Hey ladies, I’m dealing with a bit of a situation regarding my period and my overall cycle... To be honest, I've had irregular periods for as long as I can remember. My gynecologist always just blamed it on stress, so I ended up relying on birth control pills from the time I was 16. But now that I've stopped taking them? It's like my period barely shows up at all. My ovaries seem fine—no cysts or anything—but my last actual period was back at the start of the year. Now, my doctor wants me to get some hormone testing done, which apparently can only be done between day 2 and day 5 of my cycle. But how am I supposed to do that if I can't even get my period to start? Is this even possible without being back on the pill? What is actually going on here? Has anyone else dealt with something like this? I'm only 25, so I'm definitely not heading toward menopause. Any advice would mean the world.

So, like, a couple of months ago my period was actually totally on schedule, but now everything has just gone completely sideways...

Tomorrow marks ten days since I was supposed to start... and honestly, the exact same thing happened two months ago. Back then, I went through this whole frantic cycle of taking a million pregnancy tests—even though I knew the odds were basically zero—and eventually ended up at the clinic for an exam because I was worried about maybe having cysts or something. My doctor checked everything out—cervix, uterus, ovaries, all that stuff—and said everything looked perfectly fine

Well, I just took two more tests today and they both came back negative... and now I’m just sitting here with no clue what to do. I really don't feel like dragging myself back to the doctor again, but I can't even sleep tonight because my head is spinning thinking about all of this😢

Has anyone else dealt with something like this before? 🙂

Your hormones are probably just out of whack. Honestly, you might want to get them checked out.

Hey everyone, I have a quick question...
I’ve been having pretty light periods that usually last about 3 to 4 days. This has been my pattern for the last year or two now. I do get some cramps, but this month was just... strange. I don't even know how to describe it. The bleeding was incredibly light—it felt more like just a little spotting that lasted for maybe two days. When I went to see my OB-GYN back in October, she told me everything looked fine. She did an ultrasound and mentioned that I have a slightly tilted uterus. Is that actually something I should be concerned about, or is it totally normal?
Maybe this is a silly thing to ask, but...
Thanks! 🙂

brightlynx39, I’ve had those same light spotting issues myself and everything turned out perfectly fine. There's really no reason to worry. 😉

Regarding the retroverted uterus—it's actually one of the mildest uterine variations you can have. In most cases, it doesn't cause any issues with carrying a pregnancy to term. You especially shouldn't stress about it since yours is only MILDLY tilted. 😉

Thanks, I guess I’m just a little worried that having periods like this might make it harder to actually conceive. I definitely feel my ovulation happening—there's that slight cramping and that specific "wet" sensation, you know? :P 🙂. But this month, it was barely even there, whereas last month felt much heavier. 🙂
I’m really hoping everything turns out fine. My OB-GYN actually reassured me that the uterus isn't an issue when it comes to carrying a baby, and she told me that now is actually a great time for me to start trying. 🙂

My situation looks something like this: for most of my life, I’ve dealt with extremely heavy and painful seven-day cycles. Then, I experienced a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage—specifically a missed abortion—which required a D&C. My first period following the procedure arrived almost exactly one month later, and it was heavy but thin, consisting of bright red blood. Since then, about seven months have passed, and while my cycle remains regular, the pattern has shifted significantly. I bleed heavily only on the first day, and the flow is quite thick, filled with clots and various fragments. That first day is characterized by dark blood, brown bits, and a lot of mucus. By the second and third days, the bleeding tapers off significantly, and by days four through six, it’s essentially just brown spotting and discharge. I am aware that menstrual changes after pregnancy are common, and many women find their periods become less painful after their first pregnancy. However, as I am currently trying to conceive again, I can't help but worry: could these changes be an indicator of something like endometriosis or perhaps a hormonal imbalance?

So, I have this 14-year-old girl, and she actually started her period exactly two years ago. Lately, though—over the last three months or so—her cycle has been running about 21 to 24 days, whereas it used to be pretty steady at 28 to 30 days. I mean, I guess it might still be a little early to go see a doctor, but I can't help feeling a bit anxious about it. What do you all think?

It’s not like she’s going to walk into a doctor's office and have some catastrophe happen; talking to a specialist is just a precaution.🙂

Wait, 14 isn't too young for a gynecologist visit at all! Honestly, I think it’s actually the perfect age. She’s probably totally fine, but isn't it always better to have a professional give the okay?

So, she got her period again today after 28 days. I'm thinking everything is looking pretty normal so far, and even though she hasn't quite hit that 14-day mark yet, I guess she’ll probably be there in a couple of days...

I had the same mess with my cycle at first. Then I got diagnosed with PCOS and they put me on Diane. Once the PCOS was under control, I switched to Duphaston.

Periods can be unpredictable, and honestly, it’s probably nothing to worry about, but you really shouldn't skip out on making a habit of seeing an OB-GYN for regular checkups and screenings.

It’s been quite a while since I last posted here, but I don’t really have any other place to turn. I’m 16 years old, and I’ve been dealing with these incredibly heavy periods that are causing me to become anemic. I had my first period when I was 11, but then everything just... stopped. I went about 6 to 8 months without anything, and when I did get it, it was super rare, though everyone kept telling me that it was totally normal for someone my age. After about a year and a half, things started up again, but they were extremely heavy. One time, it actually lasted for 25 days! I didn't see a doctor at first because, again, I was told this is all pretty standard for teenagers. But then the anemia started kicking in, and I ended up in the ER because my blood work looked really concerning. This has happened two or three times already over the last year and a half. I eventually saw a gynecologist who found out it was due to a cyst—which I actually had surgery for about 10 months ago since they couldn't find another way to handle it. Since the surgery, my cycle happens roughly every 70 to 80 days, and the bleeding is still really intense. It keeps lasting anywhere from 15 to 25 days, and my anemia seems to get worse every single time. Everything during the surgery went smoothly, and the doctors say everything looks fine and they aren't sure why this keeps happening.
Anyway, if anyone can help or if you've gone through something similar, I would be so grateful for any advice.. 🙂

Hey guys, my period is late and I’m totally freaking out about being pregnant. My boyfriend and I usually use condoms, but we did have some unprotected skin-to-skin contact for a bit last month around day 26 of my cycle. Usually, my cycle is pretty predictable—it was 28 days back in December, then it started getting shorter, like 23 days last month. But now? It’s been 31 days. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it was negative. Lately, things have been a little chaotic; I got a Hepatitis B vaccine in the last two weeks and even took a sleeping pill once, which isn't really my thing. I also went to see my OB-GYN and everything seemed fine there, though they gave me some vaginal cream that I didn't finish using. Another thing could be the crazy workouts I was doing back in April and May—I was training super hard and ended up losing 10 lbs, so my cycles were short then too (like 23 or 24 days). I've eased up on the gym and been eating more since then. Still, pregnancy is a possibility, maybe from some stray contact or just playing around too much without being careful... even if he hasn't actually finished inside me. I tested again on day 30 and it was negative, but since we had that unprotected moment on day 26, I'm just lost. Is this delay because of pregnancy, all the physical stress, or just because I've been constantly anxious about other stuff?

Sarah Long68, maybe just take another test if you haven't heard anything by now? You should definitely call your OB-GYN and be totally upfront about what’s bothering you. I mean, if he didn't finish inside, there's no way you're pregnant. But... if you aren't actually looking to start a family right now, please be smart and use protection every single time, regardless of where you are in your cycle!

Hi there! 🙂

I feel a little silly even asking this because I think I already know what the issue might be, but here goes nothing. 😁

Basically, my cycles have been incredibly regular for several years now—the only time things ever shift is when I’m actually sick. For at least the last seven months, my period has arrived on day 27 like clockwork.
The catch is that I'm already ten days late. I am 99% certain I'm not pregnant, so my best guess is that it's because I've had to take antibiotics (Klavocin) three separate times over the last two months. I did go see my OBGYN about two weeks ago and everything checked out fine then.

Should I be worried? Is it worth heading back in for another appointment? 🕺

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some insight regarding periods. My girlfriend had a longer and heavier period this cycle than usual. It normally lasts 5 days, but this month it went for 6 and was a bit heavier. I don't mean she was bleeding constantly like a broken faucet or anything extreme, just more than her baseline. Her cycles are usually around 30 days, but today is day 33 and she hasn't started yet. I'm wondering if the heavier flow from last time could be causing this delay?

Just to clarify, I track her fertile window based on discharge, which we've been monitoring for a while. Her peak fertility should have been on day 17; that's when the discharge was clearest and heaviest. We had unprotected sex—pulling out—on cycle days 12, 21, and 24. In my mind, those seem pretty far from the fertile window since an egg only lives for about 24 hours. Let's call her fertile window days 15 through 19, though the cervical mucus wasn't great. She really only had that clear discharge on day 17.

So, my question is: can a heavier period cause a late cycle? She hasn't had much cramping over the last week compared to what she usually feels before her period. She rarely gets bad cramps, but over the weekend she felt this sensation like something "leaked," though nothing actually happened. From Saturday until yesterday, there was zero discharge, but now she's seeing a very light, creamy white discharge.

Any experiences with this? Please skip the provocations and the jokes.

Congratulations—you’re going to be parents. 🎉

On a side note, the pull-out method is a rather unreliable way to handle contraception.
