G3 lineup thoughts?

He was the guitarist for Timeo and a bunch of other bands, but in Timeo, he actually handled the songwriting too. Check out "North Mexico" and "What Life Should I Be Born For"—those tracks are better than stuff most major global bands put out.
One wild fact about him: he’s the only guy from this part of the country who ever jammed with Jimi Hendrix. You can actually find a photo of them together at the OTV community center. If you want to hear his work, tune into the Deep Purple (rock masters) program over at KSET this Tuesday.

Anyway, Božić is an awesome guy—really easy to talk to. I actually teased him once after a show, joking that he should have had a soccer player similar to a young Satriani.

Look, Božić is an awesome guy and incredibly easy to talk to. I remember teasing him after a show once, asking if he had a soccer player girlfriend back in his younger days, like Satriani did.

Man! What a bummer, I was really hoping to see Fripp rocking out with the band, but let's be real—that would probably be just too much to handle, especially considering who else is shredding with Vai: Sheehan & MacAlpine !!!!

👍 All we're missing is Virgil donating some beats like on the last Vai tour, and honestly, I have no clue who this J.Coulson guy is.

Yngwie Malmsteen played too (I think it was G3 2003 : Rockin in The Free World)... I've heard a few things about it. Personally, while Vai and Satriani are consistently brilliant, Malmsteen just gets a bit repetitive for my taste.

I can't believe they actually packed Madison Square Garden. Here's my take:

I honestly can't wrap my head around why Fripp is even bothering with those two tedious hacks. Half the crowd didn't even realize who that suit was anyway. Even Pista Penava—who leads one of the absolute worst bands on the planet—couldn't name a single song from that King Crimson set these three supposedly "world-class" guitarists were playing (what’s the term for that little scale people use to judge someone's guitar skills again?)
Fripp—someone I genuinely thought was untouchable—has really hit rock bottom.

Honestly, I think Fripp just showed up to mess with everyone, which fits his whole low-key cynical vibe perfectly. Those Soundscape sets felt like they were designed just to get under people's skin—he probably got some weirdly twisted kick out of it.
I don't see any other way to look at it. He’s playing in a completely different league than those two; calling him a "guitar hero" doesn't even scratch the surface. 🙂
It’s a bummer they didn't tear into a heavier KC track, though. "Red" was fine, but man, if they had played something like "Larks' tongues..." that would have been legendary.

And that review by Pista Penava? It reads like it was written by some random 15-year-old kid who hasn't lived yet. 🙄

I feel like a kicked puppy missing out on being in Vienna to soak up those Robert Fripp maladies. I’ve always been a fan of King Crimson (even if I've only scratched the surface of their discography), and I really dig that avant-garde edge Fripp brings to the table.

As for Pista Penava’s review, honestly? It felt sterile and just plain boring. It's like they completely missed the point...😁 😳 😛

So they actually played "Red"? If that's true, that's huge—because this current lineup of Crimson doesn't touch anything from the 70s. Obviously, "Larks" would have been unbeatable. Or maybe "Fracture"... or a surprise "21st Century Schizoid Man."

Yeah, basically they played some kind of medley—Red mixed with that theme from In the Court, I think. Honestly, it’s no shock the current crew isn't playing 70s stuff (aside from various Larks extensions); it was a totally different band back then.
Personally, I'm all about that Discipline-era, perfect pair-beat 80s vibe. There's just this irresistible pop groove baked into it.
Man, if they ever made it out to 🙏, who knows? Maybe Levin comes back to the fold, or maybe some old connections and industry ties finally click.

when was the last time any of you actually caught a King Crimson show live? Looking at what people are saying here—it’s basically never!
I mean, "Red" is a staple on pretty much every single one of their setlists. And back in the nineties, they used to throw in Lark's II and Talking Drum, and hell, even Schizoid man too.

As for seeing them anytime soon, I’ve got my doubts. Not after those comments from Robert Fripp about how KC isn't planning to tour America anymore because the promoters over here are just a total mess.
Has anyone actually sat down and listened to "The power to believe"?
The Discipline era was top-tier, no question, but in my opinion, the Fripp - Belew - Gunn - Mastelotto lineup is easily the best KC reincarnation we've seen yet.

The only tedious show-off at that concert was Fripp with his mindless half-hour of string manipulation and knob-turning. For the first two minutes, it was almost interesting, but then it just became mind-numbingly boring. The guy is so pathetic and arrogant that he didn't even play anything coherent at the Red Line; he just sat there fiddling with things in the corner, and those two or three solos were just pitiful.
I'm not saying he's a bad guitarist—far from it—but what happened on G3 was genuinely sad. If he was just there to mess around, he shouldn't have shown up at all.
IMHO, Satriani, and especially Vai, are both better and way more engaging than him. As for old Robert... he's past his prime...
