Jeremy Phillips54 said:They are. To be more precise, they were just way more prepared, which isn't surprising given they have 14 players who can all step up, and they didn't get absolutely dismantled by those French Armoires.
But honestly, it feels like we just fold whenever there's a trophy on the line. And today? They completely choked under pressure. Anyone who actually follows sports knows what kind of mental block that looks like.
And looking at the facts, weโre just too clunky, too slow, and frankly, not enough. If we had entered those final two minutes down by one and facing a penalty instead of being down by three and facing a penalty, I'm really not sure how that would've played out. And that's even without counting those two goals they wiped off the board. Even if the penalties stayed the sameโand let's not even talk about that infamous foot playโit wouldn't have mattered. Not to mention how they were slicing through the defense while the refs seemed totally blind to their offensive maneuvers.
Itโs strange to me how people fail to see it.๐คท
Look, we managed to score a few points against them in the last ten minutes while playing shorthanded, and that was mostly off passes while they were busy throwing balls at our chests during their offensive possessions. Not once, either, but several times. We had the man advantage. They looked lost; you could see it from the nosebleed seats. Dazed, terrified, a complete psychological shutdown. If we had closed the gap, we arguably had two real chances, but then there were the posts. Their legs were shaking so hard they probably wouldn't have converted if it had been an open layup. Instead, they just rattled.
And when you recall those two fouls on the counter and those heavy penalties for absolute nonsenseโI'll spare you the profanity.
It was only when they realized they were actually about to lose that they pulled themselves together in the final two minutes.
That's why they didn't deserve the gold. But hey, they took it anyway.
