Nicholas Perez33, I was wondering—has anyone ever actually called you by that name before?🙂 🙂

Some young, scruffy sailor last night, I suppose, but honestly, everything is such a blur; I don't remember much. My back is killing me from sitting down like this.😁

Velvet girl said:And why does everyone keep saying, "You just don't get Nirvana"?? Like, what is so damn deep about them that needs "getting"?? It was just three albums where they basically played around with their instruments because they were bored!
And yeah—if everyone started getting all worked up and trying to "fix" themselves the second some old man gets a divorce... God help us all!🙂

Look, I’m not here to talk shit, but honestly? Every single Nirvana fan I’ve run into lately is exactly the same—they worship Cobain like he was some kind of god. It’s getting old. Nobody ever wants to point out that the guy was just your run-of-the-mill junkie. And let’s be real, there are plenty of those out there.🙄 😕

So what, what if he were Black or Jewish? You hate them too, then??? Look, little fish—addiction is an actual disease. And God forbid you end up with diabetes or just some basic diarrhea (though maybe that's not the worst thing ever)—would you actually *want* people constantly throwing your illness in your face like this? Though, I guess in the case of diarrhea, having people "hit on you" because of it isn't exactly... well, khm... yeah.
It honestly feels like Nirvana has this deep-seated hatred for Jesus.😁 He spent his time idling around—preaching, healing, all that—just to show people how primitive they actually are. It’s kind of like how Nirvana—those half-educated guys just killing time—managed to flip the entire world upside down, while the actual virtuosos and musical intellectuals are still stuck at home, frustrated, just scribbling away in their notebooks.
Look, Ribica—just hang in there. Keep being patient, because if you hold out just a little longer, you might actually start using your head...👋

First off... looks like I was the first one to start trashing Nirvana, so might as well see this through to the end...

Look, Timothy Jones85, I couldn't care less about Nirvana or who they influenced. It doesn't move the needle for me. If they influenced every band I listen to, then cool, but honestly, I don't give a damn.

It’s just hilarious, and it always will be, watching you Nirvana zealots get all worked up whenever someone takes a swipe at your favorite band. Your go-to response is always the same: "You just don't get it!"...

See, that right there is what's funny to watch... even when hollowseal33 calls me stupid, even though she has no clue I'm just messing with everyone, including her...

Whatever... you make me sick and I make fun of you.
😁

Just one little question before I go;

Take a high school class in some major US city—not some rural town, an urban area—or maybe a group of college students. Just a typical group of 30 teenagers... and what do you get..??

Out of those 30;

5 of them have zero musical identity... they don't listen to anything, haven't heard of anything, they don't even know how to tune a radio station.

15 of them listen to Madonna-style crap... you know, that R&B, dance, mindless garbage...

Of the remaining 10.....

5 are rockers and five are the types pretending to be intellectuals.
The 5 pretenders—meaning they listen to hip hop or some extreme stuff like Norah Jones.

Now, of those 5 rockers;
1 is a punker
2 are actual rockers (who listen to everything)
1 is a grunge kid
And 1 is the guy trying to force his taste on everyone else...

Right?

So how the hell is one rock band supposed to flip the script? They can't, man. A change in fashion—just as an example—isn't going to change those 15 people listening to trash plus the 5 who just want to fit in because of Madonna, not because of Nirvana!
It's been like this since forever, and it's still like this... just with different anomalies.

And why do you guys think grunge was bigger than nu-metal?
By CD sales? I highly doubt it.
Just imagine if the Korn singer died under suspicious circumstances at the height of their fame, and for the next 10 years, there was this massive myth-making surrounding the band and the singer. Imagine them being branded one of the most influential acts of all time, repeated a million times, and then ten years later they drop a "Best Of" Korn album, remastered, with two unreleased tracks, some extras, photos... whatever...

You really think that wouldn't sell 50 million copies in the first month? Not a chance, man.

Or imagine if Nirvana had released two more crappy albums after in Utero... they would've faded into obscurity. Critics would've torn them apart, fans would've called them sellouts... and boom, goodbye.

You guys almost completely ignore the power of the media, which is huge in creating myths. The circumstances (the sketchy death), playing the martyr... the interesting life stories... and presto, you've got a polished product. The music itself is the least important part.

I mean, did Madonna ever call Korn three times begging them to work with her, or Prodigy? No.

And lines like "Nirvana is the biggest band since the Beatles"... please. That's just ignoring fifty years of history... it's ridiculous.

Besides, Nirvana didn't pave the way for alternative; The Clash and the punk movement did that long before them... especially The Clash.

Anyway, bye. All this fighting over nothing... you guys are pathetic...

😁 😁

Look, your logic is about as sharp as a high schooler's—but I'm mostly on board with what you're saying, except for one thing...

wiredfalcon2 said:or that Nirvana released another two subpar albums after in Utero...

in Utero is definitely their best work

period.

for example—Magnetic Fields - Fear of Trains

Did I ever actually say *in Utero* wasn't their best record? Because I didn't.

Besides, I'm not some high school kid. I don't get why everyone's so triggered by teenagers and puberty. Honestly, that’s when your brain is actually firing on all cylinders. You can process info, think critically, learn more than at any other point...

maybe it's just that you're all too jealous?

but honestly, yours doesn't look much better either, considering I knew exactly what you were gonna say the second I typed my last thought...

man, I'm gonna have enough material for a psychology seminar to drown in. just piles of it... endless stuff...

thanks everyone, seriously... love you guys.

at least I won't have to spend all my time digging up what some "legendary" psychologists had to say a century ago just so I can tear them apart because some newer "big shots" found flaws in their work...

long live Freud!
😁

nah, alright, maybe that burst of euphoria hit me a little too hard just now.... things will settle down.

haha.

help those in need

wiredfalcon2 said:The lead singer of Korn supposedly took his own life at the peak of his fame under some pretty shady circumstances. Then, for the next decade, the industry just manufactured this whole myth about the band and the guy, pushing them as one of the most influential acts ever. They ran that narrative a million times just so ten years later they could drop a "Best Of" compilation—you know the drill: remastered tracks, two unreleased songs, a bunch of random filler, and some old photos...

Yeah, right. If my foot fits, I'll wear it.

You know what the funniest part is? It's totally obvious you got triggered by something and now you're trying to play it off like you were just trolling us. Lame, dude.

Or, as I like to put it, you would have been a legendary troll, but unfortunately, I've met you and I know you're actually being dead serious.

Now, regarding this latest post where you actually seem to have put some thought into it... once I strip away all that self-importance you pack into your posts...

I still don't agree with most of it (Grunge definitely beats Nu-Metal; if that guy from Korn dropped dead right now, he still wouldn't earn the respect of anyone over 18, because one real rock band CAN change everything... ) though I do agree with a few points (that Beatles comparison was a reach, and someone really needs to start writing songs for Madonna.)

And hey, if that's the best you can do, I still think you're an idiot.

It’s all just one big mess because people keep blurring the lines between "music" and the "entertainment industry." Maybe Nirvana wasn't some massive musical revolution—personally, they never really clicked for me—but they became huge names in the entertainment business, basically becoming household names like Madonna. Is that where the actual scale and influence come from? They blew up in the industry while staying true to their sound? I don't know, but that's how I see the Beatles (who I absolutely adore) when people try to compare them...
So why did that happen with Nirvana but not Pixies? Honestly, I think the Pixies are a hundred times better, but Nirvana didn't become such a hyped-up band solely because of their music—it was a specific set of circumstances... probably the end of the century (I spent most of the nineties in total hibernation anyway, so who knows)

It’s honestly wild how people tend to idolize those who finally broke and took their own lives... and then they turn those tragedies into these massive myths
while the ones who actually stood their ground and survived get nothing but criticism...

The whole concept behind grunge 😁 is fine in theory, but it's just not sustainable...
Besides, why should I bother listening to what people with completely fractured psyches have to say about the world today? No way...

Kevin Chavez3 :
Has anyone ever told you what an arrogant prick you are?

np Ramones - We're a happy Family

Yeah. I mean... plenty of people. Yeah. I get it.
but mostly just on forums... you know how it is. I'm just some frustrated kid who acts cocky online because in real life I'm just a total pushover. Plus I'm an introvert. This is where I vent, play the genius, act superior—it's my total alter ego.

So now you know. Cool?

@ hollowseal33; yeah, you caught me. I fell right into your trap, acted like a complete brat, I admit it. Honestly though, I couldn't care less.
And what exactly was the trap?
My plan was just to provoke you guys under the assumption that you'd react exactly the way you did. Mission accomplished.
On another note, I've got a seminar with Professor Miller over at the state university, thanks for asking. The TA hasn't even decided what we need for the mandatory paper yet, thanks for asking, you can basically pick any topic and have some psychologist analyze it. That's where my "plan" from a few lines up meets my actual schoolwork.

And I see you're out here judging people based on a thirty-minute drunken encounter at a dive bar where we barely exchanged three sentences. Or did you mistake me for someone else?
hm... anyway... what does that even mean, flamer? I haven't been on forums long enough to catch all the jargon, so, be so kind and explain it to your "I still think you're an idiot" friend.

And no, this isn't the best I can do.
Thank God.

Had to drive my kid all the way across town to the speech therapist—thirty minutes each way—so I just threw on some In Utero and went for it (it’s basically all I own from them anyway). Once again, just like the first two times I listened, I've come to the conclusion that Nirvana is just... meh. Look, there are good tracks—Frances Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle and all that—but honestly? Not enough for me. Without getting into any deep sociological stuff—because let's face it, I'm totally unqualified—or even musical analysis (I'm clueless there too, but whatever)—there are really only two ways to look at this:
1) Nirvana fans tend to ignore the fact that The Stooges were killing it back in the sixties, not to mention Pixies
2) I just don't get Nirvana
And I'm perfectly fine with "not getting it" being a totally valid stance. It's like how I don't understand ballet—that doesn't make ballet any less valuable. Not everyone has to "get" everything.h
