Guys seem to dig it... doesn't hit you right away, but by the tenth listen 😁😁... so I played the first one again just to compare, and honestly, this one holds its own. I think I'll head out to see them live, whatever happens. 🙂

Why do people feel this constant, desperate need to constantly compare the debut to the sophomore effort?

Well, in this case, it’s because they only have two 😁... the thing is, there’s an actual creator behind an album. Albums don't just fall out of the sky. They serve as a roadmap for everything—the highs, the lows, the creative burnout. If the artists themselves aren't feeling it, they can always just drop an album under a pseudonym.

So, look, I asked why you guys feel this constant need to play the first and second albums against each other. It’s not even because I think people are idiots—it's just that it never once crossed my mind to compare anything to their previous stuff...

To me, an album is just good, bad, amazing, sexy, boring, annoying, whatever.

It never occurs to me like, "Man, I really miss 'Tell Her Tonight' on this new record."
If I want to hear "Tell Her Tonight," I'll just go listen to it.
If I want the new stuff, I listen to the new stuff.
I listen to music based on how I want to feel in the moment. Period.

Sometimes that means Linkin Park.

It seems like you don't take music too seriously, which is probably why you don't feel the need to compare albums. For me, music is music—it's not just background noise for partying or hooking up, though everything is better with it, obviously. I listen to it for what it is, and I like to put things in context. I'd never say it's just music, but I won't go on about it since I'm already being way too emo 😁

If I remember right, you're into Radiohead. Me too. But I respect them a lot more knowing they started out making totally conventional stuff before they had the guts to record Kid A. Honestly, Kid A would be just as great if they'd later pivoted to sounding like Maroon 5, but I’d definitely have a different opinion of the band itself.

And if someone brings it up—even if they frame it as a question—you can't exactly tell them they're being stupid, can you? It's all pretty subjective, so there's no need to be such a 😉
