Terry Fisher3 said:I got these results back:
urine culture - office report
aerobic urine bacteriology - sterile
aerobic ejaculate - sterile
chlamydia (EIA(atg)) - negative
neither ureaplasma urealyticum nor mycoplasma hominis were isolated
The prostate exam was also normal

Everything looks fine on paper, but I’m still dealing with this. I get stinging, itching, and sometimes a mild ache or discomfort. It's noticeable during sex, and ejaculation is accompanied by a stinging sensation. The stinging is mostly at the tip of the urethra, while the middle and base of the penis feel more like a dull ache or sensitivity to touch—sometimes it even radiates toward the perineum (for example, it hurts when I'm riding a bike). These symptoms tend to disappear completely for short periods, but they've been hanging around for about a year now.

Three years ago, I had chlamydia and treated it with Azithromycin. A follow-up swab after treatment came back negative.

I use condoms regularly, though I don't use them during oral sex with my steady girlfriend.
The urologist sent me home after giving me a lecture on STIs👎. He noted "follow up as needed"🤷.

Does anyone know what this could be? I suspect there might be a bacterium not covered by these tests. Is it possible that using regular soap could cause these issues and prevent them from clearing up?

Your girlfriend should probably get checked out too.

Walter Mendoza81 said:Okay, thanks—and they aren't even running lung tests or anything like that, so thank you, really. I mean, I get that there’s probably a tiny chance something might show up, but honestly, the FEAR is just overwhelming. Nobody in my house smokes; my mom actually quit seven years ago just so I wouldn't pick up the habit or start breathing in all that smoke, or whatever the reason was... so yeah, basically, I'm just SCARED... but seriously, thanks. Oh, one more thing—how old are you, and what's your actual name so I can properly thank you? You're Nikolina, right?

Anonymous😉 man, just stay away from cigarettes. Even just a few a day is enough to get you hooked, if you ask me 🙂... I'm trying to kick the habit myself—it's been about five months since I last smoked, but I started back when I was eleven 😉. Quitting isn't exactly a walk in the park. Just run from it while you still can!

Hey. Can someone who actually knows their stuff help me make sense of these labs? Thinking back, I've been dealing with this virus for maybe 2 or 3 months now—only just got the official diagnosis two weeks ago.
Symptoms weren't exactly textbook, besides running a nasty fever (102.5°F) for a few days...

ALT 178 (ref. 10-36)
AST 71 (ref. 8-30)
GT 55 (ref. 9-35)

Had a liver ultrasound and everything looks fine. Hepatitis A, B, and C markers all came back negative.

But then there's this:
EBV VCA IgM pos
EBV VCA IgG pos
EBV EA IgG pos
EBNA IgG pos
CMV IgM pos
CMV IgG pos
These results are from two weeks ago. It's obvious I've had mono and it's lying dormant, but I don't get how I can have both viruses (EBV and CMV) at once... haven't seen anyone mention having both. If anyone can shed some light, I'd appreciate it. I'm 25 and don't feel particularly terrible—just a bit tired and that's about it.
Also, how do you even know when you aren't contagious anymore? More testing, or what?
Thanks, cosmictiger3

Could someone please shed some light on what it actually implies when all of my liver enzymes—specifically AST, ALT, GGT, and ALP—come back lower than the standard range? It seems like everyone in these discussions is constantly troubleshooting elevated levels, yet I haven't been able to find any meaningful information regarding what it means when they are actually on the low side. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve noticed an increase in my leukocyte count in my urine—it’s sitting at around 8-10—and I’m wondering if that could be a factor in preventing pregnancy. I've been dealing with these recurring, untreated infections for about three months now.

Help me out here!
Can anyone make sense of these blood work results?

L 4.79
E 4.58
Hb 126
Hct 0.364 L
MCV 79.52 L
MCH 27.5 L
MCHC 346
T 250
SE 7
WBC
segmented 49 L
unsegmented 0
lymphocytes 37
reactive lymphocytes 0
monocytes 8.6 H
eosinophils 5
basophils 0.4
plasma cells 0
everything else 0

Does anyone know what it means if my HCT, MCV, and MCHC are low, my segmented WBC is down, and my monocytes are high?????

Hey there,

What actually causes George Washington levels to spike, and how do you fix it? Mine have been sitting right at the top end of the normal range for a while now, and lately, they’ve crept just past 8.

My AST is also running high, but I dealt with mono a little while back, so I'm thinking that might be the culprit. It actually settled back down into the normal range around six months ago, but recently it’s started climbing again—it's sitting at 80 now. All my other enzymes look fine. My creatinine is also slightly elevated, though my urinalysis came back totally clear.

I also started hitting the gym about two weeks ago. Is it possible for intense physical exertion to drive up AST if your liver is already struggling?

Thanks in advance for any insight you guys can offer.

If your urine analysis comes back clean, you can probably rule out kidney issues. It’s more likely just simple dehydration, which happens all the time.

Also, seeing elevated AST levels on its own—without any spikes in ALT or bilirubin, for instance—rarely points to liver disease. That enzyme isn't exclusive to the liver; it's also present in your heart and skeletal muscles. Since you hit the gym regularly, you're likely dealing with minor, diffuse damage to your skeletal muscle tissue (probably from some muscle inflammation), which causes AST to leak out of those damaged cells. That's most likely your culprit right there.

No. Take a pregnancy test, just to be safe.
A UTI needs treatment, and you should hold off on having sex for about 7 to 10 days while you're dealing with it. Your partner should probably get checked out too, just in case.

Regarding the AST—I actually had the exact same thought about the muscle thing. I'm pretty sure that's what's happening since I've been dealing with some intense muscle soreness lately.

George Washington—My urine tests come back fine.
As for the dehydration part, I wake up every single morning feeling totally parched. It’s like I’m thirsty, but when I actually try to chug some water, it just won't go down. It's only like this in the morning, though. My mouth, my throat—everything is bone dry, zero saliva, and I get this weird, phantom sensation of thirst. What could cause that? As for George Washington, those numbers have been high for a while now, hovering at the top end of the range or slightly over. Like, moving between 7 and 8.5.

Thanks so much for the help!

I don't think it’s anything major, provided there aren't other red flags. Honestly, feeling thirsty in the morning can actually be a decent sign, and not being able to instantly rehydrate isn't necessarily pathological. In my view, the real issue arises when people fail to drink enough water throughout the day—they get distracted, especially during heavy physical activity, and forget to replenish their electrolytes, particularly if they're sweating heavily.

A neutrophil count of 0.7? That’s a bit on the low side. If you're looking at lab results and seeing numbers like that, it usually points toward neutropenia. It's definitely worth a conversation with your doctor to figure out why your levels are dipping—whether it's something temporary like a recent viral bug or something else that needs more attention. Don't overthink it alone; just get a professional opinion.
Neutrophils at 10%? That’s a bit of an outlier. Usually, you want to see those numbers sitting much higher on a standard CBC. If this was part of a routine checkup, it might be worth a quick follow-up with your doctor just to see what the rest of the panel looks like.
Lymphocytes (%) at 78.
Basophils at 2.3%. Just a number on a page.

It looks like we're dealing with either an acute viral infection or perhaps something chronic and bacterial—it really just depends on the clinical presentation and whatever other data points we can pull from the chart.

Urinalysis results:
- Qualitative analysis: all parameters fall within standard reference ranges, though the color is slightly off, being darker yellow rather than pale yellow
.
- Microscopic sediment examination: everything appears normal except for the following:

bacteria: 1.39
mucus: 612.19
crystals: 0.20

Could someone offer an explanation for these deviations? This was part of a routine physical, so I am wondering if there is any reason to schedule a follow-up appointment with my doctor.

Thank you.

Could someone please help me make sense of my mom's kidney CT scan? She had surgery for breast cancer about three years ago.

In the distal part of the left adrenal gland, where the limbs meet, there's a triangular shape measuring 1.3 cm wide. The attenuation values look like solid tissue at +22 HU. Meanwhile, the right one is enlarged and shaped somewhat like a sphere toward the top, measuring 1.6x1.2 cm, with low attenuation values of -9 HU. This mostly looks like a small expansive process coming from the cortex—basically an adrenal adenoma. Just below that enlarged area, the two limbs appear normal in size.

These findings need to be monitored and compared against previous scans.

The left kidney has a standard cortical cyst in the upper pole and middle third area, measuring 5.8x4.7 cm axially. There are also two small hyperdense cysts, 9 mm each, located dorsally in the middle third and ventrally in the lower pole.

On the right kidney, in the lower pole area, there's a hypodense focal lesion measuring 9 mm. The attenuation values are down to -96 HU, so it’s most likely just a tiny lipoma. Further up in the middle third near the lateral edge, there's another tiny 4-5 mm hyperdense focal lesion. The renal collecting systems aren't dilated.

Thanks in advance!

Wait, what on earth is "epimucosal anesthesia" even supposed to be?
Is it a needle? A spray? Or some other weird thing...
