I guess I've already searched Google. 🙂

I suppose the question is, what does it mean when they fall below the reference range? Maybe it means there isn't any inflammation, or perhaps it means they aren't being produced enough to protect me from infection?

Along with those, my hemoglobin is at 115 (ref range 119-157), hematocrit is 0.342 (ref range 0.356-0.47), and GGT is 8 (ref range 9-35).

But what does it actually mean when they fall below the reference range? Does it imply there's zero inflammation, or just that there isn't enough being produced to defend against it?

Along with those, my hemoglobin is at 115 (ref. range 119-157), hematocrit is 0.342 (ref. range 0.356-0.47), and IBM is at 8 (ref. range 9-35).

Speaking as a complete amateur, looking at those granulocytes, I’d say your immune system seems a bit run down, though I have no clue why. Here is some info regarding the other numbers:

The simplest and fastest way to spot anemia is by checking the red blood cell count or hematocrit. Low hematocrit levels suggest a shortage of red blood cells in circulation, or perhaps that they're being destroyed faster than the bone marrow can replace them. Another key indicator is hemoglobin levels. Bleeding is one of the most common reasons for a drop in hemoglobin. This could be sudden—like from a stomach ulcer—or slow, chronic micro-bleeding somewhere in the GI tract. For women, heavy or frequent periods are often the primary culprit behind low red blood cell and hemoglobin counts. Whether the anemia is acute or chronic, you really have to pin down the underlying cause. As for the IBM, I found that low values aren't usually clinically significant.

Can someone please make sense of this for me?
My blood work came back:
AST 95
ALT 199
GGT 270
MCHC 352
A few of these numbers are definitely flagged as high... everything else seems to be sitting right within the normal range.
I already ran tests for hepatitis markers and they all came back negative. I’ve also been running a constant low-grade fever, like 99-99.5°F... but honestly, I don't feel any pain at all.

You might be dealing with some kind of systemic inflammation, and honestly, there are a million things that could be triggering it—we're talking everything from being constantly stressed out to certain types of autoimmune disorders. You seriously need to get your thyroid levels checked, specifically your TSH, T3, and T4.

I could really use some guidance here!
So, I’m looking at some coagulation results for a man in his early twenties.

His INR came back at 0.95, though the lab report didn't provide any specific reference ranges. Everything else in his blood work and coagulation panel looks perfectly normal. Does an INR of 0.95 mean anything specific? Is it considered within a healthy range, and if not, what would be the typical target for a guy his age?

Thanks so much in advance!!

My doctor is telling me it’s just mild liver inflammation... maybe mono... and wants me back for more bloodwork in two weeks... Why on earth are you bringing up my thyroid??????

It could be mono—you know, that kiss disease thing. Honestly, you should always get your thyroid levels checked because people have no clue how much chaos that tiny little gland can cause if it starts acting up.

Could someone please help me make sense of this report? My mom just had a chest X-ray:

The barium study of the thoracic organs shows no signs of infiltration or acute congestion within the lung parenchyma. Along the right thoracic wall, at the level of the upper hilum, there is an irregular calcification along with some linear shadows indicative of scarring. There are also sclerotic scarring changes noted in the right parahilar region. Both hila show scarring with calcifications present in the lymph nodes.
No effusion detected.
The heart shadow appears globally enlarged.
Aortic atherosclerosis.

Can someone help me make sense of this EEG report?

The brain shows medium-voltage activity at a frequency of 9-10 Hz.
Eye-opening reactivity is clearly present.
There are occasional slow, sharp waves—around 5-7 Hz—interjecting over both hemispheres.
No obvious asymmetries or paroxysmal activity detected.
These changes become more visible during hyperventilation and photic stimulation, showing a tendency to cluster across both hemispheres.

EEG finding: mild dysrhythmic irritative changes with vulnerability during hyperventilation and photic stimulation.

Thanks in advance!!

It might be more helpful to discuss the interpretation of EEG results over in the epilepsy discussion thread.

Hi everyone!
I was wondering if any orthopedic specialists here could weigh in on some exercises to help manage these MRI results:
Moderate disc bulging at L4-5 and L5-S1. Transverse sections through the L5 vertebra show a bony deficit in the dorsal aspect of the left medial pedicle where it joins the right pedicle, suggesting spina bifida as seen on previous X-rays.

After a few years of being fine, I’m dealing with sharp lower back pain again, specifically triggered by rotation and extension movements (I play tennis).
My right leg also goes numb after I make a "wrong" move on the court.

If anyone has therapy recommendations, I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks!!

My lab results show an elevated L-PCR level. Basically, the L-PCR came back higher than the upper limit. What does that actually signify?

Not actually for me—my husband’s results came back regarding toxoplasmosis—can anyone break down what this means?

Goldman Sachs EBNA IgG (EBNA) - positive
EBV VCA/ EA IgG (VCAG) - positive
EBV VCA IgM (VCAM) - negative
TOXO IgM (TXM) - negative
TOXO IgG II (TXG) - negative

There’s more detail attached to each one of these... if anyone actually knows what they're looking at, I can post the specifics.

Well, here I am. After dealing with this nagging pain under my right ribcage and down by my right kidney—assuming that's actually where my kidney is 😁—and making several trips to the doctor for blood work... everything seems fine on paper, except for this one glaring issue in my urinalysis:
I’m honestly a bit panicked because I have to 😲 tomorrow afternoon, and I didn't notice any blood in my urine at all. This is the first time I've ever seen blood mentioned in a lab report. :/ I did a quick search on Google, and now I'm spiraling through possibilities like bacterial infections or kidney inflammation... oh boy, what am I going to do?

Urinalysis Results:
glucose: neg
ketones: neg
bilirubin: neg
urobilinogen: normal
protein: neg
Blood: positive
nitrites: neg
leukocytes: neg
URINE SEDIMENT
leukocytes 0-2
erythrocytes: high
epithelial cells 4-6

Even if your blood work comes back looking normal, is it still possible that something is going on under the hood?

Greetings, everyone.
I will get straight to the point... I just received my blood work results and several markers are elevated:

HEMOGLOBIN - 167 g/L (normal range 129-160)

Enzymes >>
S-AST - 24 (normal range 11-38)
S-ALT - 40 (normal range 10-33)😕
S-IBM - 52 (normal range 10-27)😕

I am curious as to what this signifies. I am 17 years old and have never dealt with any significant health issues, aside from occasional bronchitis, though I doubt there is any correlation there. For context, I do smoke, and I occasionally consume alcohol on the weekends, albeit in moderate amounts. I would appreciate it if someone could provide an explanation regarding what might be causing these levels.

Many thanks.

Don't worry. These values are almost normal. Your hemoglobin is slightly elevated, which is fine; the main concern would be if it were low, as that could indicate anemia. AST, ALT, and IBM are liver function tests, and even with these slight elevations, they don't suggest any pathological conditions (you might have consumed alcohol, eaten fatty foods, or taken medication shortly before the draw...). To put your mind at ease: chronic alcoholics see IBM levels over 1000.😁
Everything is fine.😉

driftinggull21 The user states:
There is no need for alarm. These results are almost entirely within the realm of normalcy. Your hemoglobin is slightly elevated, which is hardly a cause for concern; the real issue would be if it were low, as that could signal anemia. As for your AST, ALT, and IBM levels—your liver enzymes—the fact that they are marginally elevated does not necessarily indicate any pathological condition. It is quite possible that factors such as recent alcohol consumption, a heavy meal, or even certain over-the-counter medications could have influenced the reading. To put your mind at ease, consider this: individuals struggling with chronic alcoholism frequently see IBM levels exceeding 1,000.😁
Everything appears to be in order.😉

I happened to indulge in a few beers yesterday. 😁 All right then, thanks!
Greetings to everyone.

I went ahead and got several tests done:
urine culture - lab results
aerobic urine culture - sterile
aerobic ejaculate culture - sterile
chlamydia (EIA(atg)) - negative
neither ureaplasma urealyticum nor mycoplasma hominis were isolated
Also, they checked my prostate, which came back completely normal too.

The labs all look fine, yet here I am, still dealing with this. I’m experiencing stinging, a sort of tickling sensation, and occasionally some mild pain or discomfort. It’s particularly bothersome during sex, and ejaculation is often accompanied by a stinging feeling. The stinging is mostly concentrated at the tip of the urethra (right near the end of the penis), whereas the middle part and the base tend to feel more like an ache or discomfort when touched—sometimes it even radiates all the way behind the scrotum (for instance, it makes riding a bike quite uncomfortable). These symptoms have a tendency to vanish entirely for short periods, but they've been lingering on and off for about a year now.

About three years ago, I actually had chlamydia, which I treated with Azithromycin. I had a follow-up swab after the treatment was finished, and that came back negative.

I use condoms consistently, though I don't use them during oral sex (which I do), and I have a long-term partner.
My urologist basically gave me a lecture on STIs and then sent me home, noting that I should return for a follow-up only if necessary.

I was wondering if anyone might have an idea what this could be? I suspect there might be some kind of bacteria that wasn't covered by the standard panels I ran. Is it possible that just using regular soap for washing could cause these issues and prevent them from clearing up?
Jason Morales88 said:your girlfriend should probably get checked out too!

Well, she went in for an exam, and they ended up isolating Ureaplasma urealyticum in her.
Is it possible for me to pick up that ureaplasma through oral sex via the throat/mouth and then pass it onto my genital organs?
What's the next step? My symptoms are still persisting.
