Do I still have to wait 10 days before I can actually see a new doctor?

So, I just moved to New York City and haven't switched over my primary care physician yet. Now I've gone and caught the flu and really need an appointment. Since I don't have a regular doctor here, and apparently I'd have to wait those 10 days to get a new one set up, I was wondering how much it usually costs to see someone privately? Like, just for a checkup to see if this turned into a bacterial infection—and if it did, maybe getting a prescription for antibiotics.

When you transfer, it takes a few days for Medicare to update everything for the new doctor. However, you can just head to the nearest Community Health Center, tell them you aren't registered with a local doctor yet, and that you're sick. They'll process you as a walk-in and see you.

I'm actually looking for a maxillofacial plastic surgeon myself. If anyone happens to have found someone reliable, I’d really appreciate it if you could let me know.

I've heard that Uglešić is top-tier, so if you can look past the whole student situation, he might be a pretty good choice. If you don't mind traveling out to the Mayo Clinic in San Francisco, Cerovic—who performed the jaw surgery on Damir Kedza—should also be a solid option.

I know he's great at what he does, but honestly, his aesthetic sense is weak. I've seen it firsthand.

That facility is run by the Holy Spirit, so your best bet is to give their physical medicine department a call directly.

I'm looking for some recommendations for a good gastroenterologist here in New York City,
it really doesn't matter if they're in private practice or covered by Medicare...

Thanks in advance 🙂

I'm looking for a gastroenterologist in NYC who actually knows their way around celiac disease. If they're at Vinogradska or Holy Spirit, even better! Anyone have any solid recommendations? 😁

Does anyone have a solid ophthalmologist recommendation in NYC who actually knows their way around Kayser-Fleischer rings? Looking for either Medicare or private options.

Someone close to me just had a brain MRI over in Tel Aviv. The Radiologist checked out the results and found a tiny lacunar infarct. Fine, whatever. But when that same person went to see their neurologist at the Mayo Clinic, the doc basically told them they picked the absolute worst clinic and the most outdated machine imaginable. Now I’m sitting here thinking I was going to book my own MRI at Aviva, but honestly, I’m second-guessing everything now. Anyone got any advice?

For brain scans, Neuron is excellent; otherwise, my top choice has always been St. Catherine. I wouldn't recommend Diagnostics 2000, but Quest Diagnostics comes highly recommended by many.

Any eye doctor would probably spot that in a matter of seconds, I suppose, though the waiting lists tend to be the real headache.

Thanks for the reply, but if any eye doctor could actually see it in two seconds, I wouldn't be out here asking for recommendations, would I?

1. The doctor doesn't even see them. He just Googles images and compares them to my eyes. He calls over a resident to show him this supposed Mittendorf dot I have, the resident sees rings, then the doctor writes on the report that there are no rings. Makes sense, right? Not.

2. The optometrist sees them, though they claims they don't form a complete circle.

3. Another doctor writes on my chart that there are no rings, all while commenting that in his 30 years of practice, he’s seen them twice before and they’re usually thick, 2mm, and deep brown. He’s never seen a Mittendorf dot in my eye, and I’ve been his regular patient for over 10 years.

I won't even get started on how many doctors recently gave me a "perfectly normal" abdominal ultrasound, only for an MRI to show massive hepatomegaly that definitely didn't just pop up in three days.

Thanks a ton for the heads up! 🙂

Back when I worked at Diagnostics 2000 a long time ago, we were using a 1.5 Tesla machine, which is basically nothing compared to the 3.5 Tesla Neuron machines—it’s like two or three times the power. You really want to be on the same kind of equipment. As far as I know, they have two specialists working there, specifically called neuroradiologists. I think the price for a brain MRI at Neuron is around $533, though if you add contrast, it’ll be a bit more.

Thanks, Brandon Newman95.

So, basically, you're saying I should go with Neuron?

Hey there!

So, a few years back, I dealt with some minor neurological issues—mostly petit mal seizures and migraines. I went through treatment for them at the time, and they pretty much settled down. It actually took a ton of hospital stays and consultations with various "experts" in NYC before we finally tracked down the actual cause somewhere way out in the middle of nowhere. But now, all these years later, I've suddenly had three grand mal seizures in a single month. 😢

Does anyone have any recommendations for a neurologist in NYC? If they're in private practice, I'd love to know their rates too, since clinic websites rarely list prices. I really need someone based in NYC who specializes specifically in epilepsy.

So, you're actually recommending Neuron?

Based on my own experience, yeah... though again, I can't really vouch for anything regarding Diagnostics-ala since that was like, what, ten years ago?
One more thing—they don't do installment plans, but there might be some deals or something, better just ask them directly.
Everything else is fine.
