melloworca6 said:Regarding thyroid medication, absolutely; as for anything related to sexual health, I can't say for certain, since lately some tests and prescriptions that used to be standard for primary care physicians to handle are suddenly being pushed off to specialists. It’s worth asking your doctor, though—you have nothing to lose.

I know for a fact you can get thyroid scripts, because my own GP handles everything from my medication refills to my hormone labs and referrals to endocrinologists.

Fair enough, thanks for the insight. 🙂

Hey everyone,
has anyone dealt with something similar to this:
for a few months now, this has been my pattern—it starts with a single drop of spotting, then nothing happens for over 24 hours despite having terrible abdominal cramps and headaches. suddenly, after those 24 hours, it turns into a flood. I get this heavy, intense bleeding accompanied by pain for two days, and then it takes another 4 or 5 days to fully taper off. My cycles are regular (28 days), I’m not on birth control, and I’m not sexually active. And
my PMS symptoms are intense (swollen, tender breasts, cramping, breakouts, massive sugar cravings, irritability, mood swings, and brain fog). These kick in up to 7 days before the bleeding starts—once they even started 14 days prior, basically right after ovulation!
Should I be worried about this?
My OB-GYN considered putting me on the pill because of the severe PMS, the pain, and the heavy flow, but hasn't actually prescribed anything yet. It feels like she's waiting to see if things just settle down on their own; she doesn't want to just hand out medication. But this has been wearing me down for years, ever since I got my first period (at age 11, so nearly 9 years ago), and the pain and heavy bleeding just won't let up. My PMS has eased up slightly, but that's about it.

Have you thought about hitting up your primary care doctor to get some referrals for testing?

I don't know, I'm not a fan of what you wrote about your hands flooding. To me, it sounds like your circulation is acting up if you're dealing with those brutal headaches and blue hands. Just tell your doctor you need the referrals—don't let them brush you off. 🙂

🤣

Lol, my bad for laughing, I totally read that she meant her hands were flooding at first, but I think she actually meant heavy flow, like massive flooding 😁

Jason Nelson64, you probably just have some spotting before your period starts—like maybe one or two drops. That doesn't really count as the actual start, just until the real bleeding kicks in.

It’s good that your cycles are regular, though honestly, dealing with heavy, painful periods is super common. I mean, I'm right there with you on that one.😉

Have you had an ultrasound done yet?

Maybe go back and talk to your OB-GYN again. Get an ultrasound just to rule out cysts and get some blood work done. If everything comes back normal, it might just be the pill. But yeah, whatever your doctor says is what matters.

My bad for laughing, I totally read that as her hands flooding at first too, but she clearly meant heavy downpours. 😁

🤣🤣 Honestly, screw my concentration levels. 🤦

I’m actually starting to worry about my own mental health here. 😁

Sorry Jason Nelson64 I completely misread you. What you're describing sounds perfectly normal; happens to me all the time. 🙂

🤣 sorry, I need a good laugh too—we can't exactly be serious all the time, I suppose 😁)

In any case, @Jason Nelson64, I guess it’s only natural that you're dealing with these flood issues 😍

Is an eight-day period considered normal?
My cycles used to last about five to six days, then they gradually increased to six or seven, and now I've hit eight. 😲
It feels a bit excessive to me. I am unsure if there is any reason for concern.

Seems a bit much. Not sure if I should be worried...

Yeah. 🙂 I have a friend whose period only lasts 3 or 4 days, and her OB-GYN told her that's totally fine. We aren't all going to fit into some perfect medical average. It's just like cycles—not everyone has a 28-day rhythm.

Hi everyone, I need some clarity here. I had sex with a guy and my period started the very next day, everything looking totally normal. Is there any actual chance of pregnancy in this situation? Thanks, guys.

It’s highly unlikely... though I suppose there are rare cases where women do conceive during their period... but honestly, that is incredibly rare.

I’ve got a bit of a weird situation on my hands, and honestly, it’s the first time I’ve dealt with this this month. My period supposedly started three days ago, but it was only noticeable when I wiped. Since then, I’ve been wearing a pad like usual, but nothing shows up on it. Even when I use a tampon or wipe after using the bathroom, there isn't really any bright blood; what I'm seeing looks more like this brownish, muddy discharge 🤷. Nothing is actually flowing.

The weird part is that it barely hurts at all, which is strange because my periods are usually incredibly painful. Could this just be some "old" blood waiting for the actual flow to kick in, or is this just my body being unpredictable and this is actually my period for this month?

Thanks 🙂

Hi everyone! I’m not entirely sure if this is the right sub for this, so please feel free to move my post if I’ve wandered into the wrong territory... anyway, I’ve been on Trioloz for nearly a year now, and this month I experienced some spotting—it looked almost like a period, though it was very dark brown—about a week before I actually finished my current pack of pills. Has anyone else dealt with anything similar?

Go ask in the birth control thread. You'll get an answer there much faster.

Does anyone else experience this? What’s your typical flow like, how long does it last, and does it cause much pain?
I had a really weird experience last night. My period usually lasts about two days, then tapers off on the third, but last night I suddenly felt that intense first-day cramping again and started bleeding heavily. When I wiped, I noticed a larger clot that seemed almost stretchy. I rinsed it under the water, and once the blood washed away, there was this thin, membrane-like skin left behind—it actually looked a lot like the white part of an egg.😕
Today, I've got some lingering pain on my left side and a bit of spotting.
Ladies, any idea what that could be? Is seeing a clot like that actually normal?

😂 Honestly, I couldn't help but laugh out loud at that one. 😂

Everything you’re describing is perfectly normal, I suppose. One shouldn't really expect it to be nothing but liquid blood all the time—if it were, that would actually be the strange part. After all, menstruation is essentially just the uterine lining shedding, which naturally involves both blood and that discarded tissue passing through the vagina.

🙄 So when did this happen? 😁
My apologies to the mods; I wasn't trying to "take over the thread" or anything. I just started a new topic because this one hasn't been updated in forever and I needed an answer fast. I was honestly terrified since I've never dealt with this before.😢
There! That's it!

There’s no way it’s been skimmed if there are 80 pages in there. 😁 We were just talking about this two pages ago—it’s totally standard.

My apologies to the moderators—it certainly wasn't my intention to "crowd the space" or whatever it is people call it when you start a new thread. I only opened this one because the other discussion was getting so little traction, and frankly, I needed an answer immediately. I was absolutely terrified—I mean, I was genuinely panicking here—since nothing like this has ever happened to me before.😢
There it is!

This is where everyone who’s panicking rushes to congregate—and honestly, what would this sub even look like if every single person just rushed in to open a two-post thread in a frantic hurry?

What you're experiencing is actually a perfectly normal occurrence—something that, if you had taken a moment to scroll through this massive thread, you probably could have found mentioned quite a few times already.

Don't get mad at me🙂
I see there are tons of pages here; I skimmed through the first few, but everything was focused on how to delay a period rather than addressing my specific situation. Anyway, sorry again—won't happen anymore.
Thanks for getting back to me, especially my friend from Chicago!
