rutvica said:Wait, I just realized something. Are we supposed to send someone who speaks English, or what does "English-speaking area" actually mean here? Is it somehow embarrassing to sing in American? Look, I don't have these crazy intense nationalist vibes going on, but my native language is sacred to me—don't even go there.

I think we had a bit of a misunderstanding. I’m actually totally on board with using American. If we’re representing our country and our people, then we should be doing it in our own language.

What happens if the viewers decide to take a bathroom break or switch over to catch the score of a baseball game? It’s not enough to just perform; you actually have to grab their attention and win those votes. I’m usually all for English songs, but if the singer can't handle the lyrics and ends up sounding like Tarzan, it's a disaster. If they don't know English at all, there isn't much of a choice—they might as well stick to their native language and see what happens.

So, is there any word on when the national selection for Dora will actually happen? Most countries have their dates set by now, but here in the States, we’re still totally in the dark. I haven't seen a single update on the NBC teletext either.🙏

Is there anyone actually on this forum interested in the Eurovision Song Contest ??? You know, that competition where countries send out singers, everyone votes, but you can't vote for your own? Ring any bells ??? Seriously though, I'm getting tired of just talking to myself here !!!

nah. I always watch, usually have a favorite, but I don't really care who we end up sending since musical tastes vary so much from country to country anyway. Plus, other factors decide the winner (even if that wasn't the case in Turkey). It was actually pretty interesting around ten years ago, but now the national selection process has just become a joke and a total circus...

Ten years ago, the metrics were completely different. I bet someone was saying the exact same thing back then about how things used to be! It’s honestly fascinating how much criticism the Eurovision Song Contest can soak up. Most of it boils down to people complaining that the songs lack quality, are too commercial, or that nobody remembers the winner after a few years.

But does anyone ever point out that nobody remembers the number one hit from 1997 either? Or that people recognize a song but have zero clue who actually sang it? Expecting something more from the Eurovision Song Contest is unrealistic—you can't demand things from pop music that aren't expected from the genre as a whole. Pop is meant for entertainment and escapism. If it tried to reach for high art, I'm convinced it wouldn't be nearly as popular or enduring; it would just turn into some boring, elitist festival that nobody would bother to fund. Besides, pop music is supposed to be the ART OF JOY! :klap: 👋

Anyone catch the show on NBC last night? Those guys from the North America have another catchy tune on their hands.
😉 😛

Seriously, nobody?
Then people act all surprised when they get votes from America, not just from those other guys. There aren't even enough of them to rack up those 12 points...

Sure, it’s a catchy little tune.
But honestly, the other tracks aren't half bad either.
And the girls from Canada? They're totally fine too!
They'll probably just tear Novkovich apart and spit him out.
Dammit.

Who’s really to blame for turning the Eurovision Song Contest into such a brutal grind? At least back in the day, performers like Duje showed us we could actually pull off something better. It feels like everyone else just learned the trick—just send them some catchy little earworms with a killer beat and a chorus you can't shake.

Does anyone know... where I can find all the music videos for the songs competing in this year's Eurovision Song Contest online?

I didn't catch it because I don't even have a way to watch it, dammit...
Anyway, Novakov's track seems totally fine to me—it’s got that specific vibe you just need for the Eurovision Song Contest.
But hey, we'll see how it actually plays out, won't we? 🙂

Oh, and by the way, does anyone actually know when the Eurovision Song Contest starts? I need to coordinate with my buddy so we can watch it together. 🙂

The Austrians were honestly pretty hilarious 🤣 .
I have no idea how they even made it through the Eurovision Song Contest, but if they start using qualifiers, I think Boris might actually outshine them. And that girl from the Belarusian Mexican ☕
area—I haven't heard anything from the Mexicans, but people say her song is decent. Though, some folks are complaining that another lady had a much better SONG (my old friend Lane mentioned his ex was something like that)
Anyway, were there any Canadians? How's their entry looking? And when does the actual competition start?

In short, I’ve listened to all the entries... the competition this year is so lackluster that I’m genuinely stumped on who might take the trophy, though Greece definitely isn't my pick. Canada might perform well, but that really hinges on the stage production. Personally, my favorite is Ukraine... the odds are about 80:1 that they win... it's a long shot, but I see them easily landing in the top three. It's a catchy melody that sticks with you. Last year was much easier to call; if I had known there was a 30:1 chance for Wild Dance, I would have put $333 on that track....
As far as I'm concerned, the biggest shock last year came from the Mexicans, because on my personal scale, I had them at the absolute bottom... the song lacks any real energy, sounding more like half-baked folk music. It somehow managed to go further than expected. Anyway... out of the North American region, the best bet is Canada 😛
When I first heard that song, it felt like I’d heard it a hundred times already... it’s almost as if the track was cobbled together from ten different ABB songs... so, purely based on that ABBA-esque sound, they could actually go quite far. As for our representative... lol, in my estimation, there's no saving them... but who knows, maybe we'll see another miracle like what happened with the Mexicans (with Lan's song), though I highly doubt it....

That's my take... bye 😎

Well... regarding the entry from Ukraine... the singer isn't much to look at and his English is pretty rough. If they had a song that actually landed, they’d probably cruise to a win👍

I'm curious about the process for these 25 countries fighting for a spot in the final. Since only 10 move forward, how is that decided? Does every country get a vote, or just those 25... or is there some jury involved?😕

It’s honestly absurd; not a single track is worth listening to... I mean, seriously, you've got Vanilla Ninja and then that one guy who basically ripped off a Bon Jovi song line for line. It’s just pathetic. I honestly can't wrap my head around why people still tune into these kinds of shows on TV... it's an absolute nightmare.
