jadefox49 said:is it even normal $117 to pay this much for a root canal? total disaster... and I have to pay extra just because some sloppy dentist messed up my tooth in the first place.

That’s way too much. A root canal alone is usually around $150-$$67, plus they charge you for the actual filling afterward—which is almost always necessary—so you're looking at another $100-$$67.
Honestly, it's better to prevent issues than deal with them. Root canals suck, unless you get good anesthesia. Don't just settle for the basic stuff; ask for a nerve block or something, especially if it's a molar or higher, because the standard numbing doesn't really cut it then.

She’s incredibly thorough and really takes her time. Honestly, I didn't even realize my Social Security Administration coverage included dental cleanings 😁 every six months.

Does she do ultrasonic scaling?😍I'm assuming that isn't covered by the SSA, right?🤷

Has anyone here dealt with Irena Stolić over at Student Health Services? What’s her reputation like?

I’m looking for some guidance here.
Since I’m moving to a new area, I need to switch over to a new primary care physician in Reno.
Could anyone lend me a hand—which GP in the area is actually worth seeing, and who would you personally recommend?
Please!

I’ve been seeing Dr. Miller for years now, and honestly, she’s just the best...

Thanks! 😘

Up until now, I’ve been seeing a doctor who could never actually pin anything down. It was always some vague "maybe it’s this" or "could be that," or even just "it’s probably nothing at all." It’s incredibly frustrating when everything is dismissed as just being affected by the weather or some other minor fluctuation. To get straight to the point, I need a physician who actually treats patients—someone who provides referrals to specialists when it’s necessary and, most importantly, someone who can actually explain what is going on with my health.

Look, after twenty years of dealing with my own dental issues, I’m telling you—go see Dr. Sanja Grabarević over in Mikulić. She’s patient, she actually does a thorough job, and she's genuinely kind. Honestly, I don't get why everyone is so obsessed with finding a dentist just because they live a few blocks away. Like, who cares about the zip code? At the end of the day, the only thing that actually matters is how good their work is.

It’s not about proximity; it’s about whether they actually know what they're doing.

Yeah, true... but does she just do general dentistry, or does she have a specific specialty?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good general practitioner in the Blacksburg area?
Ideally, I'm looking for someone who won't spend half the appointment arguing with what a specialist says just to be difficult, or worse, refusing to write a referral because they feel like being stubborn.

And why exactly does that matter?🤷

That’s exactly why I’m asking—I need to figure out if this covers orthodontics too, since I’m still out here hunting for a decent orthodontist.😢
It’s funny how that works. You ask someone for a bit of advice, and suddenly everyone goes stone-cold silent. It's like they all collectively decided to take a vow of silence the second you opened your mouth.😲🙄I mean, I was just thinking maybe they have a specialty or something...☕

Justin Thomas82 said:Just a private dentist here in Washington, D.C. Having stumbled upon this site quite by accident, I’ll offer my commentary—briefly:

I had no idea people exchanged this kind of information here, even regarding specific dentists... From these first five pages of discussion, I can gather that there are a handful of practitioners who feel forced to advertise themselves in this manner—which is their own choice (though, in my view, it isn't necessary at all!).
The truly unsettling realization, however, is that over 90% of the contributors on this platform are, in the truest sense of the word, scavengers—opportunists and cheapskates...
They demand top-tier service and medical procedures, provided—if possible—that they cost absolutely nothing.
Good grief, is it not obvious to you people that premium service comes at a premium price? ("You get what you pay for," as the saying goes.)???
Let me share an experience from about seven or eight years ago:
One afternoon, a rather low-income, unrefined laborer in green scrubs walks in without an appointment, complaining of tooth pain. I perform a full examination and find that two fillings have fallen out entirely, three have partially failed, and two others are far too old and need replacing—that is seven different teeth in total... At that time, I used to show patients exactly what was wrong with them in a way that was considered quite cutting-edge back then (and remains so today)—and I did the same for this potential patient...
The worker's response? "Well, doctor, I actually saw your colleague just yesterday (he practices right down the street, though we aren't personally acquainted) for these exact same pains (!), and he told me everything with my teeth was perfectly fine."
Me: "Does this colleague happen to be 'in-network'?"
Worker: "Yes, that's exactly why I went to him!"
Me: "Unfortunately, I can only diagnose your current condition—it is up to you to decide where you wish to take all THAT to be repaired."...

It would all be very pleasant if that colleague of mine hadn't been specifically named or recommended by one of you "keyboard warriors."

I am immensely relieved that my name, as well as the names of none of my colleagues, appears on pages such as these...
But you see for yourselves! ...

Yes, I'm sure you're a dentist from Washington, D.C., given that accent and dialect. Since when does anyone talk like that in the capital? Well, stay happy knowing you aren't among those mentioned here.

I mean, I'm pretty sure he was just some shady guy pulling scams during the war, and now he’s out here acting like some big-shot dentist.🤣

Amanda Rogers22 said:Does she even have ultrasonic descaling? I guess maybe.😍So, that doesn't go through Medicare, I guess?🤷

Ultrasonic cleaning is covered by Medicare. I used to get it done for free at my old dentist's office. Honestly, that was the only thing she ever did right. Now that I'm seeing someone else for fillings, I can't really go back to her—she’d totally take it personally if she saw another dentist had worked on my teeth. So, yeah, I just don't go anymore. She wasn't a bad dentist, I guess, she's just getting up there in age and nearing retirement. Her daughter is practicing there now, though, and my brother says she's a great dentist and a pretty cool lady. 😁

mistyranger11 said:Ultrasonic cleaning is fully covered by Medicare. I actually had it done at my former dentist's office, and it didn't cost me a dime. She was the only one who actually got my dental work right, but now I’m stuck. Since I started seeing this other dentist to fix some issues, I can't exactly go back to her—she’d take it personally if she saw someone else had been messing with my teeth. She’s the type who would get offended, so for the sake of avoiding the drama, I just don't go anymore. Honestly, she wasn't even that bad; she's just getting up there in age and looking toward retirement. Her daughter is working at the practice now, too, and my brother mentioned that the daughter is actually a great dentist and a really lovely woman. 😁

Just to set the record straight on this... you can actually get limescale removal covered by Medicare, but that’s strictly for the manual method. If you're looking to go the ultrasonic route, you're going to have to pay an extra fee out of pocket.

The fact that you weren't charged just goes to show how much discretion our colleagues over at Social Security have. It really proves they have their own little set of criteria regarding who gets billed, how it’s done, and exactly how much they decide to charge.👎

Why on earth are some socialized dentists charging $50 or $100 just for a filling? $50 It’s got absolutely nothing to do with intelligence...

So, is sandblasting actually better than just a standard cleaning job?
