Hey, I need some help here.
A few years back, because my periods were all over the place, I went to see a gynecologist. She diagnosed me with a 4 cm cyst on my ovary and put me on Yasmin. The cyst cleared up after the pills, and my cycles stabilized—they were never perfectly on schedule, but they came every month. Then, last October, I was two weeks late and the pain on my right side was so intense I could barely walk. I just assumed it was the ovary.
Once my period finally arrived, I saw a male gynecologist. He told me everything looked fine, suggesting maybe it was a cyst before but he couldn't see anything now. Still, it hurt, especially when he performed the ultrasound. After that, my periods returned to a monthly rhythm, and I knew I was ovulating based on cervical mucus, though again, the timing was never exact.
Then this summer, the same thing happened. I skipped two months entirely. I felt incredibly bloated, and by the time my period actually showed up, I had lost about 10 pounds. Now, it’s happening again this month—that same sharp pain on the lower right. Last year, I even had an abdominal ultrasound because they suspected appendicitis, but everything came back clear. When I went back to the gynecologist, the pain flared up right where he was pressing during the ultrasound, even though he insists it isn't the ovary. Basically, he gave me Duphaston to jumpstart my period. He claims he doesn't see any cysts, but noted one ovary looks slightly more oval and has a "polycystic shape" without being full-blown PCOS (whatever that's supposed to mean). He prescribed Lindynette for six months to stabilize my cycle. I don't deal with weight gain, excess hair, or acne; since starting birth control, I've had a little acne, but nothing major. So, what I'm wondering is: do I actually have polycystic ovaries that he just can't spot on the ultrasound? Or am I just dealing with transient fluid-filled cysts that rupture before bleeding and then vanish?
