Dennis Hall41 said:It isn't him—you can spot his presence immediately—but it’s me. Aside from the specific taste, the fonts, and the overall aesthetic they lean into, I’ve actually started recognizing which colleagues tend to drop their suggestions at certain times of the day... Vancha, Barib, and Jessica Morris6 are all regulars in my orbit, and I’m pretty certain I nailed Amanda Robinson4's suggestion too.

Mine is Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses (1993). How on earth did you guess that?

I'm with you—and honestly, I'm pretty damn low-key myself.😁 Same goes for the Quartet; if they hadn't signed their names, nobody would even realize it was them.😁

Kvart who? Anyone catch that? 🙄

Dennis Hall41 said:It’s definitely not him—you can spot his style instantly. But as for me, besides just knowing the taste, the fonts, and the vibe, I actually recognize which colleagues tend to drop their suggestions at certain times of the day! Lisa Davis46, Barib, and Jessica Morris6 are my regulars, and I’m pretty positive I nailed Puky's suggestion too.

Man, this is such a blast. Honestly, a pretty solid group regardless... 👍

Charles Ramos4 said:Honestly, even Ševa isn't much better. 😁 If he tried pulling that kind of sneaky camouflage stuff during a war, he’d be getting shot in five minutes flat—it's just too obvious.

Well, look, there are actually a few others that I could easily throw into the mix myself. I'll get around to mentioning them later. Right now, I’ve already got four sure things that are getting a vote, and honestly, I might end up with five.

Dennis Hall41 said:I’m right there with you—honestly, I’m incredibly low-key about all of this myself.😁 And honestly, if Kvart hadn't signed his name, there’s no way anyone would have ever realized it was actually him.😁

I mean, I honestly thought it might be him, you know? Especially since Gift produced one of my absolute idols—and he’s not even part of the Sisters. So yeah, I didn't list Gift there.

It’s already past midnight, so what are we waiting for, Puky? Where’s the poll at?

Look, the voting window is open for 48 hours anyway, so why wouldn't you give some unknown albums or the rest of the list a fair shake?

It’s pretty fun though—honestly a solid spin regardless of 👍

Solid? It's fine, that's all. Why? Because it hits the criteria we set—three folk/roots/singer-songwriter albums heard by eight people: Closing Time, Grace, and Muswell Hillbillies.
😁

I guess Bonnie Raitt could work too—haven't listened yet.

Edit — actually, screw that. Bonnie Raitt is nothing.😁

I can already spot at least five or six suggestions here just by looking—without even hitting play 😁

As for the rest? I’ll probably recognize them once I actually give them a listen

I can't keep up! On a slow day, I might manage three or four, maybe five, but that’s nowhere near enough for this many suggestions. So, I just end up voting based on what I already know. I actually just finished a documentary on Miles Davis and really feel like chatting about him. Most others didn't even get a fair shake... A whole week to listen? I'd probably drop at least five posts here in that time alone.

I honestly have way too many great albums on my hands this time around.
It’s a shame Miles' masterpiece is getting overshadowed...
🕺

It's tough, though. I guess at least 5 or 6 of these are making my top picks.

Don't get worked up about it 😁

See, the thing is, there are just so many suggestions floating around, and honestly, some albums are built that way—you can't just blast them once and say you've "heard" them. You have to sit with them, listen a few times to really catch the vibe. It’s totally normal that you won't get through everything. I already know some of these tracks inside and out, but with others... you’re just spinning your wheels trying to figure out what the deal is and how it all fits together, trying to learn the deeper layers...

Look, listen, we could totally set this up differently. Why not try a preliminary vote before the actual voting? Like, first, everyone submits an unlimited number of album picks, just like we do now, within a 24-hour window on Thursdays. Then, we hold a vote, and the top five albums with the most votes move on to a final showdown for Album of the Week. Problem solved. You only have to dive into those five specific albums over the next 24 hours, and even then, it's less work if you already recognize some of them and don't need to spend time discovering them from scratch.

I honestly think they should just hold off on any legal disputes until after the winner is actually announced. To me—honestly—it feels way more unfair to have all those lawsuits flying around before we even know who won.

So, I end up voting based on what I already know. I actually just watched a documentary about Miles Davis and I’d love to talk about him. But I haven't really given most others a chance yet. We need a week just to listen! If we did, I'd probably write at least five posts here during that week.

Well, if you feel like talking about him, just start a thread and write a proper review—whether it's for the album or Miles himself

Miles Davis, this isn't directed specifically at you, but I still don't get why some of you find it so hard to write a few sentences about an album or artist that actually moved you—someone you think deserves attention regardless of how this damn poll turns out. I can't believe some people are such slaves to these cursed votes, acting like winning this poll is the only thing that motivates them to post on this board. I guess it's on me since I'm always the one pushing for it, but I just had to get that off my chest. Again, 🙂

Nah, a poll just for the sake of polling... 😁

But hey, since this whole thread is all about being democratic, maybe we could slow things down a bit? Since there's so much interest lately, we could stretch the voting period to five days. But let's start that from the next round...

That way, we'd generally be moving at a slower pace and just doing the poll twice a month, which actually sounds like a pretty solid idea...

We should honestly organize this whole thing just like an American presidential election. First, we’d have the drummers, the rockers, the country fans, the metalheads, the punks, the jazz aficionados, the classical crowd, and everyone else pick their top five candidates locally. That would kick off our internal primaries to narrow down the field for the main album. Then, we move into a month-long campaign where everyone tries their hardest to convince the rest of us why their pick is the only one worth voting for... After that, there’d be a three-day pre-election media blackout, and then the big vote happens on a Sunday. In this system, the Album of the Week effectively becomes the Album of the Year. And, naturally, every album is strictly limited to two terms max.

I totally agree—there are way too many albums dropping for such a tiny window of time

I don't know how you guys manage, honestly, but I need to spin the same record at least three times before it actually clicks—you know? Like, I have to really live with it to fully grasp what’s going on. A lot of great stuff just doesn't hit right on the first listen, so it feels pretty stupid to just toss an album aside because it didn't blow your mind immediately, doesn't it?

In fact, most of the absolute masterpieces don't even register on the first pass—and that’s exactly why they’re so damn interesting in the first place.

I tend to work in a way where I can't really give a final verdict on an album until I've lived with it for a year or two—anything sooner feels a bit rushed to me. So, my suggestion would be to let the poll run for at least a year (if two years is overkill) and then decide which album we actually vote on.

Good grief, people—it's not like we're sitting on the Grammy voting committee or anything, so we don't need to sit through every single album three times over. I agree that most great albums (or songs) need multiple listens before things really click, but in this case, I think we're taking it to an extreme. Or, if there are too many suggestions, maybe we should just go back to that rule where the first ten people to sign up automatically become the nominees for that week...

I wouldn't put more than 10 on the table—honestly, I'd prefer keeping it exactly how it is right now, but since the voting is tied to whatever you actually listen to... maybe just half an album or something like that.

If anyone else hasn't cast their vote yet, well, I went ahead and decided on the three albums for the week. I just couldn't help myself; I had to pick from the frontrunners because, let's be real, every single one of them is special in its own damn way.😁
