Luckily, I don't have any issues with hemorrhoids right now. Once I head in for my follow-up appointment—which is scheduled for six weeks after the surgery—I'll jump back on here and let you guys know exactly what my surgeon says. I did deal with one side effect, though: I actually couldn't pee. Something probably got irritated during the procedure, maybe even my prostate since it's so close to the area, so they had to insert and remove a catheter a few times. Look, there's just no such thing as a 100% guarantee that you won't run into an unexpected hiccup. But honestly, after dealing with hemorrhoids for so many years, going through this was totally worth it.

I haven't dealt with any bleeding for half a year now
Honestly, changing up my diet and staying active—that's my little secret

I just realized that hemorrhoids can actually be triggered by sweat pooling around your waist and trickling down toward your anus

Urgent! Does anyone know if I can get something via prescription from my family doctor so I don't have to shell out for expensive over-the-counter stuff at the pharmacy?

Unfortunately, nothing is covered by insurance without you paying out of pocket first.

Thanks for the info.
Picked up a tube of ointment from the pharmacy today. $13I'm heading to see Dr. Ivanovic on Monday to see what she has to say about it.

Dealing with hemorrhoids during my third trimester. 🕺

Does anyone have advice on how to manage this? I've been staying hydrated with plenty of water and tea, eating lots of fruits and veggies, and cutting out caffeine and processed pastries...

I’ve been dealing with hemorrhoids lately too. If anyone could give me a specific list of what to eat and what to avoid, I'd appreciate it.

How am I supposed to help? — I’m drinking tons of water and tea, eating my fruits and veggies, cutting out caffeine, skipping the pastries... everything.

You can’t really win against hemorrhoids—you just negotiate an extension.
It all depends on how bad it actually is.
I went ahead and scheduled a colonoscopy just as a precaution—zero symptoms or anything, honestly. Just figured I’d go see what all the fuss is about. 🤣

Anyway, everything turned out fine—the doc just told me I've got a mild case of these little bastards, but said there's no point messing with them and I should just live my life. We chatted about it for a bit, so basically:

Toilet paper—it’s basically the ultimate enemy. Seriously, the GOAL should be using just a couple of squares and calling it a day. But once you start getting into those petty debates about who ends up cleaner—you or the paper—you've already lost.

Look, if you actually want to nail step one, your diet is everything. There are plenty of general guidelines out there, but honestly—you’ve gotta find that sweet spot for yourself. It’s all about finding that perfect balance where things aren't too hard or too soft, just... solid. You know, aiming for that "minimal toilet paper usage" kind of efficiency.

Most of the time, this combo keeps things moving smoothly—just 4 or 5 prunes a day plus some psyllium husk (you can grab it at Whole Foods). Grab half a liter of water, toss in two small spoonfuls of the husk, stir it up, and drink it immediately before it turns into glue—then rinse the glass with another 2.5 dl of water, swirl it, and finish that off too.

Going every five days isn't exactly ideal—but hitting the bathroom three or four times a day is just as bad since it all just irritates everything. Honestly, a normal range is somewhere between once a day and once every few days; we’re all built differently, and everyone's "tank" has its own capacity. 🙏

It doesn't matter how long you're sitting on the throne—it's about the strategy. Honestly, just hang out there for thirty minutes if things are running slow and let nature take its course naturally—way better than rushing it in three minutes and trying to force everything out at once.

Always wash up after using the bathroom—even if you think you're clean—whenever you can. If you're out and about, grab some wet wipes or just stick to a neutral soap... honestly, if that's not an option, plain water does the trick.

Dry skin down there is one of the biggest headaches—it gives you that annoying tight, itchy feeling that makes you want to scratch, and then you're stuck dealing with the same irritation you get from cheap toilet paper. Seriously, stop the sandpaper routine. There’s a super simple fix.

Found this Balea stuff by Nevenov—looks alright, I guess. Might give it a shot if I'm feeling fancy.

So this stuff is basically magic—I can't live without it. And I don't just mean for that situation down there, but for everything else too. If your hands are cracked and bleeding, just slather it on and rub it in... it won't be perfect by morning, but you'll be like 80% healed. Seriously, a miracle. 🙏

Same goes for after you wash—just slather on this cream. It'll make your day way more chill, zero discomfort, and honestly, next time you hit the restroom, things will just glide right out

Hemorrhoids are basically like the slums in Rio—best if you just leave them alone and don't poke around too much. They mostly operate on a "don't touch me and I won't touch you" policy. The real trouble starts when you decide to squeeze the trigger by crushing them with 74 bags of chips (and I mean 74 bags, not just one—unless that was your entire diet for the day) or some other junk combined with half a gallon of water daily. Then you're left wondering why everything feels like an AK-47 went off down there the next morning 😬

The slums in Rio, I'm dying! 👍😁

They really are, haha!

I've been using those Violeta Hemo-care wet wipes, and honestly, I don't know if it's all in my head, but I truly feel like they provide a cooling sensation to the skin.

I just keep hoping these things are temporary—that they’ll eventually disappear after childbirth, or so they claim... 🙂

Thanks for all the advice!

For a few years now, I’ve been picking up some Advil once a year, but lately they’ve started carrying two different versions—there's this Advil Venom stuff you can just grab off the shelf without a prescription, and then there's the regular version that requires a doctor's note. Honestly, they seem identical to me.
Does anyone know which formulary list the prescription Advil falls under? And does Medicare cover half the cost, or am I paying full price out of pocket (I have my doubts about Medicare picking up the tab here)?

I don't use paper at all, personally.
I just stick to washing with water.
Why on earth would you use paper when you have a bidet?

I actually use Violeta Hemo-care wipes; the packaging specifically says they are designed for these kinds of issues, and honestly, they've worked wonders for me.

Which list is that prescription Advil on? And does insurance cover half, or is it full price? (I doubt Medicare covers it).

My doctor prescribed it a few days ago (I'm 21 and dealing with hemorrhoids for the first time). She gave me a standard white prescription after the exam, so I went to the pharmacy with it. It was Advil 500 mg (60 tabs), costing about $43. I assume it's just the regular full price without any insurance subsidy. I have the older blue box version. I'm also using some hemorrhoid cream from Galenical Labs; it helped with the pain and stinging, but since yesterday, the itching and burning have been unbearable.

Saw the ad... where did you get them and how much were they?? thanks!!!!

First I'm hearing of it.
I actually thought about downloading an app for it, but couldn't get it to work—tech issues, right?
Anyway, I just wash up thoroughly in the shower stall and call it a day. Simple as that.
Perfection.

Like I mentioned on the last page, I promised I'd share what the surgeon had to say once I went in for my follow-up, so here’s the update: everything looks great regarding the hemorrhoids. I don't even need to come back for more checkups.
It is such a massive weight off my shoulders after all these years, mostly because the pain is finally gone for good.

It's a massive relief after several years; the pain is finally gone.

As I noted in an earlier post, I started feeling them a few months ago and saw a doctor about a month back. I have to use ointment and Advil 500 mg until December 15th, then I go in for another exam. Since this is my first time dealing with this, how long does treatment usually last? Is there any chance I can stop once they recede within this timeframe?
