Let’s just shut this whole forum down before everything goes completely to hell...
😁

One more thing, though—it feels like we’re all cruising ten miles over the limit thinking that if a cop pulls us over, they won't see some idiot whose ego is bigger than his brain, but just a guy who wants to drive a little faster.
I guess the whole quality versus quantity thing applies to the police, too. There are way more of them out there now than when people weren't speeding, so every once in a while you might run into someone who just gives you a warning, but other times, someone's gonna bleed you dry until you're practically filing for bankruptcy.
But I suppose that all falls under the category of: hey, we're only human, right?

Honestly, this place is a breeze
but what on earth are we going to do about the traffic situation?
😁
Personally, I’m just banking on the hope that we can weather the storm until this digital generation finally grows up a bit and realizes how idiotic it is to sabotage the very places they actually enjoy spending their time.
Despite all the clones, the trolls, and the completely unrefined crowd, there are still some genuinely decent people in here whose insights and posts would be a damn shame to miss out on.
No matter how you slice it, quality eventually rises to the surface, while the rest will be dealt with either by the moderators or by simple evolution.

Ahem, yes, my fellow nostalgic souls 🙄
While we "ordinary" forum users find ourselves caught in the grip of evolution—surrounded by clones, trolls, the ill-mannered, and moderators who seemingly cheer them all on—nostalgia is truly the only thing left to hold onto...
And yet, I find myself lacking even that one single thing to be nostalgic for.
Ah, how cruel life can be... 🙂

So, election season is right around the corner...
I seriously doubt that total amateur is going to run again...
I mean, if some local nobody steps up as the candidate, I already know their handle on Reddit...

Here are a few more examples I've got...

Look, I really don't want to dive into their business right here. They have their own specific thread for that, and I seriously don't want us getting bogged down in the nitty-gritty details about them just yet. What I’m trying to do is just point out certain things I've already brought up in my previous posts by using these kinds of broad, general topics—the same kind of stuff you see floating around on Reddit all the time.

Case 1
So this guy goes and files a complaint, right? And look, the moderator hasn't actually said a damn thing yet, but the admin has already dropped three separate posts. And guess what? Even after those three posts, absolutely nothing is fixed. There’s no "this is my final word" or anything like that—they just keep making excuses and dragging it out. Above the admin, you've only got the big boss, but even if he stepped in, I'm pretty damn sure nothing would get resolved.😁

This whole mess would be fixed instantly if they just dropped all the charges and cleared the user's name. Whether the mod was actually right or not shouldn't even matter at this point—that’s the real failure of the FBI. From my massive amount of experience, users just can't handle being penalized. Even when someone is 200% in the wrong, they still refuse to back down and just keep dragging it out.
And then when they finally take it too far and someone starts handing out bans like candy, suddenly they're some kind of degenerate, and all of us "troublemakers" are just lumped together in one big group. Total double standard.😁

Case 2.
What am I even supposed to say about this? Honestly, maybe just hit them with a permanent ban so they can stop terrorizing the forum once and for all.😁

Case 3.
Or this? I’m pretty sure there are already like 101 threads about how this place is going downhill, but whatever, every single one needs its own space to point out that everyone here is a total fraud, a thief, and a straight-up criminal—yet they still show up and keep posting anyway.😁 Look, I think we’re all on the same page here. I’ve been hanging out here for four years, every single day, so you should already know how much it drives me crazy when this site glitches and crashes constantly. It’s an absolute joke. But honestly? That’s just the reality you have to deal with. If you really want to play the rebel and act like you've discovered some huge problem, do us all a favor and actually use your brain: search the archives first. Go find one of the hundred old threads where people are already complaining about it instead of being that person who opens yet another useless new thread. Just get with the program.

Case 4.
What am I even supposed to say about this? It’s so obvious. All I see is that one user can't stand the other guy, so now he's running to the FBI to cry about "justice" just because he hates the topics the other dude posts. Give me a break.
I don't see anything anywhere about him actually reporting the guy, and then the mods just totally ignored it. Plus, I can't find a single one of those supposedly controversial posts he made. It's all nonsense.
What's the deal with this?🤷 Honestly, I think this whole thing is just hilarious.😁

Just so you don't go around claiming I'm only picking on certain forum users, I've thrown this one into the mix too:
Case 5.
It’s been 50 days and this guy is still sitting around waiting for an answer... it’s like what I told him back then:
Donald Trump said:...

I mean, come on. Surely someone who moved things around will show their face within a month, right?🙄...and actually explain themselves for why they did it. Honestly, when I see this kind of "moderation," it just makes me sick.

Honestly, it makes me sick. On one hand, we’re all out here playing this little game called democracy—acting like the FBI actually gives a damn about rules or banning people for nothing—but then you look at the moderators. You’ve got someone who hasn't even bothered to show their face or explain themselves, even fifty days after some major intervention. It's pathetic.

* * *

So what’s the bottom line here? How are you guys even looking at the FBI?😁 Look, the easiest thing to say is just scrap it, right? But would shutting it down actually solve anything? Do you honestly think people would stop whining?
On the contrary, if you shut down the FBI, the whole circus just moves over to the main subforums. Shutting it down is pointless—even if it just acts as a dumping ground for complaints, it's better than having nothing at all...
I do agree that it's not the right way forward, though. The real path is reform. But we need a reform that includes "reforming" the users themselves. There's no point in filing appeals against the green branch if we aren't willing to accept that there's someone above us who can just look at a complaint and go, "this appeal is nonsense, denied" and we just have to deal with it. If we can't handle that, then the FBI really is useless...
We accept this in real life (even when things aren't fair or injustice happens), so why can't we accept it on the forum and actually strive for some kind of ideal?

My vision for a reformed FBI would be a place where a user only comes to complain after they've exhausted every other option with the problematic mod and their buddies on that specific subforum. In that FBI appeal, they lay out their side of the story, provide arguments, whatever... And the thread should be software-locked so only the user (if they have more to add) and the mods/admins can post (sort of like how it's set up on KzB now).
After that, the moderator weighs in on the thread, and then an admin or that aforementioned "moderator council" makes the final call. Whatever the decision is, both the mod and the user have to live with it, the topic gets locked, and we move on to the next victory...

Now, maybe this is all just an illusion or chasing something impossible, I don't know. Not that I'd ever get the chance to find out because I have zero intention of starting my own forum.😁

Anyway, morning.🙂

I think your initiative is solid, but here is my take on how this should actually work:
We need to establish some crystal-clear guidelines for when someone opens a thread in the Complaints section. Those rules ought to be:
First, there must be proof that you actually tried to settle things with the moderators first, that the complaint itself is objective, that you have evidence ready to back it up, and that you aren't just looking for trouble.
The second rule is that a moderator is required to clearly respond to the inquiry (unlike my own three experiences:
1. where it’s impossible to tell which moderator is even handling it,
2. where the moderator simply never shows up,
3. where an administrator steps in to fix the issue but fails to notify me whether anything was actually done or not,
4. or where a moderator pops in, replies to the thread three different times, yet still manages to ignore my specific question entirely🙄).
Providing a clear response means they should justify their decision based on the forum's official rulebook.
Essentially, "I gave you a strike for this, but I didn't give him one because... blah, blah, blah."

If we had those standards, we could actually call this PDF process serious; right now, it feels like a chaotic joke where only the most obvious, mindless issues ever get handled.

P.S.
One more thing—I really believe that before anyone gets handed a strike, we should implement a mandatory warning system (either public or via private message). We shouldn't just go straight for the sledgehammer. For instance, it’s ridiculous when trolling and off-topic chatter are tolerated in a thread for months, only for a moderator to suddenly swoop in one day and start handing out five strikes to every single participant at once.

Andrew Sanchez572 and boldhound8, check out this complaint; it pretty much backs up what one of us three was saying.
The guy revived a thread from six years ago just because he couldn't find anything more recent (let's be real, this internet generation hasn't fully mastered the art of searching content, and even our site's search isn't exactly user-friendly when you're looking for the latest stuff).
And he didn't just drop a couple of emojis and call it a day; he actually wrote a massive wall of text.
But then some moderator swoops in, tells him there's a newer thread, hits him with a strike, and shuts down the old one.

So, I have a few questions here:
- Doesn't a mod have the ability to just move posts from one thread to another?
- Couldn't this have been handled without handing out a strike?
- Isn't this going to spark some kind of revolt against the mod who punished him, which eventually just leads straight to a permanent ban?
- How many strikes like this go unnoticed because people don't bother filing an appeal with the FBI, and how can we ever detect this kind of friction as the root cause of later issues?
- Shouldn't the Admin step in during these situations to warn the mod they're being too heavy-handed, clear the strike, and merge the threads? And if it’s not too much trouble, maybe the mod could just head over to the FBI section and say, "My bad, I went a little overboard."

It’s becoming increasingly obvious from one post to the next that this entire PDF is nothing more than a calculated piece of manipulation.

Four separate threads regarding the Son situation were shut down without any explanation whatsoever, leaving all our arguments and counterarguments completely ignored.
So, I’m currently lurking through Reddit, and I noticed people are calling PETA members idiots quite freely. To make matters worse, the moderator seems perfectly fine with it, apparently deciding that such remarks don't count as "insulting the community." When I decided to step in and point out the obvious—that several of our own members almost certainly belong to PETA—she simply brushed me off by complaining about my attitude toward her authority.

And here we find ourselves trapped in a vicious cycle, caught in a loop of pure, unadulterated donkey logic.

It appears that even Baron Samedi is having a bit of a struggle with that PDF file. 🥳

It's hard to make a blanket statement🤷 the way you laid it out, but maybe the mod just went a bit overboard. If someone actually put in the effort to hunt down a topic, they shouldn't be getting slapped with a strike instead of just being told to post in the new one.🙂

Some things look harsh from a neutral perspective, but honestly, they're way too light (when you see how certain people actually behave). For example, on my part of the internet, I mass-ban all those duplicate threads. Listen, man, I've tried everything—warning people, giving reminders, begging them, pleading, sending notifications, making it clear—but nothing works. Until you hand out 10 strikes and delete 10 threads, there's no order...

Right here I summarize the threads that constantly, incessantly repeat themselves. And I regularly update it.

But despite all that, every single day, seriously, every day a new thread pops up. Here's the proof.
Today/yesterday:
1
2
3

Sept 20th and 22nd
4
5
6
7
8

That's a snapshot of 8 threads still visible + 5 that aren't anymore...That's 13 threads about the same thing in the span of Sept 20th - 24th.🙄 And half of them didn't even get strikes because I don't care about punishing users, I care about creating order...
But clearly, on this site, it only matters if some demon from hell descends.

And look, without my detailed breakdown, people might think some mod is just acting tough and punishing everyone left and right, but after seeing my explanation and links, the perception changes. You should see the posts where I am literally begging people not to turn this into a circus...

I agree with you that there has to be a different set of principles applied here somewhere.
Comparing the internet to a chess discussion isn't even apples to apples. Online, you need a different rulebook because every user who joins a forum usually has some specific internet issue they’re trying to troubleshoot by starting a new thread.
But a guy talking about chess tactics and gets a strike?
Give me a break...
By my standards, this strike is totally unjustified.
End of story!

I remember being on this computer forum once (PCExp, you probably know them) and posting a HijackThis log in a new thread. Get this, boldhound8, it was my very first post there. They actually had a dedicated thread for AT&T logs with a warning posted right there. Then a mod showed up, merged my post into the right thread, sent me an automated DM—no warnings, no threats, no strikes. He just politely introduced me to the procedure, asked me to follow it next time, and thanked me for contributing.
Honestly, I felt honored.
Don't take this as me pointing fingers at you, but let's be real. The forum isn't running right. This thread has been loading for years, the gap between searches is supposed to be 60 seconds, and then the server tells you that you have to wait another 78 seconds????
So you finally get to post on a site like this, and at first, you're just standing there wondering what the hell happened—as they say in the South, you're just baffled. Once you get past the confusion and the anger, you find the right thread, type out a massive wall of text, sometimes twice because you're never quite sure if you're going to hit an Error 505 (which sounds like a little nursery rhyme to me: I want to post, error 505, I want to search, error 505, I want coffee, error 505 🙂), and you're actually happy when you see your text appear, only for a mod to swoop in, slap you with a strike, and go: "sorry, my bad..."
The whole thing is just ridiculous to me.

Look, guys, before you click "submit" on Reddit after typing everything out, always copy your text. You never know when you'll be forced to write the damn thing all over again.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.

And the guy was just talking about chess, for crying out loud. No matter how much you argue, it doesn't change the fact that he got a strike for absolutely no reason. It's like how police officers have those forms for excessive use of force.
There has to be a mechanism to regulate the use of force, because you never know when it's going to be used or when it shouldn't be. And it all comes down to one thing: we're humans. When we have power and authority in our hands, we need to be damn decent people and know how to use it honestly.
Saying that all mods know this is, at the very least, dishonest.
Admitting that it's true is a huge step.
But only people who realize that power isn't a given right, but rather a responsibility, can admit that.
And some people are just never going to get that.

P.S.
Go ahead, exercise that power...

Is this constant whining ever going to end?

What if someone says meat-eaters are heartless killers?
And it's a safe bet there are meat-eaters on this forum, right?

Do you actually distinguish between a personal insult ("you are an idiot") and expressing an opinion ("members of PETA and ALF are idiots because they caused a van explosion that could have killed innocent people")?

Can you see any difference between those two concepts?

Personally, I think people who do LSD are unstable junkies. That’s just my general opinion on those types of people, not a direct insult to anyone specifically.

Look, that quote is inaccurate, insulting, and frankly condescending, but I won't go on a rant because you clearly have a double standard in this document—one that's even more obvious in much worse examples elsewhere—so 👋
since you didn't bother to write anything when you actually had the chance, I don't see why you're suddenly being so stingy now.
Just because someone insulted meat-eaters doesn't give anyone a free pass to insult the honest, ethical members of PETA, who make up a significant portion of the group.

As for your tendency to hold prejudices against people, that's your own issue to deal with, provided you don't let it bleed into your moderation duties.

Thanks

How can you claim this is inaccurate when I literally provided the link to the article where ALF takes full responsibility for torching the van?
I’m saying the exact same thing here as I did back on that thread. Here is the proof.

Go ahead, point out any double standards in the World regarding us since I started making an impact.

"Just because someone insulted carnivores doesn't mean it justifies insulting the honest, ethical members of PETA, and there are plenty of them."

Read my post about insults again... and this time, try actually understanding it.

Nah, it’s actually the exact opposite lately. I’ve got less and less energy for this, and honestly, even less patience for people. The newbies act like they own the damn place—I don't even know how else to put it—instead of actually taking a second to read the rules when they first show up. And the old-timers? They just refuse to learn anything. Breaking the rules is clearly way more fun and easier for them than actually following them. Of course, there are exceptions in both groups, but man, most of them are just exhausting.

Even if the Prime Minister doesn't have that specific post to back him up, it’s crystal clear that getting those people banned was totally justified. Honestly? It was more than justified.

Oh, so I’m "good" just because I’m not posting on your pathetic little corner of the internet? Please. If I actually started hanging out on your board and you had to drop a few bans on me just to keep up, then suddenly I’d be the bad guy. Give me a break.😁 I’m telling you, it’s all just a matter of perception.🙂

Look, I know some people here think I’m living in a dream world, but let's get real. I'm not even trying to make excuses for us, but damn, we’re dealing with five times the headache they are. When their site hits peak traffic, maybe 400 people are online at once. Here? We’ve got 3,000 to 4,000 users hitting it all at once. They barely have 4,000 total members, while we’re sitting here with over 100,000. It's not even a fair fight.
You know what I’m trying to say here? Seriously, just look at that nightmare of a dream you had—thinking you're looking at 13 threads that need deleting in just five days. Now, stop and actually do the math. Think about how many individual posts have to be nuked, how many warnings have been handed out, all those random emails, and all this other garbage we deal with... it adds up to way more than that.

Look, cousin, whatever you want to say, all I'm saying is there's just no comparison here.😉

This is regarding the strike, maybe even something more serious...

I'm with you on this.
Can you even imagine? Even us moderators sometimes feel awkward because we don't have a boss looking over our shoulders.
I mean, on paper, we do, but in reality, it often feels like the moderators are the highest authority. To me, that feels stupid sometimes. Because when a user files a complaint and I shut it down with solid arguments, I actually need someone above me to look at the situation and back me up—to confirm it because they believe in the logic, not just because I'm some "big shot"
It's the same thing when I screw up. I need that higher-up to discipline me. When I mess up, I *want* to be punished, because I don't want it to look like I'm the "bad guy" who can just do whatever the hell I want. We're humans! Someone pushes my buttons, I say something stupid, I get a strike—it's insane.🙂

That's why I keep saying the FBI needs a total overhaul, and I think better oversight would come from that reform...

Look, I find it pathetic whenever anyone calls carnivores names or insults any group of people. That is just moronic behavior.
And frankly, I feel slighted by moderators who fail to warn users about such language, and instead choose to justify or even encourage it.
Furthermore, ALF and PETA are two entirely separate organizations. You noted that distinction over there, but you haven't repeated it here.

I have no idea how your moderation style works, mostly because I tend to avoid Reddit; I’m always half-afraid I'll get a strike just because someone else decided to insult me.

Anyway, we are drifting off-topic now, whereas we could have settled this in the threads specifically designated for it.
I didn't notice you complaining about those threads being closed.
I'd much rather hear your thoughts on that.

boldhound8, I never said you were doing a good job; I simply meant it would be a nice gesture if you warned users before jumping straight to a strike. If that isn't your policy, then 🤷

Here is something fresh:
Sting moved my favorite chat topic from the Car section over to Off-Topic. We were pretty annoyed because he left the other chat topic alone while trying to bar us from participating in it. (Of course, all the mods from the Car section were involved, but since Sting is my favorite, I'll just mention him.)
I viewed that as blatant discrimination and segregation, so they eventually moved the other topic to Off-Topic too, which was perfectly fine. 😛
I just wanted to make the point.

Look, I wasn't even trying to defend him. I told you straight up, I have no clue what's actually going on here. But if you're gonna stand there acting like you've got all the facts, then maybe—just maybe—that red card was a bit much.

That's not fair 😉

Not toward me, not toward the right side, and definitely not toward Cats
