In a Timeless Place

Since you all completely overlooked my last suggestion—Peter Murphy & Mick Karn (The Waking Hour), which is truly a masterpiece—I’m not placing huge bets on this next one. But hey, you never know, right?.....😁

Anne Dudley (The Art of Noise) & Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke) - Songs from the Victorious City (1990). It is such a singular collaboration... though unfortunately, it’s one of those gems that remains unfairly overshadowed by the main projects of these two incredible creative minds.

I'll cast my vote for Jaz; the guy is a straight-up genius.👍

Frank Ocean - Blonde This is his second and final studio LP (counting the visual album and the mixtape), pretty much his last major musical statement.
While his debut leaned into those classic R&B/soul vibes, this one feels more like an R&B/soul take on Radiohead’s Kid A. I know that’s a bit of a stretch, but you get what I'm saying, right?

Frank Ocean - Blonde (2016)

Where did everyone go? Is that it, just six albums?

Amanda Robinson4, you had a pretty weak start to the month. 🕺

Brian Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets (1974)

I guess Brian Eno didn't really hit it big during his last two stints. Maybe if he leaned more into that glam or art-rock vibe—you know, that semi-glitzy, half-glam stuff—he would've had better luck! 🙂 After he left Roxy Music, since he couldn't outsmart that other Bryan anymore, he went and made that killer album with Robert Fripp '(no pussyfooting)'... so he decided to fly solo with a few buddies, and that's how the debut 'Here Come the Warm Jets' ended up.

Anything involving Fripp usually turns out better (check that guitar solo at 1:26):

I’m going to allow myself a moment of strictly critical reflection regarding those Brian Eno albums suggested last week...

I mean, seriously, how can we just bypass his most revolutionary, pioneering ambient work every single time? We're talking about the absolute foundation of the genre—specifically Discreet Music (1975), and of course, the timeless classic Music for Airports (1978). It’s like skipping the main course at a five-star restaurant to go straight for the appetizers.😁

🕺

Yeah, it's November and everyone is just feeling blue. 😢

As for Brian Eno, I was just checking out whatever was trending on last.fm (since I didn't really have anyone to tell me where to dive in), and back then I stumbled onto Before and After Science (1977). For those of you who actually know your stuff, please hit me with some suggestions... hopefully I'll find something good eventually 😁

There are only two albums I’m absolutely certain won't get my vote, and one of them is a lock. 😲

Let's see what we've landed on.

Ruins of Beverast. Hmm, nope! Interesting intro, right up until the low growling kicks in.

Cymande, that afro-funk stuff 🙂 gets my vote.

Anne Dudley & Jaz Coleman 🙏👍

Bijelo Dugme—that's just a classic staple for me.

Alcest, honestly, that sounds great to me. ☕

Frank Ocean is out of luck this time; wouldn't want to spread my votes too thin across all these different albums. 😲

Autechre, that IDM vibe is just so wild, it definitely deserves my vote.

Brian Eno, totally reminded me of David Bowie - Rebel Rebel, so he's getting my vote.

I’m going to go ahead and announce right now that I won't be casting an extra vote—just in case my support for my candidate ends up being the deciding factor. To be perfectly honest, I couldn't justify giving a bonus vote to any other album; none of them really grab my attention enough to make it worth it.

I've already spun most of this. That guy Cymande... man, he's an old soul. Total one-hit wonder, but damn, what a hit! If I were putting together a top 20, "Dove" would definitely make the cut. Not really worth my time on Blu-ray, though. He’s an old favorite of mine, so I'll probably always be a fan...

As for the second half, Autechre is somewhat interesting so far. Dudley and Coleman hold their own until things get repetitive and that Art of Noise sound starts pushing you right to the edge of boredom.

All in all, nothing groundbreaking here. I'm starting to fear these kinds of discoveries are becoming a rare breed. 😢

It’s gotta be Brian Eno and Cymande 👍 You all know the drill—I'm diving deep into this all weekend long, whenever I can find a spare second 🙂

Oh man, I just saw this. I didn't think Eno stood a chance, but this is actually great...
So, here is a little Kimono Eno for you! 😍

I haven't managed to listen to anything new this time around, so I just picked two albums from artists I actually know. I skipped over Fleetwood Mac. From that circle, I chose:

Cymande - Cymande
I actually stumbled upon them just a few weeks ago. By total accident, 'Dove' kept popping up in my algorithm, and honestly, it hit the spot—the whole album did. I also gave their next two 70s records, 'Second Time Round' and 'Promised Heights', a spin. They aren't quite as good, I guess, but they're still okay. That first one is excellent, though. It’s nice to have something different on the playlist this week—something soulful and warm with those African vibes.

Autechre - Sign
I really liked the quote here. And it's the complete opposite of the Cymande album—just pure, cold electronica. I haven't listened to enough Autechre yet, just 'Amber'. I remember hearing that Oliver (Deep Cuts) made this incredibly thorough guide through their discography. It's packed with details; I haven't sat down with it yet, but maybe I will soon...

There is also a great Eno guide if anyone is interested. I'll probably make a thread about it tomorrow.
