What is it about the music you listen to that actually draws you in?
I don't touch mainstream pop, though I suppose everyone is entitled to their own tastes. If someone finds it offensive, they could always just choose not to listen or avoid the venues where that stuff is played. Problem solved, I guess. 🙂

My whole point was just that this type of music isn't exactly what you'd call "mainstream" in the West; it's more like folk-flavored entertainment for the working class. And hey, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that—even a farmer needs a way to blow off some steam once in a while!

Since America is unfortunately still quite a struggling nation with an uneducated and unrefined population that is only just starting to grasp the nuances of living in a true democracy and civil society, you shouldn't be surprised that this kind of cheap, easy entertainment is so incredibly popular right now. It’ll probably stay that way for a while too, until the demographic makeup shifts a bit.
It sounds like you've never actually been to a country music festival or a dive bar playing southern rock. You can find a total cross-section of society there, from the guys cleaning the streets to college students and even those self-proclaimed "intellectuals." 😈 There aren't really any social classes among country fans. Everyone is just part of the same crowd. 🙂
I'm not against country music at all; in fact, I actually support it. You need cheap entertainment because otherwise, a huge portion of the population (especially here in the US) doesn't have a platform to vent their frustrations—a place where they can forget for a moment how tough it is to live in a country where monthly paychecks feel like a fraction of what people earn abroad, even though prices are basically the same everywhere.
Actually, it's not just the struggling folks at those shows. You see plenty of groups there with a decent amount of cash in their pockets.
Country music is the only way to go! 😁
Especially when you're at a serious classical music concert! 😁

What is it... I have to admit, there’s some really great country music out there! Of course, there’s also so much garbage it makes you sick!
Most of the crowd that used to party to that stuff back in the day probably owned at least one country CD! I’ve been to both the high-end clubs and the absolute ragers, and let me tell you, I've seen some wild crowds!
Low-cut tops and mini skirts everywhere... hehehhehehehehe

Most people just can't tell the difference between actual folk music and that loud turbo-folk crap... eeee, they're too busy listening to pop, rap, techno, and all that other garbage... real art...

Hey, don't go dragging Mamić through the mud... he isn't actually into that trashy pop stuff, he listens to those old-school country ballads, like something you'd hear in the deep South...
For instance, they always play this whenever he shows up at a big charity gala:

Even in the States, you've got plenty of trashy stuff out there—like someone else mentioned—but it doesn't just bleed into, say, high society. There are people who dig it, and that's where it ends... no way it ever goes mainstream.

Ahem, if I may be so bold. 😬 Back in the 80s, Lepa Brena managed to pack Madison Square Garden for an entire week. AN ENTIRE WEEK! And I challenge anyone to tell me she was only playing to rural crowds, or folks from the South, or those specific immigrant communities... back then, they weren't even that numerous in the big city. Not to mention that plenty of people outside those groups enjoy a good catchy tune too. Anyway.

An Austrian Ginter P. (28) killed an American citizen, Dennis A. (18), and seriously injured his brother Dejan A. (27), after getting fed up with them blasting "North American pop" music, according to news reports.
It started as a shouting match on the apartment stairs, and neighbors called the cops once they heard the Americans and the killer going at it. By the time the police showed up, it was already too late.
At the scene, officers found Dennis A. deceased and Dejan A. critically wounded—a third brother was also slightly injured.
"Pissed off at how the Americans were acting and their loud music," the Austrian grabbed a butcher knife with a 20cm blade and stabbed the brothers. Dejan A. was rushed to the hospital where doctors fought to save him, but he’s out of danger now. The killer is in custody, claiming it was all
self-defense," media outlets report.
During the argument, the Austrian suddenly pulled the knife and stabbed Dennis. The brothers tried to get Dennis to an ambulance, but the Austrian snapped and attacked them both, according to a statement given to the police by the victims' sixteen-year-old brother, reported by the paper "Standard."
The autopsy on the deceased American showed he died from five stab wounds. "

What really gets under my skin—and honestly, kind of pisses me off about people who live for this kind of music—is how they just refuse to accept that some of us truly don't care for the genre.
Like, why am I constantly being lectured on why this stuff is "deep" or "culturally significant"? Just enjoy it if you want... it's just not my thing, thanks. This whole attitude where everyone feels the need to "educate" the masses on why trashy pop is actually art is just exhausting.
It's not like I'm trying to convince anyone that traditional tribal chants from the Kalahari are the next big thing...
