Riječanka2 said:My husband actually set up my AC unit—he’s the husband of one of my patients, by the way. We’ve known them as a couple since long before they ever walked into my clinic.
I paid him full price in cash, just like any other customer: $500.
Mind you, he came over the very next day after I bought the unit, just like we had planned. I actually made sure to ask him which day he was free before I even pulled the trigger on the purchase. 😬
So, does that make me a dirty, corrupt, evil vampire doctor, Lastane? 😍
Should I go bite some veins or is just sprinkling ash over myself enough... because honestly, what an absolute disaster I am. 😈

🙂 ...you should probably just let it go. It's not like I'm out here attacking every doctor or trying to paint everyone with the same brush... not at all... especially not you, since you're the resident plastic surgeon whose posts I actually enjoy reading.
So no, you aren't dirty, corrupt, or some kind of vampire, but if you're working for the government or doing on-call shifts, you've got exactly what I described plus whatever ego comes with it.
Look, I don't have a problem with it personally... quite the opposite, really... I'm just pointing out that, on average, these salaries are easily the highest in the public sector. And again, I'm not judging, but if people in America start whining about how underpaid public sector doctors are, it's just going to look ridiculous given how the rest of the public sector is doing. 🙂

Thanks to everyone who jumped into this debate and weighed in on the poll questions. I’m officially calling it—let's lock this thread down and move on.
Honestly, I’ve got nothing left to say on this one anyway; we've chased this rabbit down every hole possible and there's just nothing left to dig up.

Taroth said:What bugs me about doctors—and I know they aren't all like this—is how they view themselves compared to everyone else. They realize people eventually have to come to them for something, so they start acting superior, much like the guy who left earlier.
They seem to forget that the government paid for their medical school education.

I go to my lawyer and the clerk at the DMV for things too. And yeah, they can be rude. But nobody blames them because it’s not about "health," which we all apparently care about sooooo much...

Humanity shouldn't be exclusive to doctors. But when people talk about being compassionate, they're always the first ones to claim the title.
