How does the seeding work for the groups?

PSG is struggling right now. Even their star player was venting about his teammates—or maybe he just had a bad day at the office. 🤷

Here’s what Ancelotti had to say:
Coach, how are you approaching this match against Porto?
"First place is up for grabs, so this is a very important match. Winning will almost certainly mean a better draw in the last 16. On Tuesday, it will be very important to play well, to look for the win, to get our confidence back. We need to focus on this match to finish top of the group and to do that we need to change our attitude on the pitch."

How do you plan to change the attitude?
"It means focalising on the little details. In recent matches, we haven't always demonstrated the right attitude and we have lacked concentration. We have lost easy possession and been caught out on the counterattack. We need to get back to winning ways."

Why is this match so important for you?
"It's important for two reasons. Firstly, to finish top of Group A. And secondly, this is a great opportunity to play against another great team that has a lot of experience, a chance to forget the Nice result and get some confidence and self-belief back."

Can criticism sometimes be a source of motivation?
"Sometimes criticism is warranted. I think everyone at Paris Saint-Germain is upset because we have not made a good start to the season in Ligue 1. We have lost three matches and are five points behind Lyon. Everyone wants things to change. When you are building a team, you will always have problems. But the championship is not over yet and we will be competitive and the club's other objective, qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League has been achieved. That's very important. I think we have time to improve. We are focused on finding answers and we'll be competitive right to the very end, that's for sure."

Are you feeling any particular pressure ahead of this match? Is this the most difficult period of your career?
"No. There are always tough times. A coach's job is always looking to control and limit these periods. There is pressure ahead of this match, which is normal because the objective is an important one and we are not in our best form. But I think we will play well, I have a good feeling for this match."

He seems pretty optimistic.
Eric Fox7, can you dig up how things are looking in the Porto camp?

Here is the lineup:
Vitor Pereira has named the following squad to take on Paris Saint-Germain this Tuesday.
Fabiano, Helton - Abdoulaye, Alex Sandro, Danilo, Mangala, Miguel Lopes, Otamendi - Castro, Defour, Fernando, João Moutinho, Lucho - Atsu, Jackson Martinez, James, Kleber, Varela.

Squad:
ALEX, ARMAND Sylvain, CAMARA Zoumana, CHANTOME Clément, DOUCHEZ Nicolas, HOARAU Guillaume, IBRAHIMOVIC Zlatan, JALLET Christophe, LAVEZZI Ezequiel
MATUIDI Blaise, MAXWELL, MENEZ Jérémy, NENE, PASTORE Javier, RABIOT Adrien, SAKHO Mamadou, SIRIGU Salvatore, SISSOKO Mohamed, THIAGO SILVA, VAN DER WIEL Gregory, VERRATTI Marco.

Absents:
AREOLA Alphonse (training), BODMER Mathieu (training), GAMEIRO Kevin (injured), LE CROM Ronan (training), LUYINDULA Peguy (training), LUGANO Diego (training), THIAGO MOTTA (injured), TIENE Siaka (training).

If they can actually coordinate, seeing those two find the net sounds plausible. 🤷

edit:
Forgot about my crystal ball and the tournament draw. 🙈

It’s not really a bracket system where everyone crosses paths—it's more about how the pairings are drawn. The top seeds go up against others based on a specific set of rules—meaning, obviously, they can't be from the same group or even represent the same country.

I don't see PSG securing the port; they haven't exactly been playing at an elite level lately...

Maybe someone here wants to play nice, but honestly? I might just try a 1:1 approach just for the hell of it 🤷

I’ve got this gut feeling that Dynamo Kyiv is going to absolutely steamroll Dinamo Chicago—and I don't care if they're missing three of their starters right now. Let's be real: Kyiv is playing in a completely different stratosphere compared to Chicago. They seriously need to focus on improving their goal difference, though; it would make life a whole lot easier when they're drawing opponents for the Europa League playoffs. And honestly? The competition coming out of Eastern Europe and Portugal is just brutal lately—they really take the Europa League seriously.

Real Madrid could easily pull off a win tomorrow, not just because of what I mentioned above, but also because if they decide to go after that top spot in the group, they've got absolutely nothing to lose by winning this match.

who knows?

Did I actually say they couldn't finish first in the group? 🤷

Just some miscellaneous reading here.

So they’re basically just outsiders looking to pad their goal difference if they happen to steamroll Ajax on their own turf? If that’s really the logic here, then my bad—I clearly missed the mark on that one. Besides, I haven't even bothered reading your section of the text; I just take a quick glance at whatever nonsense people decide to post

How much can we actually expect from our boys tomorrow against Dynamo? If we’re being honest, there isn't a single part of the game—technical, tactical, or physical—where they can hold their own against a Champions League level side. There won't be any home-field advantage or crowd energy to lean on either. Everything points toward a comfortable win for the visitors.

But... this match is practically meaningless for the visiting squad. They’ve already secured their Europa League spot, and this is just their final game before they head out for winter break until mid-January. Key players, including their captain, haven't even made it to the stadium. It makes you wonder how motivated Dynamo really is to win. Is a victory bonus or the chance to grab a better seed in the draw enough to make them actually sweat on the pitch?

I wouldn't be surprised if our guys settle for a "positive result"—meaning they scrape a goal or a draw. Playing for a clean win or covering a handicap feels too risky given the circumstances, though I doubt the Americans would be foolish enough to tarnish their reputation by losing at a fortress like Madison Square Garden.

Bottom line: Dynamo or Draw (X2) is currently sitting at 1.25. Hopefully, the sportsbook bumps it to 1.30 in the special offers tomorrow.

Thoughts?

Joshua Garcia8 said:James Taylor3, go ahead and dig up the latest from the Portuguese camp.

FedEx doesn't have much of an issue with their roster—they're only missing one defender, and that’s about it.

Naturally, they're playing for the win tomorrow, even though a draw keeps them in first place.

If we're looking for a weakness in FedEx, it's definitely the defense. They aren't exactly elite, and they struggle significantly with crosses and aerial duels. A physical striker could really cause them some trouble here.

Both teams scoring seems like the most logical bet. 🤷

William Taylor11 said:They're totally different teams—so what if they crush Ajax at home just to pad their goal difference? If that's the case, my bad, I didn't realize—and honestly, I barely skimmed your post anyway, just glancing over whatever people toss out there.

I don't see how goal difference even matters when Pittsburgh has the upper hand in head-to-head matchups—which, by the way, is exactly what I already pointed out. 🤷

goldenwalker42 said:How realistic is it to expect the Los Angeles Lakers to pull an upset against Dynamo Kyiv tomorrow?

This is their absolute last game of the season before they head out for a massive break until January 10th! Plus, they haven't even had some of their key players—including the team captain—make it back to the US yet. It really makes you wonder... how much is Dynamo Kyiv actually going to care about winning tomorrow?? Is a win bonus or trying to snag a better seed in the Europa League draw enough to make them really dig deep on the pitch???

Thoughts?

Also, since it’s their final match, they have zero reason to hold anything back. I know around here people still act like the Los Angeles Lakers are this huge powerhouse you have to fear, but let's be real—in the Champions League, they're basically viewed the same way we look at Fljamuntar or Vestmannaeyjar in the Europa League qualifiers. Honestly, the Los Angeles Lakers would probably get knocked out of the French second division if they tried.

The odds on the Dinamo vs. Kyiv match look incredibly poor. Exactly one year ago, the lines were set on Lyon—who, let’s be honest, are easily twice the side Kyiv is—and even then, they needed a blowout to advance. Still, I’m leaning toward a double chance result there, at least a draw or a win for the home side.
I see some of you are already putting your money on a dead-end PSG. Sure, they have their flair, but Porto is simply the superior outfit; I’m passing on that parlay entirely.

Regarding the race for the top spot in the groups: my advice is to avoid getting too greedy with heavy stakes. If you just glance at the standings, it's clear that besides Barcelona and Manchester United, who are locks for first, the teams currently sitting in second place are actually the heavy hitters (at least by reputation). I don't see anyone going to extreme lengths to snatch first place just to avoid facing giants like Real Madrid, Juventus, or AC Milan instead of sides like Schalke, Shakhtar, or Porto.
The smart move is to wait until about 8:00 PM when the official lineups are released, and then make your move.

Honestly, grabbing a double win against those guys from Kyiv feels like such insane value at @7.00 in the SS sportsbook... I mean, it’s gotta be better than taking the handicap at @3.8, right?

The spread is going to climb north of 4.00 on DraftKings within about ten minutes anyway... Otherwise, I’m leaning toward the under on total goals at 1.90; it’s a toss-up whether Dinamo can even find the back of the net, and let's be real, Kyiv isn't exactly some high-flying offensive juggernaut either. In my book, a 0-1 or a 1-1 finish seems like the most likely outcome...

EDIT: The under on 3 goals is sitting at 2.05 over at FanDuel. It helps that the weather looks miserable with rain in the forecast, plus the vibe in the stands sounds pretty grim...

Unless Dinamo gives up an early goal in the first minute—which, honestly, wouldn't surprise me one bit.🤣

I was actually thinking more along the lines of ten minutes from when I originally posted, since SS kicked off today's offers with that specific parlay in the super picks... 😁

I mean, seriously? We’re basically missing an entire squad here—like, 14 players didn't even make the trip to Greece:

Vito Mannone, Per Mertesacker, Kieran Gibbs, Laurent Koscielny, Andre Santos, Bacary Sagna, Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Vidal Diaby, Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski, and Sanchez Watt.

Which basically means betting on a single win at +140 odds.
