So, apparently nearly 14 percent of the 3,000 people tested here in New York have antibodies for the Coronavirus, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo this Thursday.

These are just preliminary findings from a study where they randomly tested folks out at grocery stores, which Cuomo mentioned during his daily press briefing.

"Basically, it means these people were actually infected and then went on to develop antibodies," he explained.

The Governor suggested that these numbers might imply the mortality rate is actually lower than what everyone’s been assuming, because if you look at the actual infection count based on this, we're talking about 2.7 million people having been hit by it.

"If you take the current death toll, which is sitting at 15,500, that would put the fatality rate at about 0.5 percent," he said, though he was quick to point out that these are all just preliminary estimates. He also threw in a warning that the death count could "be higher" since the current tally doesn't account for anyone who might have passed away from Coronavirus at home.

hehe

So now we’re left wondering—what was even the point of locking down an entire state? There’s gotta be something else going on behind the scenes, right? Just saying, it feels a little too convenient...

Not me! I guess user ivic27 mentioned over on the SportsCenter chat that he wouldn't recommend it for kids.

We were seeing speculation ranging anywhere from 3% up to 60%, weren't we? So what makes this specific 14% any different?

Besides, even if I were to grant that this figure is actually representative, 14% seems rather meager when you consider the sheer chaos unfolding in the hospitals and how fast the sirens are starting to wail. If we face even two more waves like this one, we won't even hit half of that.

This was the first documentary I watched that really shows the reality inside a hospital treating European Covid-19. If you have any empathy at all, it's impossible to stay indifferent...

If this were truly representative, 14% might seem small, but only because pandemic containment measures were in effect. Without them, I wouldn't call this a small number, though I did expect a higher percentage. I suspect similar studies in other countries will show different figures. It will take much more time before we fully grasp all the variables influencing how the virus spreads and its ultimate impact...

I guess any documentary dealing with illness and medical treatment hits that way. You just can't stay indifferent. Personally, whenever I see stuff like that on TV, I just change the channel. I don't really have the stomach to watch people struggle with any kind of sickness.

So, I think I'll pass.

When are the new episodes about the Chicago Bulls dropping on Netflix? Are we looking at tomorrow, or do we have to wait until Saturday?

My first instinct was also to change the channel to avoid witnessing someone else's suffering. I know what I'm about to say might sound incredibly pathetic, but if doctors and medical staff have to endure all of this day in and day out, then perhaps watching it on TV allows me to at least bear witness... to gain some insight into the immense effort, struggle, and risk they face, and in that small way, show them my gratitude.

They’re just coasting through this because their leaders are absolute idiots. They were way too slow to act, and now they've left the entire healthcare system in a total disaster zone.

Look, it's the job they chose. At the end of the day, most hospitals are half-empty, and the people working in the morgue are basically worked to death anyway.

Monday.

I watched up to the 5th. Maybe I'll finish the rest over the weekend. ☕

Aha, alright then. I guess I'll go ahead and ask if I'm running a bit behind here 🤣.

I haven't touched torrents in forever, so I'm totally out of the loop on this one.

He killed them off first with the monologue—then followed up with those remarks. Honestly, maybe it’s better if he doesn't host every single day; when he actually builds up enough material, he can really hit hard.

@ Ken

Does it really bother you that little when it comes to the elderly and the sick? And for what reason—just so the current metrics, or perhaps those in the next two or three years, don't get in the way of your ability to grab a steak every single weekend?

It’s easy enough to hold that perspective when you're in your thirties and in peak health. Or so I suppose.

And when I say "the elderly," I'm not just referring to the eighty-plus crowd, but also people twenty years younger than that, who have relatively good years ahead of them and a health situation that would normally be under control, yet has now become critical.

Not to mention the trauma being dealt to healthcare workers, who, quite frankly, are being paid next to nothing for the work they're doing right now.

Why such a desperate scramble for life in any shape or form? Look, I respect it—I’m certainly not judging, nor am I against our younger generations suffering if they have to for the sake of those more vulnerable—but I just don't get it.
Personally, I never want to be too tired, too weak, withered, shriveled, hunched over, helpless, or impotent. I don't want to be someone sitting there with a glass of water and a denture by the bedside, dependent on medication and the goodwill of others just to function normally. It honestly makes my skin crawl.
Sixty-five is plenty, maybe even too much. After that, it's straight to the mountains for me 🤷.
