quietbison86 said:Wait, why hasn't anyone even mentioned Paris Hilton yet? Is she just totally excluded from the conversation because people don't view her as an "actress" despite everything she brings to the table? 🤣

Look, she was never top-tier, let alone elite. Honestly, even Jessica Alba was mostly just a cover girl for those men's magazines—nothing more, nothing less.

Paul Anderson7 said:Let's stay focused here. That woman is never going to be recognized as an actress. We're talking about the A-list elite.

Roger Martin3 said:As Paul Anderson7 suggests—and I find myself inclined to agree—we are dealing with actors who are vastly overrated, wildly overpriced, and occasionally, quite frankly, undeserving of an Oscar. I have no idea who this "Hiltonica" person is supposed to be, but I can assure you, she is certainly not an actress.

I feel compelled to touch upon Gwyneth Paltrow—honestly, I just can't wrap my head around it. It will never, ever make sense to me why she was awarded an Oscar for *Shakespeare in Love*. In my estimation, she had one truly standout performance in *Sliding Doors*, and that’s really where it ends. She strikes me as a fairly mediocre actress, all things considered.

Alright, fine, I totally misread the prompt. My bad. 😁
So, the Black Raspberry Criterion and those trash "actors" are out of the running. 😉

There's plenty of trash actors out there; they just didn't get that big Hollywood push.

Give her all five points—there is absolutely no need to apologize! 🙂

We are here to critique actual actors, not some Hollywood byproduct.

It’s honestly tough to gauge how versatile an actor actually is—most of them are just stuck in these predictable archetypes. There's this massive industry machine working behind the scenes to craft a specific image, and every new script just reinforces it. When you hear there's a new Jason Statham or Jennifer Aniston flick coming out, you pretty much know what you're getting. Some people are decent at their jobs, others aren't... and rarely does anyone break out of that mold to prove they can handle different genres. That doesn't mean they're bad, just that they aren't exceptional. Hollywood loves to "reward" those types occasionally with a prestige role that sweeps the awards, and suddenly everyone is acting shocked at how brilliant the performance was. Before things like playing by the rules or Monster, Reese Witherspoon and Charlize Theron were basically just seen as blondes making movies for easy audiences. I am genuinely curious to see what Nymphomaniac will do for Shia LaBeouf.

A lot of people here have brought up comedy and actors like Sandler and Carey. Those guys—in my opinion—have some solid dramas in their filmography, but their comedies are a crime. I suppose it's because that style of humor just isn't for me; what Hollywood calls "funny" usually feels forced, unwatchable, and vulgar—mostly just bad...

Personally, I'm just not a fan of Keira Knightley. I've sat through several of her films and the impression is always the same—you're watching Keira Knightley the actress, rather than the actual character. It's nothing personal, she seems perfectly reasonable in interviews and all that, but what she does simply isn't acting. It's always that same frozen expression, a handful of repetitive facial movements to convey basic emotions, and that dry crying... It might have passed for her summer blockbusters like Pirate from the Caribbean, but I don't get why she's been pushed as a "serious" actress for years now, even landing an Oscar nomination... She's a bit better than most, I guess, but still... far from great.

Spot on observation. Seriously, she’s had that same, kind of boring stare for years now.🙄

Noah Ross7 said:I honestly think Eric Roberts is a total lost cause.🤷

Looking at these "new" guys like Shia LaBeouf, I mean, seriously, who the hell pushed him into Hollywood? 🙏
I bet he couldn't even pull off playing a member of the Secret Service. He’d probably just mess something up while trying to stand still.

As for the women, take Jennifer Lopez. She could have had anything with her music career, but having a great body doesn't make you a top-tier actress.

And what about her musical talent? Is that considered peak performance? 😁

On a separate note—I find Milla Jovovich to be a complete disappointment as an actress.

These two aren't exactly the talk of the town anymore, though just a few years back, Orlando Bloom and Hayden Christensen were inescapable—everywhere you looked. Neither one possesses actual talent or charisma; they’ve got looks, sure, but even that fades once the teenage fanbases grow up and some new pretty face hits the scene. It's just wooden acting, flailing at nothing, staring too intensely, overacting...

Hayden tanked pretty quickly, but for Bloom, the success from Lord of the Rings was a massive windfall—he cashed in on a string of blockbusters right after. Honestly, without Peter Jackson, I doubt he would have made a dent outside the United States. Plus, he tried to brand himself as this serious actor in historical action flicks, when he'd be much better suited for some light rom-com roles or TV adaptations of classic novels. I know critics have never been fans, but it's frankly shameful how much space he's been given at the expense of much better actors.

Then there are the "critically acclaimed" ones, like Natalie Portman. I hear everyone raving about how brilliant, talented, and amazing she is... but I just don't see it. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but all I see is an average, lifeless presence who plays the exact same character in the exact same way every single time. She has this specific expression when she tries to laugh—this grimace that makes it look like she's about to burst into tears at any second. She isn't terrible, per se, but she is definitely overrated. I mean, how did that woman even snag an Academy Award over Jennifer Lawrence in Winter Bone? 🤷

Ashton Kutcher-wannabe is just funny at this point. A completely irritating and exhausting individual.
Ben Affleck is just bland and boring; he plays the exact same role in every single movie.
Will Smith is decent enough, but in my opinion, he's massively overrated.
Nicolas Cage is lucky enough to star in great films, which masks his desperate, subpar acting.
Mila Kunis is a disaster. One word: hopeless. I have no idea who pushed her into this industry, but she is utterly talentless.
George Clooney is also, quite frankly, overrated.
Hugh Grant is unlikable; I can't stand him.
Vince Vaughn tries to use fast-talking to seem charming and funny, but it just has the opposite effect.
Matt Damon is the same story as Ben Affleck.

Mel Gibson is quite an underwhelming actor. He’s really only tolerable in Mad Max, where he doesn't have to rely on much dialogue to get his point across.

There are tons of them—honestly, probably too many to count—so I’ll just throw out a few of the worst modern ones that come to mind.

The gold standard for a bad actor is, obviously, Steven Seagal. That’s never going to change.

Then you’ve got the lovely Katherine Heigl, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lawrence (though she was actually great in SLP), followed by the awful Mila Kunis and Kristen Stewart, the irritatingly unfunny Adam Sandler, the talentless Arnold Schwarzenegger, those actor-wannabes Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal, the terrible Nicolas Cage, a pretty washed-out Vince Vaughn, and the catastrophic Ben Affleck.

I guess they all have their rare good roles here and there, but maybe I only see them that way because of the decent movies they happened to be in.

Oh, absolutely! The woman acts and looks like a boiled squid in vinegar!

Please tell me I'm not the only one feeling this way... 😁

Watching her is like sitting down to a bland, uninspired dinner; all the ingredients are technically there, everything follows the recipe perfectly, but it just lacks soul—it's missing that essential spark...

I don't even know where you're getting that from.

I think you're focusing way too much on his wild personal life instead of his actual acting. Look at his roles before 2000. Yeah, he's doing bad movies now and isn't exactly A-list anymore, but let's be real.
