Matthew Grant9 said:I’ve been sitting here wondering for the last two days if I should actually post anything at all... and well, it turns out I really wanted to.
The real issue with LJES, if you ask me, is that way too many threads immediately devolve into just mocking the person who started them. After those first few posts where everyone competes to see who can tear down the OP the most effectively, the whole thing just falls apart; the actual question being asked rarely gets answered because everything turns into trolling and mindless chatter.
Of course, you see this kind of thing on all the online forums out there, but it feels like on LJES, it’s almost the primary goal for the users. Forgive my bluntness—maybe I’m being a bit too harsh—but to me, it feels like a mob mentality where people are just itching to lynch someone. It seems like most folks find it much easier and more entertaining to attack the poster rather than putting in the effort to offer even a tiny bit of helpful advice.

Things have gone a bit too far, and I imagine it’s tough for the moderators to start enforcing strict rules now, especially since this kind of behavior has been tolerated for such a long time. I totally get that LJES is naturally more laid-back than a lot of other American message boards, but what’s happening there isn't just being casual anymore; it’s becoming blatant, inconsiderate insults. There has to be some sense of moderation.

To give you a specific example of what caught my eye recently, there was that thread about "Women who are unhappy housewives." It was basically a seven-page brawl of pure vitriol—done in the ugliest way possible—interrupted only by the occasional decent comment. Everyone was wound up to a hundred percent, the insults were flying thick and fast, and a few people even got banned... but nobody seemed to care that the original topic had absolutely nothing to do with the spirit of LJES. Honestly, you’d think the mods would care about that.
It feels like LJES is slowly transforming into a little corner for anyone who just wants to vent their frustrations on whoever happens to cross their path.

Exactly. It feels more like a designated zone for venting at the "head of state"—meaning the forum users—often in ways that are increasingly harsh or nasty. There used to be actual interesting stuff to read here. Now, it’s just a circus, especially with the chat cluttering up almost every thread. Sure, it's a more laid-back subforum, but I think the lines were crossed a long time ago. There's this loud minority on LJES that dictates whether a thread stays on topic or devolves into a mass pile-on, and the mods aren't doing much to steer them back. I get that the mods can't be online 24/7, but they have to know something has been off on LJES for a while now.

The only real solution here—if we're being honest—is to ruthlessly delete the mindless topics and those incredibly stupid posts. I mean, it would result in significantly fewer posts overall. Which, by extension, means significantly fewer clicks.

Are you actually certain that approach will work? 🙄

Oh, for sure...
The second things get cleaned up or deleted, suddenly the mods turn into total tyrants.
But the moment they actually let things get a little "loose" and unhinged, that’s when you see what this place really turns into—and trust me, it’s not pretty, is it?

I honestly don't get this obsession with deleting posts. 🤷
Is this some kind of blatant censorship happening here or what?

Wait, where exactly? What posts are we even talking about??
And while I’m at it, I’d like to politely ask everyone else to realize that trying to piece together someone's fragmented thoughts is an exhausting mental exercise, so if you're going to start talking, be decent enough to provide the full context instead of leaving us hanging.

Exactly. I think Nicholas laid out his vision for a decent debate perfectly at the start. I couldn't agree more.

It’s not pretty. Not at all. Just look at the situation with Nicholas earlier in the thread.
I side with velvettiger10 on this: the moderators need to be stricter.
Honestly, I feel like this lax attitude on LJES turned me into a spammer myself.🤷
There's another issue, though. When things get this casual, some people get warned while others don't. In my example with Nicholas, the group being quoted definitely deserved a warning. Yet, one person wasn't flagged at all. And it isn't just about spam. We're talking insults and group bullying here. 😢

What I'm seeing is that some people get a pass, while others get flagged for no reason.

Personally, I've tried cutting back on my own spam and off-topic posts lately. But I'm still getting heat for it.
And honestly? I have no one to blame but myself. Like wiredharbor22 said when she quoted my post: "Why can't you control yourself?" It means everyone needs to dial it back. Find some middle ground. 🙂

And as placidmarlin3 pointed out, we're all human. Even the mods. They can't help themselves from jumping into the chat either. Steven Ruiz is basically throwing a party in the banned users' corner. Personally, I'm glad it happened. Because looking at the logs, you can see exactly how much people love to chat.

But there has to be a limit to everything. Including the spam.

I do disagree with placidmarlin3 regarding letting general users post in the banned corner. That would be pure chaos. Especially on a forum this large.

True, but unfortunately, none of that is happening. 😢 Several people have already provided examples. Nicholas King, Matthew Grant9, steelskipper5, placidfalcon4, and even wiredharbor22 mentioned that the atmosphere on LJES is so bad that topics meant for LJES are being kept on the US section instead.

...

A moderator is just another user. Except they have the specific role and power to issue warnings, which regular users don't. That power shouldn't be abused, but it shouldn't be ignored either.

If the behavior patterns actually changed, things might actually improve.

I’m certain there are at least two users from the LJES community mentioned in the initial example. If they actually bothered to scroll up to the PŽK section, they’d see exactly what’s going on. They’d see their own posts, too. Honestly? They should be embarrassed. Personally, I know I have some questionable posts of my own. That’s why I’ve started looking at this forum through a completely different lens lately. It’s also why I sent a PM to the author. And frankly, I’m glad I did.

I think we all need to follow our own conscience. Or better yet, find one.
Both the users and the moderators ought to spend more time in the PŽK. They should actually participate here regularly, instead of just showing up whenever things get entertaining. Which, let’s face it, is how it usually goes.

I’ve argued that every single banned member should still retain access to the KZB.
To be more precise, I was specifically addressing the practice of barring certain users from the KZB entirely.
In my view, every new ban is its own unique situation, and it is the fundamental right of any participant—especially those who have been banned—to present their
side of the story and have the opportunity to file an appeal if they believe the ban was unjustified.

Wait, hold on—did you think you and I were heading over to the banned users' corner to start posting there right now?

My bad! I totally missed that. Sorry. 🙂

so, how about we switch gears and talk about you for a bit, reddriver35? 🤣

All banned users should have access to the corner for the banned, provided their behavior hasn't become such an issue that we have to strip them of even that little bit of access.

What about kika?
After her thread was shut down, she didn't go on to open another 15 different threads. And she didn't resort to attacking anyone's parents.
That is a pretty significant difference, I guess.

If you think it's unfair, then just say it and complain normally instead of doing... this. Plus, I'll say it again: since when is a single post considered a chat?

Daniel Ward87

we've been saying this the whole time!
literally the only single post on KZB that's totally pointless and useless IS THE STRILLE CHAT

Daniel Ward87 said:Then go ahead and stay consistent to the bitter end. Who said we shouldn't be punished? We have been—we've taken the strikes. My issue is just how you all insist we were being intentionally smug or arrogant to justify much harsher penalties 😕. That’s not how it went down from my perspective. We were punished exactly how the moderators of this sub-forum decided we deserved to be...

And honestly, the generalizations being thrown around here are pretty wild...

Daniel Ward87

You all got sanctioned because the users revolted and after AXMi made it clear they had no interest in stepping in to moderate, even if they agreed the behavior was unacceptable. Therefore—please—there is no excuse for what went down.

We're just spinning our wheels here—it’s like we're in one lane and you're stuck in another. 🤣

I'm done with this—honestly—(I feel completely misunderstood 😢 😍)
Kim Kardashian admitted her mistake, while everyone else just keeps acting exactly how they always have.
You aren't community members; you are moderators, and you need to either act like it or start behaving like actual users.
Your job is to uphold the rules of this forum, not to play games with them—that's the whole story. 😉
And that's it—this is just one post of mine. 🤣

This is what I was building on. I tried to explain that there is no equivalence between Kim's behavior and the people who actually deserve to be banned from the ban corner. I really don't want to be accused of saying or thinking things that I simply didn't.

Steven Ruiz said:Like I’ve said before, most of the moderators around here don't have a single strike on their record and they're honestly such model citizens... which really makes them the perfect example for everyone else to follow...
So, I was just wondering... what makes you think the moderators act so arrogant and rude like that...?
I really do try my best to be kind to everyone here and answer any questions that come my way, but let’s be real—if someone comes at me with an attitude or starts being downright rude, they can't exactly expect me to stay sweet... I honestly think most of the moderators feel the exact same way about it too...

You’re actually the perfect example of what I was talking about, so please be honest with me—what was going through your head when you all started chatting? To me, it honestly felt like everyone was just jumping onto the KzB boards to mess around because they knew they could get away with it while nobody else is allowed to... though, sorry, maybe I've got that all wrong... 🤣

I can only speak for myself here, but I really do believe this applies to everyone else too...
I honestly only started chatting because I was bored out of my mind since I couldn't access anything else on the forum. It wasn't some arrogant move to try and prove to everyone how much influence I have or show off my status here... it’s just that I was sitting around with nothing to do, locked out of the main boards, so I figured I'd just come over here and ramble a little bit... My colleagues actually stopped by to say hi, though they were a little shocked to see me acting like such a total goofball. It’s actually kind of a big deal, too... this is officially my first Ban in ten years of being an active member and moderator... 😬 So, there really isn't any talk about anyone being arrogant or acting all high and mighty...

But when regular users do that, their Ban gets extended, doesn't it, Steven Ruiz?

Of course—since her ban was lifted just twelve hours later and she was reinstated to the mod team.🤣

Honestly, people—for God's sake, stop it. Please don't try to justify behavior that we all know was out of line. It happened, it's over, let's just hope it doesn't happen again, and move on.

Come on, let's not troll, it's not cool!
We all know how it works... if some user keeps posting relentlessly on the KZB forums, their Ban just gets longer and longer...

Actually, that isn't quite right at all! Bans usually get longer when someone tries to clone themselves while they're already under a Ban, or when they start sending those weird "love letters" to the moderators—you know, the ones where they bring up inappropriate topics involving the moderator's family or the moderator themselves—or even when they just stubbornly keep opening the exact same thread over and over after it's been closed.

And we definitely haven't done any of those things...

I've actually already tried searching for a link to a case like that, since it wasn't something I was previously aware of.
But I couldn't find any link. 😕

And if they start chatting in the ban corner, the thread gets closed immediately, and the user gets a heads-up that their ban is about to be lengthened. 😉
