"I don't give a damn what you're waiting for. I'm a doctor to you folks, not some pervert," the physician snapped. And when he was asked about his medical credentials? He grabbed his crotch and said, "Right here."

The whole thing went down Tuesday around 3 PM at the Mayo Clinic. According to news reports, gynecologist Dr. Petar Jukić told a packed waiting room that he couldn't care less how long patients have to wait.

One patient there, Ivančica Devčić, told reporters that after waiting forever to see Dr. Josip žmiriti, she noticed Dr. Petar Jukić popping in and out of the office repeatedly. "I jokingly said, 'Hey, mister, going back in again with more paperwork? We're still waiting over here...'" she recalled.

"I don't give a damn what you're waiting for. I'm a doctor to you folks, not some pervert," Dr. Petar Jukić shot back. The women watching the scene were absolutely stunned. Even Ivančica Devčić's husband stepped in, asking the doctor where his professionalism went and if he even had any accreditation.

When that question was thrown at him, witnesses say the doctor reached down toward his groin and replied, "Here it is."

The patient tried to report the behavior to the clinic director, but he refused to see her because she didn't have an appointment. She ended up filing a complaint with the Department of Health and Human Services, which apparently already has a file of complaints against Dr. Petar Jukić.

Dr. Petar Jukić isn't denying the incident happened, but he isn't apologizing either. He claims he was just stepping into a colleague's office to grab patient results—strictly business—and denies grabbing himself. "It's true I said those things. Why should she care how many times I walk in and out? I was provoked. We aren't buddies; she shouldn't be calling me a pervert. Why mess with me? Calling a 55-year-old man a pervert!" Dr. Petar Jukić told reporters.

Why do doctors think they're God's gift to us? Just because they deal with low pay and tough shifts doesn't mean they can stop treating us like actual human beings.

Exactly. He's probably just one of those types who assumes, from the jump, that a woman can't possibly be more educated than he is. Personally, I think she did the right thing by filing that report.
I'm trying to wrap my head around just HOW much someone would have to push my buttons to trigger a reaction like that—honestly, I can't even imagine what could have caused it...

The classic American doctor complex—that "I was born by divine decree while you're just a lowly worm" attitude...

I honestly can’t wrap my head around why we’re back to debating the entire medical profession again. We have one specific doctor, mentioned here by name, who acted with nothing more than pure rudeness and a complete lack of class. I fail to see how his individual behavior serves as any kind of indictment of doctors as a whole or the sanctity of the medical field 😛 My former boss used to spend half his day swearing and shouting at everyone, yet I certainly wouldn't go so far as to claim that electrical engineers are a bunch of uneducated thugs 😉

And in just one single post, they go and lump all doctors together like some kind of monolith...

No, I’m not counting your post. In the opening thread, the author was actually questioning why doctors seem to carry themselves as if they were divinely inspired, and boldeagle3 seems to think this kind of ego is just a standard flaw among American doctors.

If you ask me, the only real takeaway from this news story is that Dr. P. J. is simply an unpleasant individual; his medical skills aren't the issue, as he remains a top-tier expert in his field.

I truly believe the stress and the sheer workload are causing him to unravel, and when an irritable person hits their limit, they react exactly like that. I see people snapping like this at my job almost every single day.

Nothing justifies a reaction like that, though I suspect it was more of a momentary lapse in composure than actual arrogance. He told the patient she should address him as "Doctor" rather than calling him "buddy," so one could argue he felt insulted by her tone—it wasn't particularly polite of her to be so casual, even if she was clearly just joking around. That said, I’m not trying to defend Petar Jukić; his behavior was primitive and completely unacceptable.

but it's definitely not true for every doctor out there...

The last one who left me waiting for more than fifteen minutes, even though I had a scheduled appointment, is someone I'll never forget...

I kept my cool, but I told the receptionist that I was heading straight back to work since my appointment wasn't being honored, and that they could just mail me a bill for my lost time...

Don't be silly (I knew they wouldn't actually pay up, but it's the principle of the thing), I put together a formal invoice for the hour and a half I wasted—based on my actual hourly wage—and sent it right to his office and the American Academy of Family Physicians, since they log every complaint and everything is available online for patients to review...

I ended up getting an apology letter from him later and all that, but I never stepped foot in that office again... it's not like we're tending sheep together where he can just see me whenever he feels like it... 😁

If I'm polite enough to respect their schedule and show up on time, I really expect them to respect mine too...
