You guys can interpret it how you want, but I'm pretty sure this counts as Heavy Metal.

Stuff like Venom, Vader, Slayer, and all that.😁

Oh man, Vader is definitely pure unholy grim evil... total Heavy Metal vibes.🙄

Here’s my take:

1. Heavy Metal..........technically speaking, it's lagging a bit behind other genres (with a few exceptions like Carol Nelson 🙏), but man, does it have the best vibe and atmosphere

2. Thrash........purely about smashing things and just letting all that energy rip (think Slayer 🙏)

3. Death Metal......I used to listen to it way more often, but lately it feels a little repetitive to me. That said, I still enjoy spinning some of the more progressive bands (like Death 🙏)

4. Everything else is pretty much just background noise for me...

John Doe said:Look, even though plenty of magazines label COF as "Epic symphonic heavy metal," I don't really listen to them enough for it to bother me or for me to care that much. They’ve got a few solid albums and a pretty distinct sound, but they just aren't my thing. They're a decent band with a strong management team behind them, but that's about it for me.
Now that they’ve finally got their own place (ABRACADAVER), there's just nobody left to challenge them.😁

When it comes to COB, I think we might be jumping the gun a bit—it’s true. If you look at Death Metal, you've got bands like In Flames and At the Gates leading the charge. Personally, I only group COB under the Death Metal umbrella because that’s where they fit best in terms of their overall style, their stage presence, and how they vibe with other bands in that scene.
COB pulls from a ton of different influences, blending elements of power metal, thrash, and more.
There is absolutely no way this can be Heavy Metal. Look, if a metal band uses certain elements—like vocals that sit right on the edge between Death Metal and Heavy Metal styles, or just a specific sonic atmosphere—it doesn't automatically make them a Heavy Metal band. Period. Nobody gets to just slap that label on everything. Honestly, misclassifying a band like that is a much bigger mistake than just calling them Death Metal.
😉

COF and COB aren't even close to being heavy metal... honestly, anyone with half a brain should already know that.

The only thing those guys bring to the table when it comes to Heavy Metal is the vocals... specifically on their most recent albums.

Bryan Barrett said:Since this thread is already active, I figured I'd jump in and see if anyone here has checked out Metallica? What’s the verdict? I haven't delved into their earliest stuff yet, but they released two albums recently—John Doe (a bit heavier) and John Doe (more mellow)—and I'm honestly loving them. They’re playing this prog-style Death Metal with a ton of melancholic, Pink Floyd-esque vibes (at least that's how it hits me, since I feel like I'm constantly getting lost in genre labels lately).

For the record, my go-to is progressive rock or metal, followed by heavy and thrash... I'm less into Heavy Metal or death stuff.

I've got about 4 or 5 of their albums saved on my computer, but I haven't sat down to listen to all of them yet.
They're solid, but honestly, they can be a little much sometimes.

Look said:...to whole thrash scene? It's absolute garbage in my eyes. Pure devil music, just total crap... sorry if I'm being blunt, but that's just how I feel about it! (really...)

🙂

Well, what else would you expect from a die-hard country fan?

Exactly, it's like they don't even realize this stuff is heavy thrash, while that country garbage is just pure trash.😁

I honestly can't believe ironfalcon18 actually found other bands beyond just ironfalcon18, Darkthrone, and Nightwish.

By the way, is anyone here listening to Godless North from Canada?

I mean, what do you expect? That's what happens when you grow up in the middle of nowhere, miles away from any actual culture. 😁 😁 😁

Not a single one. I honestly don't see the point in all this labeling—it's just unnecessary. There are certain bands I love, specific albums, or even just isolated parts of a song... basically, these little categories are just useless.

If you take a closer look at Blizzard Entertainment, you'll realize they're actually top-tier bands. Just give some of them a listen.
