There's an old saying about taste being subjective, and honestly, that’s usually the bedrock of any decent culture or upbringing.
Nah, it isn't. It's just the foundation for a hollow existence, a way to kill time with those mindless, small-town conversations that serve as nothing more than a delusional shield for stagnant minds, letting people wallow in ignorance while they wrap themselves in a layer of pathetic complacency... It’s just a lazy excuse for people who have stopped growing and are actually regressing... I can’t say the evening was particularly beautiful, but it was definitely the perfect vibe to sit down and watch Amelia after everyone kept raving about it. I don't know—maybe it's just me—but this is one of those rare films that actually managed to touch something deep inside me, something most movies just can't reach. Though, honestly, maybe it's just my specific brand of weirdness. A few years back, back when late-night movie marathons were a staple on American cable TV, they used to air stuff that actually hit home for me (think things like *Chasing Amy* or *There's No Fish Food in Heaven*). I'm not talking about those massive blockbusters that sweep up 167 Oscars through flashy directing or over-the-top scripts; I mean those movies where the director's vision, the choice of locations, and those quirky, eccentric shots just resonate with someone like me—and probably some of you too.
To respond to the post by Edward Robinson6 asking, "Did the movie Amelia make you a better person?"—my answer is a short "no." However, if you're asking if watching it made me realize things in a completely different way? Then yes.
For those two hours, I was totally relaxed, just chilling out with a cherry soda and swaying in my chair. It was absolutely worth the watch, even though plenty of people have claimed this movie was engineered just to be a crowd-pleaser. Of course, no film is truly made to please just one individual, nor is any film designed to satisfy the entire masses; there's always a spectrum. But honestly, going into a movie already convinced it's going to be bad doesn't create any tension or desire to watch—it just kills the mood. Some of you will definitely relate to that.
If I started listing every single part of the movie I loved... we'd be here all night. But let's talk about how they introduced each character—how he loves this, she loves the sound of a glass hitting a table, the cat loves listening to stories, and so on. It was hilarious, and I found bits of myself in so many of those quirks. Like that part where someone unplugs the antenna right in the middle of the big game... 🙂 And then there's the mystery of the "guy who can't handle the aging process," that repairman, which caught my interest—not to mention Amelia and her mysterious collector of discarded photos (and the collector of fingerprints 🙂)...
Anyway, to keep it brief, this is one of the best films I've seen lately, purely because of the specific moods and feelings that bubbled up at certain moments. Amelia is such a charming girl—she feels like the embodiment of life's beauty, inner peace, and genuine happiness. At least, that's how it felt to me.
For me, this movie was a total knockout. 🙂
P.S. Dante... I don't know why, but I also have this habit of grabbing screenshots from movies I watch. There were plenty of great ones here. I don't know what it is, but that moment where Amelia finds out that Gina and the "man with the plastic bag" 🙂 left together—that look in her eyes... there was this strange, beautiful glow. It felt incredibly real.

Look, it's the same thing I said last year... my take on this movie hasn't shifted one bit. Honestly? I don't have a single complaint. The soundtrack, the color palette, that whole whimsical vibe—that’s always been my weakness, and Amelie absolutely nailed it.
Besides, it hits really close to home for me, kind of reminds me of that one Australian film I'm obsessed with...

I didn't quite have the energy to dive into this entire thread... but...
...Amélie was honestly one of my biggest letdowns last year (I watched it on DVD)
The movie is sweet, a total visual sugar rush where everything is lovely and just a little bit quirky, and the lead actress is even cuter and just a tiny bit eccentric... but is that REALLY IT??? (that's what I found myself asking once the credits rolled)...
It stands in such stark contrast to someone who claimed they didn't expect much but ended up with a masterpiece... I was expecting a GREAT film, yet I ended up watching shallow, sugary nonsense... it's exactly how little Ivica (or perhaps just your average American) imagines a foreign film ought to look...
And it is shallow, shallow, shallow... oh, it's just terribly shallow and superficial...
Even the subplot involving the guy wasn't intriguing at all because I figured out immediately that he obviously services photo booths... I mean, it isn't exactly Amélie, nor is it a film that gives you anything to actually chew on intellectually...
To me, it reminded me of another sugary mess called 'Chocolat'... just as shallow, just as silly, and just as much of an attempt to play on the "Aaaaah, look how sweet and unconventional this is" angle...🙂

Absolutely stunning film! 😉 It’s one of those rare cinematic experiences that stays lodged in your brain for years—honestly, you could spend hours just sitting there, deconstructing it and mulling over every single scene! And don't even get me started on the emotional payoff; it leaves you with such an incredible, warm, feel-good glow. Simply magnificent!

I honestly didn't have any expectations going into this movie; everyone kept telling me how much of a letdown it was, so I figured I’d go see it just to see if I could form an actual opinion for myself. To my surprise, I was absolutely floored by it.
Perhaps it's simply because I was bracing myself for the worst... I can't quite say, but I found it incredibly good.

The lead girl is just such an unconventional, beautiful soul...🙂
I caught it in theaters about two years ago with a friend, and she absolutely hated it—said it was way too freaky for her... but man, it totally blew me away.🙂
