The only thing that actually works is applying a thick, heavy layer of standard blue Johnson & Johnson cream before bed. Generally speaking, any actual moisturizer performs significantly better than those cheap lipsticks like Chapstick, which honestly just cause a total disaster; after two or three days of using them on perfectly healthy lips, they end up dry and cracked. I simply cannot fathom why this happens.
I feel exactly the same way... the more I rely on Chapstick, the more my lips crack and peel.👎 I have tried every single brand out there..
For me, calendula cream is the only thing that offers relief.😁

Just stay hydrated and you'll be fine.
You're likely just dehydrated. Drinking a few liters of water a day is the best fix, honestly... works for this issue and most others too.

Does anyone know of an effective remedy?
Ugh, I was going through the exact same thing recently, and my lips were actually bleeding. 🙄 I just applied some balm I picked up at CVS for a week and it cleared up pretty fast. 😁

skrozza said:I know this sounds bizarre, but if your lips are absolutely, painfully cracked—like, beyond repair—the best thing I've ever found is lard. Just smear a thin layer on before you go to bed, and by morning, they feel brand new. It feels gross at first, sure. But it works perfectly. Besides, everyone has some in their kitchen. What's the harm in trying it?

You certainly won't go wrong even if you decide to give that steel grease a shot. There isn't a single issue that wouldn't be resolved by using it. Honestly, you have absolutely nothing to lose.

It’s a bit of a "ghost" product; they’re notoriously hard to track down. Last year, I managed to snag some at a pharmacy over on Broadway. I’ve switched to something else since then, so I haven't gone hunting for it lately. Your best bet is probably to ask the same place where you picked up that hand cream.

I picked it up today at that little herbal apothecary over in the Capitol Center. It’s right by the first entrance you hit when you're walking down Tkalčić from the Square.

Honestly, Neven's salve is my absolute lifesaver every single winter... I feel like using all those different lip balms like ChapStick or Burt's Bees just makes everything worse.
Vaseline is alright too... but I just can't stand the smell.

You can pick up that Neutrogena lip balm at Target... they’ve got different versions depending on how much SPF you want. Personally, I swear by it! (I always go with the SPF 15—supposedly it helps prevent cold sores, and honestly, I haven't had one in years.)

e. arden 8 hour cream
It’s pricey, I guess, but you could probably leave it to your grandkids in your will😁

I honestly think the ChapStick is pretty solid. I ended up picking some up back when I was dealing with a cold sore outbreak, mostly because my lips were constantly cracking and peeling like crazy during that time. It actually did the trick for me, I guess.

Is there actually an effective remedy?
It’s a proven method, though it’s a bit awkward. It stings for a second, but it works 100%.
Lemon. Just plain old lemon juice. Rub some onto your lips.
It costs next to nothing and it gets the job done. You just need some patience, because it burns for about the first 20 seconds.
There you go.

Seriously? 🙂
It’s like I’m shouting into a void here—absolutely nobody has followed up after my advice.
Has anyone actually given my recipe a shot yet?
Did you guys even have the guts to try it?

The lemon thing? It doesn't last long at all...
Winter's finally hitting us pretty hard now, so my lips have started cracking up big time...

I’ve honestly never dealt with chapped lips before—I mean, I’ve spent my whole life hauling around all sorts of ChapStick anyway—but this winter? This dryness is absolutely unreal. I wake up in the morning and the corners of my mouth are so parched it's infuriating; I can't even move my face without them cracking instantly. I used to swear by Chapstick medicated, but they've completely dried up the supply. Lately, I’ve just been slathering on Garnier lipstick and using some herbal salve I picked up from a local apothecary. Anyway, long story short...
Regarding those homemade balms (like lard and whatnot)—someone mentioned to me the other day that people claim earwax works wonders for fixing skin issues (though, frankly, I suspect those cracked lip corners might be something else entirely, but who knows). Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole, but if anyone out there actually has the stomach for it... feel free to give it a shot and let me know if it actually works! 😁

It’s true that earwax works for those specific sores. When the corners of your mouth sting like that, those are "cracks," not true chapped lips. True chapping is when the skin itself splits and burns.
You probably picked up those corner irritations from somewhere; I've heard people talk about having the same issue.
So, essentially, earwax is effective for those corner sores, while lemon juice works for actual chapped lips.
Give it a shot; you won't die.
😉 Anything for beauty and health.
