck. I actually left before the set ended because I couldn't bear to watch him anymore. I felt incredibly sad. It wasn't about the money I wasted or the long wait for the show to start; it was just heartbreaking to see him like that.

Was this my big emo moment? 😢

Kyle Wilson74 said:The organization was actually surprisingly decent... which caught me off guard. However, it seems they completely overlooked the fact that human beings occasionally need to use the restroom, and typically prefer doing so in designated facilities...

Lily Allen is just plain underwhelming. You go in expecting catchy pop hooks, but instead, you get this frustrated, pretentious teenager who genuinely believes everything is fine as long as she’s losing weight. And honestly, the crowd was unbearable. A bunch of drunk fifteen-year-olds spent the whole night shrieking each other's names—"AAAAA, Baaaarbaaararaa, you're here!"—to the point where we had to remind them several times that the stage is in front of them, not behind. They were practically nesting in the aisles... I finally had to snap at them with a "One more move like that and you're all out," just to get some peace...

I don't give a damn about all the nitpicking and commentary on how things were written... there were hundreds of bigger shows than this one, weren't there?...

As for the second half of that quote, I honestly think that concert and the artist were curated specifically for Baaaarbaaararaa and her circle... not for some thirty-year-old fossils... 😉 Who do you think you are? Acting like some kind of tough guy just because you can't hear Lily Allen over the crowd... pathetic... 🙏 🙏 🙏

Anyway...

Art Brut is charming enough, but their songs are mostly just tedious. I liked that track about modern art and maybe one or two others following it, but the rest was just filler. The highlights of the set were definitely those bits where they riffed on serial killers and Iggy Pop.
Editors were absolute garbage. I honestly don't know how that guy manages not to die laughing mid-song—or does he just have no idea how to sing? Mimicking someone else is just pathetic. God help us...
God Dethroned is a solid outfit. They play decent, legitimate death metal with some tasteful guitar work and good tracks about World War I. I actually enjoyed them!
Anthrax was hit or miss. The new singer looks like he’s from a rough neighborhood in Jersey; it bugged me at first, but I adjusted quickly. He seems a bit dim, but he hits the belladonna and thrash notes well enough, even if he does bear a slight resemblance to Phil Anselmo with those buck teeth. Everything was great until those assholes at the end tried to wrap up the show after FIFTY dead MINUTES 🙏 then the promoter somehow forced an encore. They played "Got the Time" and "Room for One More" half-assed and called it a night... I mean, an hour of music, and they choose to end the gig with a song from one of their three least popular albums? They could have at least squeezed in "Among the Living" to close it out. What a joke...
Afterward, my wife headed over to Brooklyn, so I tagged along to see her and check out the band. Why does Brooklyn sound like a gritty Off-Broadway theater production? 😕 I expected bass, mumbling, darkness, drugs, and angst—just generic rock music at its worst. I haven't followed their whole career, but the two or three albums I’ve heard sounded nothing like this mess last night... I thought about checking my phone since I think the frontman is alright, but the screaming from that woman kept me at a safe distance. We grabbed a few more beers, toasted to Michael Jackson and Farrah, and headed home tired but happy. Overall, I only liked three metal bands and one punk band at the festival. My musical taste is maturing beautifully 👍

First, let me quote one guy from the forums: "How many songs by this absolute garbage pile do I have to sit through before my hatred feels justified? 😳" Well, I saw him later on some other thread. 😁 Anthrax absolutely tore it up—honestly, they were as crisp as a fresh Coca-Cola compared to the white noise coming from God Dethroned. Speaking of which, I’m seriously losing my mind over their mix; it's like they have no clue how to actually use a limiter, a compressor, or any of the basic tools required to do their damn jobs properly.
I have a special kind of disdain for these types who act like they just stepped out of a niche Philosophy seminar at Berkeley—guys who wander around aimlessly with all this intense existential fervor because they're playing festivals, yet can't even say the word "funk" without looking like they're having a neurological event. Yeah, I'm talking about Editors. Though, to be fair, their lead singer has three (3!) Rickenbacker guitars to channel that whole para-post-4AD sound, so... fine, maybe they're halfway forgiven.
Moby was alright, though admittedly a bit irritating despite having such a massive wall of sound. Honestly, I’m fed up with that overdubbed soulful vocals layered over the matrix; it’s driving me nuts. And frankly, I'm sick of the matrix itself.
As for Tricky, he was so spaced out it was actually painful to watch. Between the "Ace of Spades" vibes and the constant mumbling, his performance had all the consistency of a bad case of food poisoning. I just can't deal with it.

On a brighter note, huge props to the organizers this year for the shuttle buses, moving the wristband exchanges outside the main entrance area, and providing plenty of coupon stations for beer and snacks.

Even if you ignore the terrible sound quality, I think the real reason the performance sucked was that he looked as high as a kite—just a total wreck. I actually left before the end because I couldn't watch him anymore. I was incredibly sad, though. Not about the money I blew or waiting around for the set to start, but just because I couldn't bear to see him like that.

Was that my big emo moment? Maybe. 😢

That's a totally fair take. I haven't listened to him in a decade (or however long since that first album and whatever else), so I don't have that deep emotional connection (😁). But even though he’s basically become a flycatcher now, the band is still solid. If only the sound system had actually worked.

I mean, I still had a pretty good time myself. It was interesting. And what's wrong with "Ace of Spades"? Sure, maybe it didn't need to be played twice, but still.

We definitely didn't need more Motörhead covers at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, but I'm honestly scratching my head over why they chose 'Ace of Spades.' The band itself was absolutely killer, but you could tell from the stage presence that they haven't been touring with him for very long. Also, does anyone happen to know who that woman singing backup was? I had a hunch it might have been Kehlani, but I can't find any photos online that confirm it.

Heh. Don't blame me. After two seconds of that drum machine intro, I knew we needed to bail. Once the guy started leaning into the mic, acting all overly dramatic like he was the lead singer of Joy Division, we realized it was time to go grab some burgers and find some actual metal instead. We didn't even make it fifteen seconds into the first song.

Like we discussed later—metal can be bad, but at least it isn't painful to listen to or watch.

I just don't get how that guy doesn't feel embarrassed. I mean, swaying back and forth is one thing, but he's singing like he's Curtis, hanging off the mic, doing the whole bit... it's just much.

Anthrax would have left a much better impression if they hadn't turned into total amateurs forty-five minutes into the set. You took the money, so just play the damn songs. That "refused" cover was trash.🙏

The festival’s announcement: "Who wants to hear some reggae music?"
absolutely nobody.
The highlight of the whole thing? Anthrax 🙂 (they played two songs and I was out—honestly, that was probably more metal than I’ve ever experienced in my entire life.)

I can't exactly call a ninety-minute delay "good organization." The headliner was running over an hour behind schedule, and then they only got about fifteen minutes of stage time because The Editors were basically shouting them down. It just doesn't feel like things were handled well. Some parts were fine, I suppose, but others were a mess. For instance, they really could have hired a proofreader to check those few sentences scrolling on the displays; instead, almost every single one was riddled with typos. Their literacy seems to be about as organized as their scheduling.

Long live the fried dough!

The lineup 🙂 we heard two songs while running from The Editors. Those two tracks were nothing more than local trash and some outdated anthem. How much of an idiot do you have to be to think that back in 2009, anyone was actually "proving" anything 🙏 🙏 🙏

It was actually better than previous years. Still feels kind of soulless, honestly—kind of giving me those local county fair vibes—but overall, it’s a massive step up from before. Way bigger crowds this time, too. And thankfully, no rain.
Last night, even the sponsor decided to play hero, handing out blankets and pink Santa Claus hats.
Kraftwerk was solid on the first day, but having only half a show per day was a total bummer. Franzi was good. I'm big on YYYs, but man, that had to be one of the worst gigs in the country lately. The sound quality was absolute garbage. Just as bad as that Tricky set the day before.
N.E.R.D. still has those two killer tracks that make you want to jump off the ceiling.
Now I can't even remember what else I caught.
I'm pretty skeptical about whether we should sign that Grk guy; I doubt anyone would cough up a million bucks a year for him. Might be better to just stick with Mandžo.

Listen up, folks! 🙂

The main issue was how the hosts were handing them out—just tiny little portions at a time. It felt like a setup just so Bernard Cvek could stroll through with his wife (and honestly, is he even straight?) while everyone else had to settle for two measly little bags of Nutri in their hands. 🙏 🙏 🙏 I mean, do you have any idea who you're dealing with here? 🙏 🙏

But hey, look on the bright side: at least they didn't have those obnoxious text messages popping up on the screens, making everyone act like some kind of wannabe comedians just to be annoying.
