I suppose this morning's listen to the new Franz Ferdinand was likely my last attempt at enjoying them. Probably. They sound even worse than their previous work... there isn't anything particularly catchy about it, and I found the whole thing rather tedious.

It strikes me that Franz Ferdinand managed to sidestep the sophomore slump entirely. This record feels incredibly well-constructed—honestly, I’d argue it actually surpasses their debut. On first listen, there’s a distinct Jam influence, though they carry themselves with a bit more buoyancy. If we're stuck listening to this whole New Wave revivalist movement, then FF isn't such a bad bet, despite my initial skepticism after hearing the last album. All things considered, I think FF sits well above some of those trendy British bands people won't shut up about today; they feel right in line with someone like The Bluetones back during their *Expecting to Fly* era, before everything went south for them. Nothing more, nothing less.

Here it is, let's see what everyone thinks.

Honestly, a buddy of mine recently pitched me on Death Disco—it’s easily five hundred times more entertaining and engaging than FF...

My god, it’s a total rip-off of Gift🙂 if my ears aren't deceiving me. It's the exact same mix, the exact same guitar tones.

I wouldn't really dream of comparing Death disco to Franz Ferdinand. I mean, those guys actually know how to write a catchy pop song, whereas we... well, maybe not quite yet 🙂

Not quite. I just don't tolerate people attacking mali šumski prijatelj. If mali šumski prijatelj says an album misses the mark because it lacks hits, then that’s just their honest take.🙂

I've listened to about half the album; it's pleasant enough. It hasn't hit me as hard as the first one, though we'll see how it holds up later...

As it stands, I actually like Death disco much more as people than as a band.🙂

Yeah, but FF's bassist isn't exactly jamming with a damn bulldozer.

Honestly, the easiest way to snag those demos is just to hunt me down on Soulseek—you already know my handle. I can probably hook you up with some FLAC files or even just smaller OGG files. Since the demo isn't that long, it should download pretty quickly...

... but their new material (DD) is miles ahead of the first outing anyway, and I'm certain they'll only keep getting better. 🙂
