Since this guy decided to give it a shot, maybe I'd suggest he tries speed if he won't touch weed. Honestly, if anything, speed in the States is such garbage that maybe he'll realize that too and just quit wasting his money and stick to drinking instead 🙏 🙏 😬

Come on, quit being so dismissive.😬
The police officer who arrested my son behind the high school—over a joint that barely even had traces of marijuana in it—was wearing clothes worth more than all the furniture in my house.🙄
Do I really need to say more? Or do you need me to draw you a picture?😬

I just wanted to say that you guys are really coming down hard on this kid. You're basically tearing him apart just because he mentioned wanting to try something, and he specifically said speed or cocaine. I mean, imagine if he had just said he wanted to experience a "trip" and everyone here started losing their minds about drugs 😬 instead of actually giving him some practical advice. Like, telling him he should be with someone sober, or suggesting he just tries a tiny fraction of a dose since it's his first time, or just keeping things positive... maybe give him tips so he doesn't end up totally out of it and wandering into traffic thinking a puddle is a swimming pool 😬

And honestly, you'll eventually get him back, but just watch where he hangs out. Maybe run a drug test every couple of months—specifically for the pills, speed, and those heavy substances. Forget marijuana; that's what usually pulls kids and their friends into the lifestyle. Eventually, they'll either grow out of the jokes or find something else to occupy their time once they're out in the world 👍

The highway will be used by 🤣 I forgot to type it in.

To be clear, I’m not talking about testing drugs as such.
I mean moderate, sensible usage.

Drugs aren't inherently bad; it's the person who overdoes it that's the problem.
It all comes down to moderation... and being educated on the subject.

Personally, I think underage drinking in high schools—which we treat as legal and "acceptable"—along with the obsession with trashy pop music and general artistic pretentiousness, poses a much bigger threat than a joint or heaven forbid some ecstasy.

"Drugs aren't bad"? "Drug use can be boiled down to reasonable, moderate consumption"?
Look, I honestly don't get it. If that were true, it should be easy for anyone to stay moderate, yet somehow nobody ever manages to do it.

Who's deciding that? Is everyone who's ever been near drugs automatically labeled an addict? I guess people are living in a total fantasy land...

Not everyone, sure, but unfortunately it's the vast majority. Especially when we're talking about a 17-year-old. Based on how they phrased this post, it's pretty obvious how "bright" they are—it's highly unlikely someone like that would stop after just one hit of speed.

It works for me 🙂

Not for everyone, though. Certainly not for you.

Laura Mendoza said:Don't come at me with talk about comparisons or being conservative, because I am definitely not a dinosaur. However, anyone who genuinely believes they’ll "just try it once" or "just take it one time" is an absolute idiot. Honestly, how many people do you personally know who claimed they were just experimenting, only to get hooked? And let’s be clear: I’m not talking about weed or anything relatively mild. If a kid is already entertaining these kinds of ideas and cravings at seventeen because he’s already cycled through everything, what on earth is going to happen to him in a few years?

Great, let's get this show on the road! $83Just making sure I don't head in the wrong direction.
And what if I just sent interceptors his way? Honestly, looking at the specifics, I once dealt with a massive wreck because some idiot was flying through a curve at a hundred miles per hour. Of course, he drifted right into my lane and totaled my car—I wasn't even at fault. People like that need a serious reality check, not some polite little advice session.

Honestly, I know plenty of people who messed around with lighter stuff in high school and never became addicts.

Look, let’s be real... I think it’s honestly twisted to have someone giving advice to a seventeen-year-old about what they should be using. Telling them that the drug itself isn't the problem—that it's just the people using it, or claiming everything is fine as long as it's "moderate"—is just pure nonsense.
I'm not denying that there are certain individuals who manage to pull it off, and sure, maybe for them it works. But on a broader scale, defending this stuff or coaching kids on how to use it is wrong. Instead of handing out tips, we should be showing them that there are a million better ways to experience life than turning to drugs.👎

I’m convinced that’s true. Just as much as... I don't know... bungee jumping or skydiving. You could kill yourself, sure, but the rush is incredible—and if you take basic safety precautions, you'll be perfectly fine.
I'm not saying there aren't individuals who manage to pull it off—fine, let them—but globally speaking, defending this or trying to advise someone about it is a mistake. Instead of doing that, we should be showing them the million other better things they can try in this world besides drugs...👎

The problem is getting stuck and becoming an addict. Experimentation can lead to dependency, but it'll hit an uninformed person long before it touches someone who actually does their homework first.

Oh, please...👎

I'm heading to bed. I have an exam tomorrow, and honestly, it’s better than sitting here obsessing over this nonsense just to end up looking like a total amateur and dealing with all those headaches myself.

But why are you so afraid of being seen as a fool if that's actually who you are?

What's really so bad about being a fool? 😕 😕 😕

It isn't about fear; it's simply a fact that I am not one! Although, regarding these topics, I could easily fall into that category. Everything feels so chaotic "today" that it seems like I'm stuck living in the past, back when things actually made sense—and I'm only 20, for heaven's sake.

See? That proves it right there.

I don't really know what you mean by those "normal" times, especially if you're from a place like San Diego. I feel like your generation was actually way worse—even at 15, let alone 17. Things seem a little more settled in San Diego nowadays; a lot of people got caught by the police, some learned their lesson, and others just quit because the drugs got too bad or the prices shot up. I guess if someone was going to get stuck in that lifestyle, they would have anyway.😉

When I mentioned those "normal" times, I wasn't referring to drugs; I was actually talking about my own (lack of) conservatism. But fine, if you want to take it that way, be my guest.

Look, you're fine, but you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about. It wasn't like this back in the day—man, if I could just remember that one time during the Super Bowl...

I have read the first two and last two pages of this thread.

The author exhibits a certain contradiction in their behavior: they intend to try, having invested the time required to compose this post, yet, once online, they did not—at least from my perspective—independently seek out the answers to their own questions, which are already available.

Thus, they are not diving into the entire endeavor without thought, yet they stall at a specific step.
My assessment is that you have not fully committed yourself, regardless of what you have written... and I suspect you may actually fear what you might discover within a scientific study, which is why you turned to this forum for answers, or rather, for advice.

Do not be biased—if you truly intend to proceed, then find all the information possible, compare the findings, and form your own conclusion.
Be critical and objective, just as you would be regarding any subject in which you possess no prior knowledge.

If you are not prepared to invest the necessary time and effort, then please refrain from experimenting... not because I disagree with the reasons provided here, but because you seem unwilling to face all the potential consequences of your actions.

Yeah, things seem a bit more balanced these days.

My generation—the class of '82 and those following—was definitely the worst of the lot.
The last of the true pioneers. 🤣

I don't know why, but I feel like I've managed to soften your hardcore stances just a little... because prejudice is honestly the worst thing you can carry. Especially when it’s preserved in a jar like some kind of relic. 🙂

@nimblemarlin80
Hitting 150 on the interstate isn't unsafe per se. 🙂 It all depends on the road conditions, doesn't it? 🙂
