I dealt with the exact same headache. I needed something more upscale for a dinner party, but everything I tried was a disaster—either too baggy on the bottom or way too tight up top. In the end, I just threw together a tulle top and a skirt, and honestly? It looked fantastic.
Mind you, I was being pretty picky about my budget; I didn't want to blow more than $100 😬
. If cash isn't an issue for you, go check out Marina Rinaldi—part of the Max Mara group, I believe. I think their prices hover around $500.
I was considering picking up a skirt and a top, but since I’m serving as the maid of honor at this wedding, a dress feels like the more appropriate move. It isn't that money is an issue for me, but I’m already feeling pretty exhausted, and at this point, I just want to be able to zip something up and be done with it. 😁 I'll take a look at that shop you mentioned. Thanks for the tip.

I checked out the options there earlier and only came across one dress that leaned toward being formal. Aside from the fact that it didn't quite hit the level of elegance I was looking for, it was black—and I've heard through the grapevine that wearing black to a wedding is a bit of a faux pas. Since I don't find myself attending weddings very often, I’m not entirely sure how strictly that rule is applied these days. If anyone has a different take on the etiquette or some better insight, I’d appreciate the help. 🙂
I'll take another look at this next week; perhaps I'll have something new to share then. 🙂 You're welcome. 🙂

So, seriously, don't let their stupid looks and comments get to you. If they were actually smart, they'd stock clothes they could sell to living, breathing people—people who aren't a tiny size 0 or 2... Maybe our retailers will finally realize that women come in different shapes, just like shoe stores finally figured out how to stock a size 9 or 10 without making it a whole mission. Before that, finding decent shoes was basically impossible.
A saleswoman at a shop recently made the assumption that my breasts weren't natural. She actually looked me in the eye and said, "Since you clearly had enough money for breast implants, you should be able to afford to have this dress tailored." It wasn't exactly funny at the time. 😁
Well, it’s Xnation again, and this time I’m looking for Marina Rinaldi. I’m heading out on a hunt next week, so if anyone happens to remember anything before then, it would be greatly appreciated. 🙂
