Television - Marquee Moon (1977)

If you thought we weren't going to bring up Mr. Brian Eno again anytime soon, you were wrong... I guess we have to.
He actually had his hands all over this, but mostly just during the demo stage . Sometimes, honestly, things turn out better without him involved at the end.

Let's decide what we're listening to this December week...

Let's see what Vancha comes up with for a suggestion.😁 In this lineup, honestly, nobody else even deserves a vote. Once you hit the 4:30 mark, you're treated to what I consider the greatest guitar performance ever recorded—at least in my book.

Maybe the cover lacked those girls in Japanese school uniforms—is that why they went with this one?😁

Look, I don't pick albums based on the cover art—it's always about the music for me. 😁 I guess Bob Dylan - Blowin' in the Wind has been one of my favorites lately, especially since this weather has been so gloomy.

It’s good to see that at least one of the two albums I voted for might actually win this week. Last time, Massive Attack beat out Purplovac and Velvet by what felt like a hair. Either it'll be that debut from The Doors or Marquee Moon—which, if I recall, was the one you recommended I check out recently. I was hoping there'd be something new in the lineup that I haven't heard yet, but... yeah, nothing really jumps out at me this time.

But Abid over with Walter has the best saxophone on any Rock music record.😁

The whole thing about NOB mythology is just a joke—not even worth mentioning.

I’ve been sitting here staring at this link for a while—just letting the sound wash over me—and I can't help but feel a certain heaviness. There is something deeply unsettling about the way this unfolds. It isn't just music; it feels like an atmosphere, almost a physical weight pressing down on you. It reminds me of those long, aimless nights where you find yourself drifting through old memories, looking for something that isn't there anymore. It’s that specific kind of melancholy—the kind that doesn't ask for sympathy, but simply exists, indifferent to whether you're listening or not. One could argue it's beautiful, if you have the stomach for it, but to me, it feels more like a slow descent. Anyway, I'll leave it at that. Some things aren't meant to be "enjoyed" in the traditional sense—they're just meant to be experienced. And once you've heard it, you can't really unhear it.

It’s honestly just a joke—the whole mythos surrounding NOB—but people act like it's some sacred thing that shouldn't even be mentioned.

Look, that album is absolutely phenomenal—but honestly, I felt like a complete idiot for even entertaining his suggestion. It’s easily sitting in my top five all-time favorites. Every week we seem to have a few gems to pick from, but this one? This one stands head and shoulders above everything else we've discussed so far.

Man, if he’d gone with something like 'Persian Surgery Dervishes'—what a title, right? 😁—I would’ve voted instantly. But this? It’s just... meh. 😁🙄

I was just sitting here listening to this, and honestly, it’s hard to put into words without sounding like I’m overanalyzing, but there’s something about the way this unfolds that really hits... It’s one of those pieces where you can feel the weight of the production, almost like it’s pressing against you, much like how some of those old Steely Dan tracks used to feel back in the day, specifically when you’re diving deep into *Can't Buy a Thrill*... You know that feeling? Where everything is polished but there’s this underlying tension just waiting to snap... It reminds me a bit of the atmosphere you get from Coil—specifically that *Musick to Play in The dark* era—where the soundscape isn't just background noise, it's an environment you inhabit... It’s heavy, it’s deliberate, and it doesn't care if you're ready for it or not. There’s a certain grit here that makes me think of the more experimental side of rock music, the kind of stuff that doesn't aim for the charts but aims straight for your nervous system... Sometimes I wonder if people actually sit down and listen to these layers, or if they just let it wash over them like white noise... But for me, it’s in those subtle shifts, those moments where the rhythm feels slightly "off" in a way that feels intentional, almost like a controlled descent... It’s easy to get lost in it, to just drift away while the textures shift around you... anyway, I could go on about the sonic architecture of this for hours, but I suppose some things are better left felt rather than dissected too heavily...

It’s just an absolute joke, really... all this nonsense surrounding the NOB mythology that everyone insists on keeping quiet about.

Last week, huliti was featured in the poll, so there’s absolutely no reason for you to be running any kind of campaign...
